People alive today have created only a small portion of our society's wealth. The larger portion is created by technology handed down by previous generations. That portion belongs to all of us. Let's reclaim it from the rich w/ high income & estate taxes.

This report is genuinely overwhelming, in terms of the evidence both against Trump and of a ham-fisted cover-up. Including one instance in which Ghislaine Maxwell was actually about to mention one of Trump's young accusers and Todd Blanche told her to stop talking. The media response is "yawn."

If still debating whether Donald Trump or Elon Musk willfully crippled Ukraine's missile defense, helping to slay innocent civilians, you are a rube. If the U.S. President had no role, then an oligarch governs national security. If not, the U.S. President serves Russia. Both answers are mortifying.

All these so-called “independent” Republicans will go right back to voting for Johnson as speaker, confirm every Trump nominee, vote with Trump on everything, and continue doing zero oversight on his corrupt regime. A vote for any one of them is a vote to continue all of that.

Late to this Bloomberg piece on Marc Andreessen. This is one of the key things. Andreessen is *angry* about how he has been treated, when any objective observer might note he has benefited enormously from the institutions he now purports to detest. www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

The job of academia is to increase knowledge, while the premise of conservatism is that knowledge is bad. So it is not surprising that we find few conservatives in academia.

Worse still -- the fundamental flaw of the Constitution -- is their failure to recognize even the best systems for checking power getting captured eventually. Because that's powerful people do! They fucking wreck things. The only way to deal with that is to continually update those systems.

People are claiming that Elon Musk messed with Starlink in Ukraine because Trump asked him. I think a more likely reason is that Ukraine damaging Russian data centers embarrassed Elon by showing how many of his Twitter followers are nonexistent and how much traffic on Twitter is driven by bots.

Clear takeaway: If you don't want the US government (under Trump, or anyone else in the future) or Elon Musk personally to surprise you by cutting satellite internet access you thought you had secured, the only way is to not use anything made by SpaceX. Otherwise, the risk will always be there.

Doesn't matter who is technically responsible. Starlink can't be trusted with work loads that are important. That's what this episode proved. Hopefully every responsible government, organization acts appropriately.

Up to now, the polls have under-estimated Trump's popularity, because voters have not been willing to admit they like him. But now, the polls likely are over-estimating his popularity, because his voters are not willing to admit they are abandoning him. If so, look for a real election wipeout.

We need to report more figures in daily life as percentages of net worth rather than raw numbers. We should also levy fines the same way. A $250 speeding ticket may be fully 2.5% of a poor person's net worth. It would also be equivalent to fining Elon Musk $2.5 billion.

Brittany Page@brittanyepage.bsky.social

"At Musk's current estimated net worth of $1 trillion — a thousand billion; a million million — dropping $366 million is the equivalent of one of those median-income-earning households spending $32."
