applying "Make ___ Great Again" to Germany really does kinda give the game away

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: “Wow! The Populist Party in Germany just had a really big night. They finally got tired of the absolutely horrible Immigration rules and regulations which have hurt Germany so badly. THEY ARE ON THE RISE, and not going to take it anymore! MGGA!!! President DJT”

Smash indies becoming publishers and sharing the wealth is the best thing to ever happen to this industry, and it’s a joy when their templates cross my desk as the terms are often extremely fair and the negotiations are always super amicable and pleasant

There's no forgiving this. No living it down. It's a stain on our humanity. When all this is over, the monsters who did this should be pariahs. And the soulless thugs who cheered it on while dehumanizing Haitian immigrants should be reminded of what they did every day of their lives.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

The situation in Haiti is terrifying. On Sunday, 150 gunmen swept down on a town to kill, rape, loot, and burn. 22 people were executed in a churchyard. 52 were taken hostage. Stephen Miller mockingly says Haiti is safe and ICE just sent its second deportation flight this month; with kids on board.

Somewhere in a sweltering desert, cockroaches scurry around the cell of Carlitos Ricardo Parias. He holds up a plastic bottle, gazing at the worm-like creatures swimming in his water. His other arm is turning purple from a gunshot wound for which he says he hasn’t received proper medical care.

This couple came legally. They applied for asylum before their visas expired, wanting to do it all by the books. After six months, they applied for work permits to stay afloat, passing background checks. They worked legally and paid taxes while government delay dragged on. Then ICE came for them.

Laura Rodríguez Presa@lauranrodriguez.bsky.social

The couple’s arrest outside Midway Airport aligns with what immigration attorneys across the country have observed in recent months: an increase in ICE arrests at airports of people traveling domestically with expired visas but pending immigration cases. www.chicagotribune.com/2026/08/05/c...

I have been driving a Jeep Wrangler for the past couple of weeks while my car is in the shop, and holy hell is it the worst vehicle I've ever driven by a wide margin. People pay $50k+ for these????

This includes people who came here legally on a visa, applied for another form of status, and are just waiting for the US government to decide their case. People who haven’t done a single thing wrong.

NEW: The Trump administration has begun arresting foreign citizens with expired visas as they travel through airports, according to documents obtained by The Times and interviews with lawyers — a tactic that opens up a vast new pool of people for deportation. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/28/u...

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars. Even if those cars are electric. And then there’s all the parking. OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc. Choices. Simple.

Lemme tell you about the angel of history being blown backwards into the future: The shackles these people have been put in are Hiatt brand, same company founded in 1780 to mass produce shackles for slaver ships.

The use of extremely online memetic aesthetics to support far-right political goals is like something out of Walter Benjamin’s nightmares.

interesting to me that as the administration treats democratic-voting states like conquered or occupied territories, you don’t have pundits demanding the president respect “half the country”

NEW: In a stunning admission, the Trump administration admitted in court documents that it canceled billions in energy grants to states "based solely" on politics -- and whether that state was represented by Democrats and backed Harris in 2024. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/24/b...

So on one hand, we have obscene price increases due to AI driven memory/storage hitting both PC and console hardware prices. On the other hand, PlayStation/Xbox are busy killing their own platforms through unsustainable studio acquisition/closure cycles. Incredible work everyone, the future rules

I can’t bring myself to be too celebratory. This should have been a 9-0 slam dunk. My main takeaway is that there are currently 4 votes to undo a longstanding constitutional guarantee that 15 years ago seemed beyond any serious question.

David J. Bier@davidjbier.bsky.social

This day will be celebrated, but it never should have come to this. President Trump attempted to subvert the clear words of our Constitution and the traditions of our country for hundreds of years by instructing ICE to arrest US-born Americans. It was an attempted crime.

really cannot be emphasized enough that the drafters of the birthright clause very much considered cases analogous to undocumented immigrants and *included them too*

That's right.

Weird how this never applies to the Second Amendment.

Housing policy is climate policy. (Climate policy is also housing policy, because the point of influencing the climate is so that we can live in it.)

Building California's 1.8M needed homes in walkable, low-VMT neighborhoods could cut statewide driving 4.5% and avoid 8 million tons of climate pollution annually by 2033. Housing location is climate policy. cayimby.org/blog/did-som...

There's no better distillation of Project 2025 than this: an illegal action, taken without any public oversight, for inherently corrupt purposes, now held to be irreversible for no other reason than because they added poison pills to make it unacceptably damaging.

The Kennedy Center board has filed an emergency motion to stay at the DC Circuit and it is bonkity-bonkers. For the first time, they say they amended the bylaws to strip all funding from the center if it removes Trump's name. No Trump KC, no money. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Conservatives have spent decades labeling everything left of Ronald Reagan as marxist/socialist/communist, while at the same time exclusively enacting policies that benefit the wealthy. They have themselves shifted public opinion far enough, that we're going to enact all of these

Acyn@acyn.bsky.social

Buttigieg: We sit in a in a country that's got the wrong number of people on the Supreme Court, possibly the wrong number of representatives in the House of Representatives. And by the way, when you consider the disenfranchisement of the people of DC, we have the wrong number of states in the US

At this point, the claims that elections are "rigged" are in the same realm as claims of demonic possession. The people behind this alleged conspiracy are clearly, in the GOP imagining, actual wizards, possessed of dark magic. That and also "rigged" means "they let Black people vote."

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

RAJU: But what evidence is there to prove the California election is rigged? MIKE JOHNSON: Look, some of these efforts are so diabolical and so far upstream it's impossible to prove. But I think everybody knows instinctively that something is wrong here.
