This afternoon, my husband & I walked up to a newish pharmacy in our neighbourhood to get flu & Covid shots. The pharmacy is located in a long-vacated branch of the Royal Bank, in a slightly tatty strip mall. The young pharmacist told us he emigrated to Canada 10 years ago, from Nigeria via the UK.

The moral rot is top-to-bottom in the GOP. But let’s focus on the more specific issue here: Trump and his party like rape. Whether it’s child abuse or campus sexual assault, they think rape is ok. Maybe they even think it’s funny.

Obama’s Cheesecake Factory decor joke is going to continue to get far more play in the media, days after it happened, than RFK Jr being openly racist. Draw your own conclusions about the press based on that.

You can do the same thing, buying a house and borrowing against it—ha ha, just kidding, normal people get taxed annually on their wealth via property taxes, the "you can't tax wealth, the economy will collapse!" rule applies solely to the super-rich.

Steven T. Dennis@steventdennis.bsky.social

For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.

I have court documents from a Trump and Epstein mid-1990s child rape case in my 2020 book HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT, which was a bestseller. Folks pretending they just learned about this are full of it. They refused to pursue it and let victims suffer in silence, fearing no one cared to hear the truth.

Not a big story, it's just the Attorney General working with an imprisoned pedophile to help cover up the pedophile President's crimes conducted with his best friend for 15 years, a pedophile who the President sent, as a birthday card, a drawing of a naked adolescent girl.

Amanda Marcotte@amandamarcotte.bsky.social

This report is genuinely overwhelming, in terms of the evidence both against Trump and of a ham-fisted cover-up. Including one instance in which Ghislaine Maxwell was actually about to mention one of Trump's young accusers and Todd Blanche told her to stop talking. The media response is "yawn."

RFK Jr.'s screed about the absence of Arab contributions to science, culture, literature, etc is an old saw. I've heard it for decades from politicians, academics, writers, media and too often from people face-to-face. In some cases it demonstrates their own ignorance (ironic, don't you think?)...

Where it crosses over from simple stupidity about the world and human history is when you meet someone, and I've met several, who devotes time and effort to proving it because then you've got someone who has had to work around the evidence, around the history, to support their bigotry.

These are the people I write off entirely because they've used what little cognitive horsepower they have under the hood (see what I did there?) to double-down on the hate and the bullshit. RFK Jr. is one of these latter types and the sooner he's dead and gone the better the world will be.

It's really damning. The accusations are numerous and well-supported. But I was really struck by the descriptions of Trump's behavior -- the name dropping, strong-arming, and attempts to buy off silence. His gross rivalry with Epstein. It's all so familiar. It's shit he's been doing his entire life.
