I've been meaning to get around to posting the full details, so what the hell - why not get it out while it's still Vuln Week: Anthropic's mech interp driven security model is built on a fundamentally incorrect assumptions. Let's dive in, starting with this paper: www.anthropic.com/research/nex...

About a year ago, I got really into making glitch art exploring the edge cases & failure modes of machine cognition. This had some unexpected applications. Here’s the result: recursion.wtf/posts/claude... I've shared the relevant logs & artifacts with Anthropic, and the matter is under review.

NEW: DSA's National Political Committee passed two resolutions today aimed at Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman, beginning processes that could result in DSA-LA being forced to rescind its endorsement of her this weekend and/or Raman herself being expelled from DSA by January.

You can’t understate the fact that the New Deal/Great Society economic model produced stagflation. This real failure was used to attack social welfare as a whole by its ideological enemies. In terms of political economy, it should be clear why voters generally prioritize growth over equality.

Something happened in the 70's that crystallized politics (and many other topics) into a new set of assumptions and priors. It gave rise to Reaganism and completely crushed New Deal Socialism; Dems that eventually reemerged were and still are centrists scared of their own shadows.

The “something” in question was the workers themselves deciding by 1966 that they no longer wanted New Dealer welfare capitalism if it meant black Americans would benefit from it while anti-war protesters were free to burn the flag

Three moments broke Trump 2.0: 1) Kimmel and other attempted censorship after Charlie Kirk. Made public see the attack on speech. 2) Minnesota anti-ICE protests, Goode and Pretti killings. Made public see the attack on rights. 3) Iran war. Made public see bad foreign policy affects them directly.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

I do think when historians look back the period the exact moment where it flipped and started going the other way won’t be anything any politician did but my Minneapolis neighbors weathering the worst of the regime in the streets, rallying together, fighting back, and winning

My immediate concern here is that the Trump administration will back this likely effort to attempt a coup, rhetorically if not materially. It would hardly be the first shameful thing the United States has down to our neighbors to the south, but it would be a very shameful thing indeed.

I mean, this is what always makes this conversation so frustrating, people use will "woke" to refer to anything present in society or culture from like 2015 to 2024 and then insist on discussing it like it was an organization or a movement.

intelligence is knowing that if i ever looked up anything about Magyar, Lula, or any of the other election winners i would probably not be great fans of their politics wisdom is knowing it doesn't matter because defeating the global chud coalition is all that matters for the foreseeable future

The thing about this is that Trump's 2024 victory was always built on irreconcilable messages that were going to collapse once he actually had to govern. Deport everyone, but also deport only the "criminals"; no more wars, but also more belligerent, more isolationist, but also more pro-Israel.

turns out that voting is a very good way to kick right wing authoritarians out of power

The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

The USA’s failure to punish Trump for Jan 6th was just an historic betrayal of global democracy. What a shameful, abject and total failure of institutions and civil society.

The Cheesecake Factory “controversy” is nice because it’s a rerun of the exact kind of stupid shit we had to sit through every day of the Obama administration. Now Zoomers don’t have to feel left out of having their own Obama “controversy” to reference.

The article is not a 20 page research paper. It's a summary of a lot of trends, including research that looks back to the late 20th century. (My pet theory: Look closely at what happens after passing the ADA.) But the reality is that young men don't work because it's easy not to work.
