This went on for the rest of the full hour, at which point the BBC apologised for having to go to the weather and urged viewers to follow continuing live coverage on iPlayer. Forty-one minutes of unfiltered, unchallenged propaganda by a far right party with 8 MPs, now third in the polls. Discuss.

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

Next spring, put them forward two hours and leave them there.

Messing around with clocks every year "so it's safe for kids to walk to school" is yet another casual widespread acceptance that people driving cars won't do so safely

Shocking that some people can reach levels of denial like this.

Laila Cunmingham, the London Mayoral candidate, expresses amger at the overt racism of Reform councillors, though strongly trusts Farage on racism She says she is proud to be English of Muslim heritage, which is another argunent some party voices (Braverman, Goodwin) question.

I do sometimes wonder if the political history of this period, when written, will mainly conclude: “Many people lost their way simply by spending too long on X.”

Paul James reposted

"The one thing your viewers can know for sure is that we believe in controlling spending and reducing taxes, not increasing taxes," says Conservative Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp, whose own government raised taxes to their highest level in more than 70 years, just two years ago.

Tice isn't as clever as Farage, who understands that he has to at least pretend not to support these thugs

Peter Walker@peterwalker99.bsky.social

Are Reform UK *sure* they want to yoke themselves to people like Daniel “Danny Tommo” Thomas? Nigel Farage was adamant for years that most voters instantly recognise and intensely dislike football thug types like him and Tommy Robinson.

There's a real risk (30%*) of the far right winning the next UK general election. They have boasted that they would brook no resistance, and to prove it, they attacked a woman in their own conference. So resist now, before it's too late. *99% Organisation analysis

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

Riddle me this. If somebody donates £36 million to a political party and £5 million to its leader, how is the £5 million not political? Asking for a parliamentary standards commissioner.

I've signed, because I want more people to feel safe cycling for transport. Too many people want to cycle more, but don't feel safe doing so.

Cycling UK Official @cyclinguk.bsky.social

Busy traffic, harassment and unsafe routes can leave women feeling that the streets they ride on are ‘Not Designed For Me’. That needs to change! 👉 Add your name to our letter to the Prime Minister & call for safer cycling for women: https://action.cyclinguk.org/page/198980/petition/1

Police to "protesters": Look, guys, too early alright, go home and wait for a reform governent before putting on the masks and hoods. We may even join you.

Thomas I-G@thomasig.bsky.social

This was clearly not an act of spontaneity. Dozens and dozens of men travelling down, all wearing black, all wearing masks is anything but a spontaneous protest. An infuriating response.

GB News had a piece about merchandise at the Reform Conference. After football tops, cups and ties the reporter finished it on black hooded shirts, i was hoping they would switch straight to Dover protest, but sadly it went straight to Jenrick. Same thing I guess.

HOPE not hate@hopenothate.org.uk

This morning at 7:30am, a group of men dressed in black and their faces covered, gathered in Dover. The men, members of the anti-migrant vigilante group Patriot Platform, proceeded to block the port of Dover and several roads nearby. Our briefing: hopenothate.org.uk/2026/09/05/p...

Brexit didn't compound the wrong turns. It's the mother of all wrong turns. Burnham is full of shit.

Peter Stefanovic@peterstefanovic.bsky.social

Andy Burnham says UK has taken "a series of wrong turns" since the 1980s which was "compounded" by Brexit which led to "a decade of low growth and stalled regeneration". Burnham adds: "Change begins with honesty... Unless we are blunt about what went wrong, we won’t turn things around” 👏

Say what you see.

I think we still underplay how much this has to do with X. It remains the main platform used by politicians, commentators and journalists, it was bought by Musk precisely for this purpose, and it's worked

I know it’s not very cool and I-told-you-so of me, but I never thought we’d see this level of open racism in the dead mainstream of the UK in my lifetime. Of course we were aware of The Warning From History and stuff, but it’s so jarring to see it unfold.

Helmets are often misinterpreted as the solution to safety. Put simply, they aren't. Helmets protect your head from an uncontrolled fall. Proper infrastructure is what protects you from multi-ton vehicles. Don't conflate the two, they are worlds apart.
