NEW: For over a year, staff at Oklahoma’s regulatory agency built a case against the oil company with the state’s highest number of oil field pollution incidents and violations.
Instead of punishing the company, officials let it restart operations.

This analyst's report from Apollo about AI uses the term "S&P 493" to refer to the "S&P 500 minus the Mag 7" - because if you take out the AI companies, the S&P 500 is tanking. www.apollo.com/wealth/insig...
In November we're hosting 2 (free) events in recognition of World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims: a rally at City Hall on Nov 15, and a panel of crash survivors at VGH on Nov 20. Please see details and join us:

The Guardian spent 9 or 10 months on our justice of the peace investigation. A total of 15 people worked on it at one point or another.
11,000 pages of court records, responsible AI tools, and a custom-made browser extension: read all about how we got it done
“…the Villages Plan, as clunky as it was, should give folks a little bit of a signal where we probably need to go, which I think is four- to six-storey, wood-framed construction, single egress staircase apartments. We need to build a lot more of that because we can build that faster and cheaper.”

Billionaires throw a fit at the idea of an annual wealth tax... but literally everyone else already pays one via property taxes (either directly as a homeowner or secondarily as a renter). The only reason securities aren't taxed the same is because that's where the rich keep most of their wealth.
“The borrowing let Ellison keep his stock and avoid locking in taxable gains, and highlighted how billionaires often employ a strategy called ‘buy, borrow and die’ to retain their wealth without selling assets.”
Voters are facing 2.5-hour lines and 45-minute walks to get to the polls. Why? Because Republicans slashed early voting sites.
Make a voting plan, bring snacks and water and vote as early as you can. Follow Democracy Docket for the latest news ahead of the midterms.
Democratic-aligned group Progress Action Fund has released a PRO-trans ad, attacking Republicans for being creepy in bathrooms.
It will run in Texas and Ohio, and is expected to reach millions.

Small lot single stair apartment buildings could fit well among the large detached homes, or sharing the same lot.
Uptake would probably be slow but it would be a big symbolic shift if we stopped providing government-enforced zoning protections for estate mansion districts, and allowed subdivision
This is a white-hot, 278-alarm digital sovereignty dumpster-fire. M365 - as well as cloud software from Oracle, Google, Apple, Amazon and other US tech giants.
Some people say biking isn't practical, because you can't carry cargo - but with the right bike, a friend and a chunky 40 pound battery are no issue at all. We even had room for more!
The rewards program at Save-On-Foods just had a security breach. This means that hackers stole personal information and "We have today confirmed that your name, and, if provided, address, phone number, email addresses and date of birth on the More Rewards database were accessed during this incident"
Oh great. Tell me again why you needed my address and date of birth?
Please, could companies stop asking for more information than they need if they lack the resources to protect that information?
I don't know whether I provided a date of birth, and if so if it was accurate. Here's hoping not.
In 1993, Trump signed a mortgage for a Florida home, pledging it would be his principal residence. Seven weeks later, he attested a neighboring property would also be his principal residence.
In reality, he does not seem to have lived in either home.

Chuck Schumer — one of the most powerful Democrats in the country — has not issued statements to the press or through his social media channels about the administration’s attack on Ilhan Omar, which critics have described as a five alarm fire for the state of democracy in the U.S.
So @matthewseiji.com a terrific writer, designer, musician, wanted to to learn film making, took a course at UW and made two short films. One of them is a documentary that is debuting at Tasveer Film Festival. It's called Eka. My part was easy, he did the work tffm-2026.eventive.org/films/6a85fb...
Actually, there's a pretty good book out in five days with a chapter about what happens to cities when they don't build adequate non-car transportation options that scale alongside population growth that I hear has pretty good illustrations
A friend's sibling's child is non-binary, and the friend wished English had a good word for them.
OH, says I. But we DO! That's your NIBLING.
It's a mash-up of niece/nephew + sibling, and it's gender-neutral, linguistically efficient, and CUTE.
Sharing this for anybody who doesn't know the word.
One day to go, one last ride. 🚲
Before election day, we’re going back to where OneCity started: active transport. It’s why Safe Mobility anchors our platform — and why Vision Zero Vancouver gave us an A+ on road safety.
So we’re closing this election the only way that makes sense: with a Bike Bus.
I have questions:
1) Why does the IRS website prohibit spaces in filenames?
2) Why doesn't it say that it prohibits spaces in filenames?
3) Why doesn't it tell me which rule has been violated when I try to upload a file whose name contains spaces?
Earlier this year spaces in filenames were allowed - I guess they are tightening up their security.
Say a prayer for me for having to deal with this upload process enough times to track its changes over the months.
No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads
Inflation is up again. Not because of a pandemic. Not because of a natural disaster. Because of Trump’s war, tariffs, and corporate tax breaks.
It really is this simple: Republicans took over, and then drove up the cost of living in America.
There will be a lot of equivocating about all the times search warrants have been executed on members of Congress for corruption investigations and the like, and it can't be stressed enough in how many ways HSI raiding Ilhan Omar is extremely not like that.
This story makes it sound like the major problem is that the Trump Admin did this w/in 60 days of an election. Yes, that's a real abuse. But the major problem is they're basically threatening to denaturalize an opposition legislator, based on racist insinuations. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/12/u...
In 3 years, 6 pedestrians have been killed on the same short stretch of Lougheed in Maple Ridge. Why does it keep happening, and what can we do about it? We went to investigate.
youtu.be/KSpQ5SNmc48?...
I just filled in my WA-state ballot and learned for the first time about IL26-638. This will prohibit trans-girls from playing sports and will probably pass. In WA state.
In addition to preventing some girls from playing sports it will force all girls to prove their gender.
I wish that more of the voters actually knew some trans people and I wish they spent more time thinking about the shit show they are forcing on the cis-girls that they are trying to "protect."
It's all just so pointlessly cruel
This is a HUGE red flag for transportation in Vancouver.
Ken Sim is vowing to repeal Gregor Robertson's 2017 delegation of authority to the chief engineer on road allocation.
This would mean that every single bike lane and traffic calming scheme has to go to council for a public hearing and vote.
That really is the cherry on top of the shit sandwich of under-priced insurance. As a pedestrian, I need to carry extra-insurance, if I can get it, to cover the risk of being disabled or killed by a driver.
These were identical trips, loaded via identical referrer URLs. The difference was that in the browser where Air Canada knew that I was an extremely loyal and prolific customer, they had whacked me with a *44.8% premium* to punish me for my loyalty!
You’ve got to be joking me.
Here is the pro-police party that created an entire narrative about our unsafe streets using her phone while driving.
Fantastic.
Distraction is the second leading cause of fatal crashes in our region and province. We hope that all candidates take that seriously, especially those from a party campaigning on public safety.
