Look this isn't even limited to this specific post but I feel like "pogrom" is one of those words that we should really try to claw out of casual usage. There is no just comparison between a targeted massacre against an ethnic/religious minority and trannies being mean to bigots.

Kim@kim65.bsky.social

This isn't going to poll well, but I think some of the online trans activists turn them off. I remember the online mob that went after JK Rowling. It's one thing to harshly and repeatedly criticize a person who clings to bigotry (they deserve it). But it's another to carry on a pogrom for YEARS.

Trump is so un-American that he can’t even stage a coup for a right wing dictator in Latin America. Shame.

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

BREAKING WaPo: Brazil's right-wing Flávio Bolsonaro just effectively conceded defeat to the incumbent left-wing president — minutes after Trump indicated he would not intervene on his behalf.

"hey so our product could potentially annihilate all of mankind if it gets out of our control, something we also claim has happened several times. please intertwine us so deeply with the economy that if you DON'T give us the GDP of some nations, no one can ever retire." genius pitch, Anthropic.

i maintain that if "rogue AI" was a real risk, and not just "shitheads can now mega-pump spam" (which is the actual reality, but sounds less cool to investors), we would have a moral obligation to arrest everyone who worked on any one of those programs and invent new laws to jail them under

SJ Klapecki (should be writing) reposted

oh anthropic is profitable? i guess that makes theft of the commons at unprecedented scale and destruction of the environment to power the machine that automates the wholesale slaughter of meaning okay then and i will promptly reevaluate my position on AI is what i would say if i were insane

If that 'Friends' tab means I can invite active collaborators like it's google docs but it has the format/capacities of Scrivener this might just be my new writing software because holy shit collaborating on basically everything else suuuuuuuuuucks

We know everyone loves a sneak-peek, so here’s a quick look at the drafting pane in action. With over 100 features, Kalliope Draft is a monster. We’ll be sharing until we bring them all to life. Or until you come after us with pitchforks. In the meantime, this is called Ink & Paper mode.

CONCEPTUALIZATION - Pity. The jackets are meant to complete each other. If a man were standing alone on a street corner with 'PISSF****T' written on his back, it'd just be an individual that has taken a liking to urine. And 'FUCK THE WORLD' all on its own is, frankly, generic.

I genuinely believe that using AI slowly destroys your soul, and I believe that you do have one because the lack thereof is so obvious when you see a mother who has rendered herself incapable of listing three things about her child.

This footage shot by a tourist aboard Jacksonville Boat Charters near Amelia Island, Florida shows a leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea). At 2000 lbs (900 kg) & 7 ft long (2.1 m) they're the largest turtles & indeed one of the heaviest extant reptiles on Earth. Here There Be Monsters!

re: a twitter post speculating "space opera faction with the common stahlhelm+red goggles natzee-coded aesthetic, but they're actually a fairly reasonable center-leftist democracy" Would take a lot of work to clarify, no, their mission statements actually *aren't* euphemisms for atrocities.

I have a theory that all "Great Men" of history can be sorted into either "and the device shows me boobs?" or "the moon in the fucking sky?" Lenin, Trotsky, Adam Smith, and George Washington are all "went to the moon?" Ben Franklin, Hamilton, Socrates, and Bakunin are instances of "shows me boobs?"

trying to help a Hinge match understand that a digital copy of their brain being uploaded doesn't mean they're immortal now because they don't "get" to be the copy and their meat body will still die someday and really understanding why Catherine just gave up trying to explain that to Simon in SOMA

like this is so cynical, so obviously heretical, so obviously, deeply, antithetical to anything resembling Catholic hamaritology or penitential theology, it's probably actively added years to Purgatory if not outright some sort of mortal sin meaning you're dunked into Hell for doing this

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Apparently my brain at 3:00 AM really wanted to brainstorm sketch ideas for Mark Carney trying to protect the environment from himself, and to be honest it kinda cooked with this one

okay so I am seeing a bunch of posts about a bunch of scary shit regarding something called PHP and computer security that I simply do not understand and I am hoping someone can just tell me what kind of practical things I should probably get up to in the next day if there is some big security thing

Forcefem via focus group. Yeah, we did A/B testing and determined your character is 80% more marketable as a girl, so we redesigned you. What? No, your contract stipulates your public presentation must be congruent with your role's brand identity, and "being a boy" is no longer on the approved list.

But hey, if you push through and beat the odds and become a one-in-a-million success story, you too might one day have a throng of fans tweeting at you to kill yourself

a cool thing about indie animation is that it's expected to save the entire industry, every show has to look better than the things the fans grew up on or it's a waste of time, there's no union to be found anywhere, no budget for any of it, and asking the audience to pay anything to watch is illegal
