Smartphone cameras mean people can't call Black folk liars when we describe how much racism we receive. The cost of solar panels dropped so much that it's obvious that the US government *chooses* to stay on coal and gas, not that it *can't* get off of coal and gas. China planted 66 billion trees.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

I’ve found that younger folks are a lot more informed, philosophically curious, and alert to reality as a shared experience than my generation was, thanks to the internet.

POV: J.K. Rowling “bending over backwards” to be kind to trans people.

Toby Buckle@polphilpod.bsky.social

every now & then someone on the anti-trans side will get cold feet about how openly ugly it's all getting—they want to keep the image of a nice, sensible centrist but it's never enough for them to get off the train

I like this take because he’s basically copping to the fact we are now wholly dependent on the whims and interests of a tiny fraction of people at time where confidence in jobs and markets they provide is at all time lows.

Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

You’d have my vote, because accurate.

Imagine if I, as a politician, made a statement on 9/11 in which 70% of my statement was describing how American hegemony and the suffering in the middle east was the important takeaway from that event. That's what Mamdani did in his statement recognizing October 7th.

I’ve been erupting in tears lately anytime I watch, read, or think about people doing what’s right in the moment, no matter what, in the face of cruelty or death.

The research doesn’t say trans people are “happy” post transition, but it clearly shows they are happier the sooner they get gender affirming care, which is why anything other than unconditional support of trans youth is abuse.

As I’ve said before, people told me “you can just be a woman if you want to.” What they did not tell me, and what I’ve discovered the past few years of my transition, is that you have to *keep* becoming her

The thing is I don’t thing Ed Sheeran is wrong about being “non political” as essential to his career. He is the definitive NPC, a broadly inconsequential figure whose riches and success largely comes out of comfortably existing in the background and nobody really taking notice of him
