I’m actually stunned by the Brazil result. The best I was expecting when I went to bed was a court annulment for all the Bolsonarist cheating. Remind me when I get too gloomy that unexpected good things do happen.

100% endorse. As the proud owner of one of Chloe's paintings.... you won't be disappointed. Mine's just the right size to put next to the thing

You should buy Chloe's stuff for that space on the wall next to the thing. You know the one.

Clearly, the cross was at fault... it had no lights, and wasn't wearing hi-vis or even a helmet

England is a made up thing. It has no basis in the ineluctable laws of nature. Its extent is defined by Edward II getting his arse handed to him. Athelstan conquering York. The Welsh of Cumbria were incorporated, the Welsh of Gwynedd were not. It is a political idea, an aspiration - not taxonomy.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

Jacob Rees-Mogg, the most stereotypically Tory conservative man of the 21st Century, responded to Suella Braverman with a long-form video criticizing her position and rejecting a race-based theory of Englishness, and in response has been ratioed by the increasingly feral British online far-right.

The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.

Liar. Small boat crossings peaked under Johnson in 2022 reaching 46,000 in 2022. In current year they are 18,565 and falling. Also prior to Boris Johnson's Brexit there were none.

Any lives lost due to this closure should be laid firmly at the feet of the far-right agitators who caused this. The way in which anti-asylum activists are putting more and more people at risk should be a wake up call that it is time to genuinely combat them, rather than pandering to their ideology.

The RNLI has said the abuse of volunteers in Portsmouth has forced it to close the lifeboat station there and stop operating since September 10. Nearby stations have been providing cover to the area instead. One of the UK's largest coastal cities without a lifeboat because of the far-right.

Still gobsmacking that Andy Burnhams response to the deaths from the climate crisis has been to pledge to try & stop the sale of single use barbeques. A monumental mistake. Time to do the right thing. Fund our firefighters & say no to new oil & gas. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Thanks for alert, HMG. Now alert yourselves that climate change is real, and stop faffing around with denial, flirting with more drilling, and all that shite.

This is what people who are against cycle lanes don't think about: if there is no cycle lane, the safest thing for a cyclist to do is to take the dominant position, in the middle of the road. Your choice ...

Toronto Mike@torontomike.com

The thing about ripping out bike lanes is it doesn't stop us from biking, it just makes it more dangerous. And if I feel unsafe, I take the lane.

This is just to say I have eaten the sailors that were in the ship and which you were probably saving for Ithaca Forgive me they were delicious so sweet and so Greek

Louie Stowell@louiestowell.bsky.social

Has anyone considers that Odysseus's problem is that his men are just too delicious. Yes, he angered the gods, but so many of them getting eaten cant be a coincidence.

Very pleased to be the new owner of Chloe's hoopoe. Can't wait to get it framed and on my wall. It came with a lovely thankyou note and bonus sketch of a lion (which I will keep, in order to prove the provenance of the hoopoe when Chloe is truly famous)

Chloe Cumming@chloecumming.bsky.social

Hi I’m Chloe and I make these small-scale lively handmade mixed media original drawings, these four are still available just in case this is useful info. Actual art at all too reasonable prices. And if you can’t afford it, thank you for looking and sharing etc. #art www.chloecumming.com

Direct, full-time jobs opening Rosebank oilfield would create: 450 D, f-t jobs opening Jackdaw gasfield would create: 27 D, f-t jobs in UK's net-zero economy: 300,000 + 400,000 more on the way D, f-t jobs in the rest of the green economy: 600,000 Is that really the hill Burnham wants to die on?

I’ve known this was coming and so has everyone else. It doesn’t exist, keep burning, it doesn’t exist, keep burning, oh, it *does* exist but it’s too late to do anything, so keep burning. The sheer cynicism should carry a jail sentence.

I’ve been standing stock still in this wood for about 10 minutes while I mess about with a photo on my phone. I look up, notice the shape, and slowly crouch down to film This has made me so happy I feel I could cry. It’s as close to magic as I hope to get.
