Jim Ratcliffe, tax-dodging Brexiter billionaire living in Monaco, says the poorest and most vulnerable should have their rights & benefits removed to bolster our economy.
Don’t bother telling us this rancid man’s opinions unless you say how much he’s avoided in tax and what Brexit is costing us all.
Very pleased to have been an early reader for this novel, which has now been published. I’m a sucker for weird and wonderful sci-fi written in a future dialect.
Q: What's the large muscular organ in a woman's chest called?
A: The heart?
Q: I'm sorry, Bob. It's the SPLEEN. The spleen.

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.
If every statement about Extinction Rebellion had opened with "Climate change is the single biggest issue facing humanity, and we understand why people have legitimate concerns the world isn't doing enough to tackle it…" this approach might be *faintly* defensible. But they didn't, and it isn't.
They’re just pouring more fuel onto the fire. Why are the racists consistently called legitimate, whilst in a world that’s burning people who protest over climate change and genocide are not being afforded even a smidgeon of the same grace?
The Times has run a story this morning about how ‘polite’ the masked men in Dover were to three white ladies on a train. Propaganda in its clumsiest form.
Picking on the RNLI and thinking you are the good guys is such a great example of what is presumably an irreversible brain rot, like if you opened up the bonnet on those heads it would be like when a peach has gone too mushy to be saved
It’s only a couple of days since Farage and Reform were caught red-handed trying to break election law and then lying about it, and it’s already disappeared.
The utter hypocrisy of Kemi Badenoch here, after banning myself and the late great David Hencke from Conservative Party conference last year.
Needless to say my application to attend this year on behalf of Byline Times has still not been approved
It looks like there may have been around 1,000 additional deaths in England and Wales during the August heatwave.
The chart shows deaths occurring in each week of 2025 and 2026. I've added an estimate of deaths which have not yet been registered, and marked heatwave weeks with red borders. 1/3
Is the latest Reform/Farage scandal coverage on BBC News going to be "hound Jason Arday into the grave" endless or "Kemi Badenoch defends a Nazi" forgotten after a day?
I know this isn't terrorism.
You know this isn't terrorism.
The authorities know this isn't terrorism.
But, once again, they have labelled protesters "terrorists", as part of the long-running programme to ensure that no one dares protest about anything any more.

I got paid one working day early yesterday. And my bank thinks I’ll also get paid one day late on Tuesday. Can bacs payments be cancelled before they arrive?
I can’t believe we’re still having a debate about whether there’s a trade off between job creation and measures to green the economy. There isn’t. The evidence was clear years ago - a green economy creates far more jobs than the fossil fuel economy it replaces. Come on Labour, catch up …
Layoffs hit Double Fine today, and I'm sorry to report that I was one of the ones hit. If you need a game designer with tech chops and 2+ decades of experience, here I am.
Hugely concerning. This highlights flaws in UK counter-terror laws which sweep up activity most people would never consider to be terrorism - and confirms fears that those laws would increasingly be used to target direct action www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
A minister for AI is a great idea. Here's a thread of questions journalists should ask this minister, in no particular order, off the top of my head. I'm sure people can think of better ones.
🧵
Despite economic growth UK living standards fell in 2026.
Growth driven by increases in spending on housing, water, gas, electricity, all fleecing people.
Stealth tax rises, frozen tax thresholds deplete disposable income.
No trickle down.
Households' saving ratio down.
Must redistribute.
Waiting for the system justifiers on this platform to claim that Geoffrey Robertson KC "doesn't understand the law". That's what all of us who've made these points have been told. Maybe not understanding how this could possibly be right is a sign of our humanity.

The Fire Brigades Union has made a statement on the proposed EHRC Code of Practice on Services.
Our message is clear. Equality matters, solidarity is essential, and we will continue to fight for both.
This chart is bonkers.
I think there's two possible explanations for why the UK runs so far ahead of other European countries – neither of them good. And the annual April price jump speaks to a wider issue. For more detail, see my column in this weekend's Observer.

A Labour minister unable to condemn Reform's plan for the mass deportations of our neighbours.
Cowardly and disgraceful.
Labour are incapable of standing up to Reform's divisive nonsense. Only the Green Party have the courage to do this.
I am hosting Have I Got News For You tonight! Ian‘s guest is Bella Hull and Paul‘s guest is Karl Turner MP. There’s something for everyone, by which I mean, everyone who is interested in the Labour Party or football.
9pm on BBC One.
The fact that Keir Starmer has drafted Morgan McSweeney back in to save him has to be funniest part of all of this. Truly committed to never learning a single lesson you have to give it to him
People who think private efficient, public inefficient, need to get out more. Change electricity supplier: shambles. Change annual milage on insurance, they screw up marital status. Try to buy a car: get messed around and lied to. Organise a will: repeated errors in spellings of names. 1/
Tax a vehicle online: quick and easy. Order a GHIC: done and approved in minutes, arrives in a few days. Need land registry documents: just works. Need to check NI record: all done online, no fuss. /2
What happened was, Musk bought X & started pushing it in a nazi direction. This prompted a semi-mass exodus (including me). But the exodus basically petered out. To my dismay -- & to their eternal discredit -- lots & lots of prominent people, journos, institutions, experts, brands, etc. stayed.
