My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

Small dick energy.

“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”

🚨BREAKING PMQs🚨 PM: "I think before the budget next week, we will have a new book published about the mini-budget of a few of a few years ago" "The authors of that mini-budget are sitting across these benches, including the Shadow Chancellor."

Also found it a bit odd, when listening to the 6PM news on BBC Radio 4, that they repeatedly referred to 'the government' rather than, say, 'the Johnson government'. #Accountability

Funny, that. "Hancock and pandemic-era PM Boris Johnson declined to comment when Playbook PM approached them. Conservative MP Jeremy Hunt, who served as health secretary between 2012 and 2018 and might have been expected to oversee pandemic preparedness, did not respond to a request to comment."

Coverage of the troubled relationship between the King and his youngest son dominates front pages at the expense of 43,000, mostly needless, deaths. Hancock and Johnson should be in prison.

On this day from the Telegraph 4 years ago (with thanks to Francis Wheen) Truss resigned three hours later. I love the way the Telegraph blames "moderate Tories" rather than her clinically insane economic policy which - lest we forget - the Conservative press backed to the hilt

2020: Matt Hancock, "We've tried to throw a protective ring around our care homes" 2026: Baroness Hallett, "The claim that a so called protective ring has be thrown around care homes right from the start was unfounded. The adult social care sector appeared to be something of an after thought"

cool cool sanitisation of the far-right on the national broadcaster cool cool very cool

Peter Geoghegan@petergeoghegan.bsky.social

When did the BBC description of Tommy Robinson change from ‘far right activist’ to ‘political activist’? Because that’s how he’s described on Radio 4 now

I posted this famous 1940 Lowe cartoon about British defiance after the fall of France (and the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact) two years ago when Trump came to power. And now with the USA and Russia lining up against Ukraine and Europe, it’s time we stood up again: “Very well, alone”.

I've just signed the Palantir Pledge, joining politicians across the world in committing not to support any public contracts with this US tech giant. The next big battle here is to use the upcoming break clause to kick Palantir out of our NHS!

Was that the same security services you dumped to visit ‘ex’ KGB colonel Alexander Lebedev and party in Umbria just after the Novichok Salisbury attack? Or the same security services whose advice you defied to put his son Evgeny in the House of Lords? Those security services?

I'm sure former UN ambassador Abdallah Al-Mouallimi will be delighted to have been introduced, very crisply, as "Abdullah al Mussolini" by Justin Webb. Seriously, how does this man still have a six-figure job at the BBC? When he is not busy being biased, he is busy being useless.

This is rather cool. Shared with me by Gil Cividanes who writes "The photo taken in front of a [Francoist] Spanish grocery on West 14th Street, NYC in about 1937. The girl on left is my aunt Zazi aged 18-19, the woman to her right is my grandmother's friend Doña Francisca." Don't buy fascist goods.
