Because all the problems caused by putting cars first will be solved if we just put cars *more* first 🙄

On the main stage at Conservative conference, the shadow transport team is discussing how to “counter” things like 20mph zones and bus lanes. The war on the motorist lives.

‘How many local models do you run?’ I continue to ask, as I slowly shrink and transform into a corncob

An obviously essential bit of app functionality is 'if I select something and then zoom in, make sure the thing I selected remains visible'. Acrobat, Miro and Figma all fail on this score.

And as ever, I will begin to believe in "parity" between technical/vocational education and university degrees when the children of at least some government ministers go down the former route.

What Blair and Badenoch don't seem to understand is that you can't penalise people into better mental health. Why not address the depression and anxiety caused by zero-hours exploitation, shitty housing, and crippling costs of living instead?

I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed. 25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it! Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.

I just think that risking your life at a moment's notice to save people you've never met in exchange for no money is a better expression of patriotism than dressing up like a Poundshop paramilitary and intimidating families with kids trying to get onto a ferry.

We’re reaching a new low in this country when the fantastic heroes of the #RNLI being attacked for their amazing work. Not forgetting the other #Lifeboat services that also keep people safe too. Bill Bryson said it best. Please unfollow me if this is a problem for you.

I think the worst part of Labour's response to the fascist mobilisation is Andy Burnham's absence. He's the most popular politician in the country, with social media reach and actual powers of persuasion, and he's saying nothing in public. He can actually be of use here but he's choosing not to

A Reform government would force schools to sing the National Anthem and if they don't oblige parents will be encouraged to report them to the authorities. Yeah that's not like really scary and authoritarian schoolsweek.co.uk/reform-there...

When I lived in the UK none of my concerns e.g. affordable housing, climate action, increases in welfare spending, scrapping tuition fees, an ethical foreign policy, were ever framed as legitimate concerns. lnstead I was routinely told to fuck off by most political parties for having such concerns.

We know how to build infrastructure that keeps people safe(r) and encourages cycling - we have pages and pages of documents on how to do it properly and why. We just choose not to.

Research undertaken here in the UK (see below) found that unprotected 'paint-only' cycle lanes are actually worse than nothing at all, so their only purpose is for a local authority to be seen to be delivering some cycle provision. road.cc/content/news...

This Times editorial opinion calls for more traffic police on the roads and action to curb social media glorification of joyriding. It does not mention what would be by far the easiest, cheapest and most effective remedy: speed limiters on cars.

I’ve lost track of the number of times an immigrant has told me they had to sit on a prison bus in the back of an airport for six, 10, 20 hours with no food or water and being told to urinate in a corner or onto themselves.

There are other forms of transport that do not tolerate such frequent violence/death. They learn from tragedy and make improvements. Why not motoring?

When an AI company's security tool "escapes containment" and hacks someone else's servers, we need to ask the company "Why do you suck so bad at building secure sandboxes for your hacking tools?" rather than "Why are your hacking tools so amazingly powerful?" 24/

If early release can be altered so as to exempt homicide offences, it should be. Prisoners who have caused the gravest harm should be among the last to benefit from the overcrowding crisis. But carving out exceptions for individual prisoners in response to media campaigns is weak and unprincipled.
