Amazing how many times Gordon Rayner of the Telegraph has front-run more critical reporters’ Reform scoops this year. Spoilers-as-a-service.

I argued for years he wasn’t as bad as Bush until 2020, but since then, he’s eclipsed the bush era horrors in a variety of ways at home and abroad I vividly recall standing near the White House in 2020 with a huddle of other reporters shortly after trump had just gassed people and with…

Evan Greer@evangreer.bsky.social

See, this is wrong. George W. Bush is responsible for at least an order of magnitude more suffering in the world than Trump has "accomplished" (at least so far.) White Americans tend to think W wasn't as bad as Trump because his policies mostly led to mass death, torture & worse "over there"

It does give Reform's "enemies" a frame, too: Reform is on the side of the crypto criminals – both Delo and "posh George" – who are paying its bills. Accepting major contributions from one convicted criminal looks unfortunate. Two looks like carelessness.

Peter Whitewood@pwhitewood.bsky.social

It’s not only the absurdity of a billionaire funding a campaign against the ‘establishment’, but Reform increasingly frames politics as a permanent struggle against the enemy.

What I love about Western democracy is you can bung a political party £ 36 million earned from criminal activity & most media will continue to point at asylum seekers & migrant care workers with families as the barbarians at the gate we need to defend ourselves from 🙄.

Wow this is a bad result for Farage. In the most Reform friendly seat in the country should get more than this - and Binface’s result shows once again that the centre and left will vote for literally anyone to try and stop him.

63% of the vote given the circumstances (i.e. no serious challengers) was not a strong performance.

Will Jennings📉🗳️@drjennings.bsky.social

Given that Farage isn't facing candidates from any of the other main parties *and* Reform is polling around ten points higher than its GE2024 vote, a vote share of below 70% for him would arguably be an under-performance.

The pension commission that Germany set up, and whose proposals will be implemented in full, acc to both CDU and SPD, has provided an impressive reform plan. Germany's insurers, savings banks etc. will be FURIOUS.

More good news on EU capital markets coming out of Berlin. If Germany were to add a meaningful capital-market pillar to its pension system, it would do more for the Savings and Investment Union than many of the initiatives currently under discussion. www.ft.com/content/76f3...
