My grandfather, Joseph Justman, was a statistician for the NYC Board of Ed for most of his career. His focus was gifted and talented programs. One of his studies was very interesting, but never fully implemented.

"But what do we do with the gifted kids, they'll just sit in class and twiddle their thumbs?" I don't know, I guess it's impossible for them to help their classmates, or work on a project in class that uses their curiosity and also teaches their classmates something. <shrug> Guess we can't!

The g&t kids who remained in class with supplemental material did as well as the kids pulled into all exclusive g&t programs. The result that surprised people was that when g&t kids remained in a class, the entire class had better overall performance.

In other words, the idea of segregating g&t kids is less beneficial to schools as a whole. And it makes no difference to the g&t kids if they still receive supplemental material.

He did a/b studies of gifted and talented programs. For cohort A, the g&t kids were put in isolated classes with supplemental material. As expected, those g&t kids did better than not receiving supplemental material. The kids not in the g&t program performed the same.

Cohort B of g&t kids were left in the class with kids not classified as g&t. However, while they were in the same class, the teachers gave these g&t students extra assignments and work.

My brain cannot process this level of corruption. She was being paid $50 million to engineer a pardon from Trump *while working at the Justice Department* as a "Special Government Employee." And it worked. He got the pardon, and she got the money. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/20/u...

He got it not long after his daughter gave Ms. Habba, a lawyer close to President Trump, an extraordinarily lucrative job.

How do you get the PII including SSN of every person in the United States? Easy! "Give" every child one share of your company that has an over-inflated value. The company charges for the shares cost you personally nothing. Heck, you could probably make it a tax deduction if you structure it right.

Is he giving one share per kid or one share to be split across all of the kids? Either way, I don't think he should have another incentive to kill more children.

You know, Elon, if you just paid your taxes, we could give those kids food and healthcare, things far more valuable than stock in a government-welfare-dependent company that is bound to go bankrupt eventually.

Andreesen Horowitz decided to employ a guy to manage other people's pension money, on no other basis than that he'd been in the news for choking someone to death on the subway. If that doesn't make you think these guys ain't right, then good luck with your cap table I guess.

In the USA, there are ~50 million Black people, and ~50 million immigrants. So far this year, US cops have killed 217 Black people like this. Not a typo. Two hundred and seventeen. US cops are between 10 times and 100 times more dangerous for Black people than ICE is for immigrants.

This is petty and least important aspect of this but: I reported on this years ago and the trump campaign falsely denied the reporting, and now via Hegseth they’re just doing it. Monstrous

But in his defense, President Trump is stupid, evil, and corrupt. When you think of it in that context, this is totally acceptable, right?

This is nothing to celebrate. Sinema is a disappointment as a member of Congress. But if you don't like someone, just break up with them and move on. Don't be fucking abusive.

Sure, but it's worth remembering that Sen. Collins is at best a naive fool and at worst a corrupt scoundrel. Or both.

Bobby Kogan@bbkogan.bsky.social

I think something to consider here is that Collins voted to confirm Russ Vought as OMB Director despite the fact that he said a billion times that he thought Trump had a constitutional right to illegally impound funds, and now she’s doing shocked Pikachu reactions.

It's like a parody, but it's deadly serious; the Commerce Department (which includes Census, NOAA, and others) has outright deleted "don't alter or suppress scientific findings for political reasons" from its scientific integrity rules. Seriously.

Ron DeSantis and his wife didn’t just misappropriate $10M in funds; they misappropriated Medicaid settlement funds for low-income Americans and children. They could have used it to make a difference in the lives of Floridians, not fund their personal wish lists.
