Even small games have hundreds of assets, so the asset workflows are critical for any project, big or small. The asset browser is a critical tool because of that. Asset importing, searching, and use, have to be easy to do. I wrote about it sometime ago here: rystorm.com/blog/asset-b...

rystorm.comThe critical flaw of asset browsers — Robin-Yann Storm, Product & UX for Creative ToolsWhat is something that a lot of asset browsers do, that causes issues if not addressed?

One interesting observation from Juan’s talk at GodotCon: most of game dev work is asset management. It made us realize that while code editing is important on the iPad, it was worth redoing all the asset integration UI as native/touch friendly. Worth delaying for it.

Take a look at one of our most ambitious backgrounds! 🌊✨ Peñíscola’s iconic castle 🏰 plays a key role in Shadows of the Afterland. Why a location in Valencia when the game is set in Madrid? 🤔 No spoilers, but it’s vital to Carolina’s story! 🖤🔮 #pixelart

I love the revamping of Game Developer but am tired of all this engineers first - this is what games are - stories. game != engine (for you nerds) Also... the every game has to be a totally new thing, that new mechanics are required versus a good version of something is just lazy and exhausting.

One of the biggest questions in 2024 was if developers should move on from Unity and other proprietary engines, and if so, how? At GDC 2024, developer Rez Graham made a case for building your own engine, outlining the available tools, as well as some pitfalls #GDBestof2024

Hear me out, one of the worst #UETips you probably saw. Used a lot in fast protyping if I want to avoid Casts (IE: I don't know the class) and is too early to implement interfaces. You can use 'Set timer By Function' to call it in an actor without parameters and if you set time more than zero.

Now, I know this screams bad practices 360 and I am living with it. I only use it for quick testing of ideas, and I always include Labels in nodes to know which nodes to replace when protyping is done. I use it a lot in Non Functional prototyping for test cases.

I highly recommend this book, whether you're talking to someone important, like your special other, parents/siblings or friends, or even business partner/coworkers. It takes a lot to be vulnerable and to speak honest truth, but that goes a long way to prevent the growth of resentment.

OKAY I said I'd do it, and I did... made a Video Game PR Starter Pack. If you're a media or influencer-relations rep in games, let me know and I'll add you. I'll share the link when I have some more people in it.

Hi #gamedev friends. I have a favour to ask. Our game Harvest Hunt 🌒 needs more visibility. We have 100% positive reviews, whoever played it loved it, but it needs help getting discovered by all you horror/indie game fans! Spread the word, it would help us out a lot! villainous.games/harvest-hunt

If I had one Genie wish, I'd ask for a website similar to www.gameuidatabase.com but for VFX. 👀 Something like Game VFX Database!✨ Imagine browsing through effects per style or scrubbing frame-by-frame without downloading anything. #GameDev #VFX

Hey everyone. 👋 My name is Alex and I'm the lead developer at Polygon Treehouse (Röki/Mythwrecked) where I make art-led narrative indie games. My background is in art/animation but I tend to now work across most disciplines! In my previous life I worked for 14 in AAA at PlayStation.

I used to be the design director for an AAA UE5 game, and now I lead a small indie game development team in our free time with @roydecampagna.bsky.social, who is an expert in Blueprints and technical art in UE5. I am a fan of blueprints and a systems designer. Can we be added?
