"Murphy" because he was so unlucky at 5(?)weeks old when we found him, abandoned/dumped by a neighbor on his (eventual) forever home's front porch. Beat up by the other cats, a bump/scrape on his head, URI, ear mites and gunk. Got him socialized with my cats. Now he lives the life of Riley.

This is Simon, another orange kitty I found on the street, took him to TNR + vax + chip. He is now in his forever home and has adopted a 13y/o girl who loves him very much.

I feel like a pedant for noticing when books, shows, films, video games, etc. use wildly anachronistic speech or phrasing. "They wouldn't say clap cheeks in 1947!" 😮‍💨 Exception: A Knight's Tale

The pettiest hill that I will die on is that if your cool character in a historical novel is rolling their eyes at social conventions, no they're not, eye-rolling didn't become a widely described gesture in English literature until the *1980s* books.google.com/ngrams/graph...

#MacroMonday with my new love ! This creature is a leaf tailed gecko from #BirminghamWildlifeConservationPark He uses the frilly edges that run right round it's body to suction to glass in this case and leaves/trees in the wild, he was around 8 inches nose to tail! Beautiful! @macrohour.bsky.social

YES! Such a good game - the main issue with it was the hardware and control response. Body Harvest next please.

something i don’t see discussed much is that even if it wasn’t stained with bigotry, harry potter is something you probably should’ve just like… grown out of at some point, rather than integrating it into your adult identity

making games so you can hopefully afford to make more games is literally a different industry from grinding up people so number goes up and it is harmful to pretend otherwise regardless of whether or not we share a platform or a binary format

It's always someone else's idea, quickly and cheaply cloned. I'm sick to my eyeballs of endless AI anomaly hunt games. If AI is enabling something fresh, enabling new concepts and ideas, then I haven't seen it because that tiny spark of creativity is being drowned out by an endless ocean of slop.

The current AAA Publisher practice of disbanding studios, even if they ship a game successfully, is so counterintuitive to their own financial future it boggles my mind.

Play #videogames your entire life and you may understand game development LESS than a stranger off the street. Why? Familiarity breeds a false sense of expertise and ownership over something you love. Trust me, no matter how many you play, you have NO fucking idea how hard they are to make.

You know it. Why would I choose to use a technology which enriches horrible oligarchs. That contributes to wrecking the economy. One which is built off stolen labour, and causes environmental distress and works to destroy folks' cognitive functions.

I only practice vibe coding when others pay for it and say I have to use it at work... but that's not game dev, and > 90% of my work is still manually coded/designed/implemented because I'm actually competent.

yeah I miss Bioware. I also miss Westwood, I miss Origin, I miss LucasArts, I miss Sierra, I miss Looking Glass, I miss SSI, I miss Interplay, I miss Bullfrog, I miss Sensible, just mergers and buyouts and then stripping the fucking copper from the walls and throwing our history in the garbage.

Andrew Wilson specifically called out how successful Battlefield 6 has been. Labor has rarely been able to directly share in the success of video games, and almost never at the largest scale. Now? The people who make these wildly successful games can't even keep their jobs.

as individual services i don't think these are unfair and the larger problem is the difficulty of paying for all of them at once. i think the solution is to just finish reinventing cable: bring back pilot season with free weeks so people can know what they want to watch for the next 4-6 months

Going to give my own takeaway on the demise of Bioware, which still makes me very sad. The TLDR: Bioware was not killed suddenly by a private equity acquisition. It was slowly strangled by idiots who didn't understand what made Bioware great - some at EA but also some inside of Bioware leadership

please stop replying to game devs saying things like "well look on the bright side those laid off devs can start their own indie studios now" because eventually one of us is going to snap and "WITH WHAT FUCKING MONEY" would be a shitty last thing to hear before you die
