The random object head generator lives!! nyoom.neocities.org/objecthead.h...
It's assembled from ~200 public domain images and generates a random object head character, PLUS descriptive text so it's accessible :B (plus if u screenshot it the alt text is already written)
New from me. Talked to @sam.robotsfightingdinosaurs.com about his game Die on this Hill and it's uncanny resemblance to a new game from Jackbox, Debate and Switch
Bran Wisps (1968-circa 1970): Thin, crispy, light, toasted bran "curls". This cereal was released almost two decades before "bran mania" swept across the U.S., as General Mills believed that Americans desired more "easily digestible cereals"
This baby is not chipped! Trying to find her owner, but will need a foster in the NYC area (can’t have her in my apartment, already at the pet limit). She’s around 4 to 5 years old, staffy mix (I think with pug). A little skittish, but very sweet and silly.
Please signal boost!
i've been hearing ads for a digital trading card speculation gambling platform/app. you can open real pokemon cards... on your phone...
so i assume the scalpers who are losing money on pokemon cards are trying to offload that onto some new rubes. it's starting to resemble a pyramid
"Why don't you go to the bathroom in more survival games?" is a joke that came up during our podcast over the summer. I reached out to developers about it, and their answers were complicated and fascinating, from spiraling design issues to the deeper meaning behind where to put the toilet
Mr. Rogers calling it back before the new millennium, and still so right. From Episode 1746 "When Things Get Broken"
"You're a living human being! And a computer is just a machine. Human beings are far more wonderful than machines."
anthropic's exploding lol
it went public, we find out the company's debts are like $650 billion dollars. It's valuation was based on like a ton of IOUs.
a week ago those IOU holders were selling them off.
in china right now, the bubble is very much popping and $450 billion vanished overnight.
hm
Organized fandoms act as volunteer pinkertons, and while the creeps enforcing fascist visions are in actuality a tiny minority of most fandoms, loving a of particular franchise/character produces a political ambivalence that often leans towards compliance with corporate aims over artistic ones
In my book I argue that IP fandoms are a crucial part of the economic model of the current media monopoly landscape, as fan campaigns drive down the value of creative labor via harassment and disposability, scare artists from taking risks with IP, and give execs a direct fan base all their own
I think a lot could be said about how fandoms are very much structured to be consumerist without any critical analysis of capitalist production, and how this is the logical end result of that.
i took down my old post because of a spelling error, which is less embarrassing than losing the election and immediately having your passport confiscated because you are being prosecuted for massive corruption.
i hope Jair and Flavio grow old together in whatever prison hospital has the worst food
*Long sigh*
Yeah it seems like this is exactly what's up, actually. This new "NaNoWriMo" 2.0 is AI all the way.
prowritingaid.com/novel-november
Their website tries *real* hard not to mention AI, but then you catch stuff like, "...ran it through Plot Analysis" and yeah that's kind of a giveaway.
So, wait, has NaNoWriMo rebranded as "Novel November", paid for by ProWritingAid, which used to be a spell/grammar checker but now is (you guessed it) an "'AI' grammar checker"--in short, yet another way for a griftslop machine to grab human-written text?
Do I have that right?
We published this story late Friday afternoon amid an avalanche of news so I’m reposting it now because Kohen Wiley’s life mattered more than a box of diapers.
sorry i need to publicly be a hater for a second but what do you mean the giant 230k+ signature save mass effect petition is only about the IP and not the devs that were laid off
i am inviting anyone from a legacy media organization to explain to me why the house judiciary dems report on trump’s epstein’s ties and multiple allegations of rape isn’t worthy of extensively reporting on. i’m serious. i want to understand.
Also the US has never had free & fair elections for everyone, and if this is your first time worrying about it, welcome to the party! Fortunately lots of people have been here for decades and know what to do, if you are ready to listen!
correct
states further down the path of autocracy than us have had those autocracies overthrown by sufficiently large voting numbers recently
we can do it here too
Every few weeks some cynical edgelord who wants to feel More Sophisticated And Leftist than I am will tell me that I've seen the last free & fair election in this country, and my sweet summer child. We have not even seen the first yet.
A lot of people need to slow down and acknowledge to themselves that they're afraid, and this is affecting how they are interacting with other people. You have to acknowledge the reality of your feelings, or you won't control how they shape your behavior.
Not everyone should be satisfied with what's on offer right now. There has to be a bigger horizon than what anyone's going to get out of the midterms. Stop telling people to shut up about their rights. It helps no one. Do your work, whatever that is right now.
Last week, my 287(g) program report was highlighted by @poynterinstitute.bsky.social as one of several new tools available to journalists in need of timely data re: immigration enforcement and ICE's expanded operations.
www.poynter.org/reporting-ed...
I cringe posting about the media references to my own report. But my point is to stress how vulnerable this entire ethnic cleansing campaign really is: I'm just a random guy with a laptop in Chicago, who created a report that helps map and shine light on the violence and corruption.
Meanwhile, a guy with a laptop in Chicago is able to produce an interactive, visual report that cleans up ICE's messy data for public use...in between daycare pickups and taking my dog for a walk.
Here is an example of how effective this campaign was on educating people about the social media algorithm.
The account in the print is not related to Janones, but it is following what he taught us over the past 2 weeks. Only two weeks. Organizing online is key.
Translation in the ALT
After the first round elections, Congressman André Janones created a WhatsApp channel titled “Lula’s Army.” It ballooned to 10 million people following his commands on how to behave online to counteract Meta’s far-right-favouring algorithms. The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too.
I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
If James Talarico loses next month blame it all on me. I live in New York and have nothing to do with Texas, but I have ignored his what I estimate is approximately 433 texts asking me for money. So.
We saw reports of "machines switching votes" in TN & TX. These are typically real issues — a calibration problem w/ older touchscreen machines — but not intentional efforts to rig the vote. Always good for voters to check that their vote is being recorded correctly. www.cip.uw.edu/2026/10/22/e...
In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.
generally speaking posting "mods, we're losing, send the cia to help me out please :(" is one of those things you want to keep implied rather than on your main feed
We won not only against Bolsonaro, but against the full force of the USian's Big Techs, Meta, CIA, Trump, the Brazilian right-wing elites, the billionaires' press and more.
What is true is that this was a conflict—and make no mistake, this was a conflict; this was a protracted battle in a hybrid war, more than anything—that was largely fought by large numbers of people laboriously working to unfuck the nation's informational environment.
