It is funny that the only Jewish state in the world has like a party for every thirty citizens and is chronically incapable of forming a government

I once went on a business trip to Vegas with a colleague who had a Ph.D. in near eastern archaeology. She walked around Caesar's Palace, pointed to each statue, and told us which emperor it was and what museum the original is in. Trump's White House is definitely a discount version.

As much as people may hate Uber and Lyft, they are a godsend for people with disabilities that mean no driving. Taxis and paratransit were and are extremely poor substitutes in most places. Shame they're so expensive.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

"But the AI CEOs are hucksters--" IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER. They're not the only ones developing this technology! You think Sam Altman personally controls AI? much of this shit is open source and being spun up by people you've never heard of (and never will) and it can do shit like this!

This is what I need denialists to understand: the AI evangelists' wildest fever dreams (sentience, the singularity, whatever-the-fuck) don't need to be real for the tech to be hugely consequential. A machine gun doesn't need to be superintelligent.

5th circuit rules switch blades are “arms” and therefore under the 2nd ammendment can not be regulated. Next will be RPGs, tanks, flame throwers, and finally … nukes.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

“You’re a piece of sh*t. You’re a scumbag. Those words are worthy here.” The usually mild-mannered Chuck Todd GOES OFF on Vivek Ramaswamy. More than just venting, he also gets at a very important point: These disgusting tactics will prevent good people from entering politics in the future.

Anyway, I was gone at this point but from the outside it always felt like The Powers That Be wouldn't let the last Mass Effect games and final Dragon Age to really focus on what made those IPs great: namely good story and highly f*ckable companion characters.

I just figured out why Steam Next Fest is recommending a ton of match-3 and puzzle combat games to me. Ever since I implemented Steam achievement support in Torment Hexus, my Steam client thinks that I am playing Torment Hexus whenever I launch the editor. Consequently, my playtime is, uh, high.

This is one thing that bugs me. There's a lot of mistakes out there that are actually too stupid for LLMs to make. This is one of them.

We have to think about collapsing Trump poll numbers and Rs turning on him the same way we'd think about finally being able to corner a rabid raccoon in your garage. Good news: he's out of options. Bad news: he's a rabid raccoon.

😳 Trump loses it and SNAPS at a string of reporters, says Ilhan Omar might "go to jail," calls Somalia "a shit house," and boasts that thanks to a new program he announced today Americans "will make millions of dollars by turning others in" during absolutely deranged Oval Office event Supercut:

144. Onion Honey - Hell or High Water I was wondering if anyone had written a shanty about the Carpathia's heroic efforts, thinking I'd have to do it myself if no-one had yet INCREDIBLY glad to say I've been beaten to the punch by a year. A musical retelling of the tumblr post done extremely well!

I'm just stunned about everything about this. Vivek is making an extremely ugly family issue (Acton was the victim of child rape) a political issue to try to capture voters estranged by their children. Words fail as to how unutterably evil this is.

The big issue is ERISA was set up around a 1960s auto plant vision of what “employee plans” are. The big worry was embezzlement and underfunding of pensions. Health care plans were tacked on. ERISA makes Department of Labor ultimate regulator of most health plans.

Every explanation of anarchism I hear is like "what if small town but on steroids." Like I escaped rural America on purpose.

love it when anarchists say this because most "local community" councils irl in places like new england or small rural towns are typically deeply *right wing* and hate immigrants and queer people despite representing a "broad swathe" of the entire population. leftism is supposed to be COSMOPOLITAN.

Worth keeping in mind that conspiratorial thinking will absolutely destroy your ability to understand the world and your place in it, even if you are on the right side of things, or even sometimes wind up being right. Demand evidence for your beliefs and don't just go on vibes, I'm begging you.

one surprise from the video is that a good number of people are pretty sympathetic to the idea that trump staged his ear shooting. feels like a lot to me. and the only evidence provided is that he doesn't have a big scar, when I feel like he coulda just been nicked by the bullet

In 2011, I presented on students w/ criminal records & campus crime to a conference of university chiefs/LEOs. I made an offhand remark that if universities were actually serious about relationship & sexual violence, they'd ban frats. One said, "We would if we could," & every other chief agreed.

Nicole Bedera@nbedera.bsky.social

We’ve seen schools do this before. If this one-year party suspension doesn’t turn into a permanent ban, then it’s just a message to fraternities that they have true impunity. That even the worst, most violent behavior will result in a temporary slap on the wrist.

I wouldn't be surprised. It's weird how for a teetotaler, Trump's second administration is staffed with hard core alcoholics of the variety that would make a frat house hold an intervention.

Yeah. In truth it’s a party issue not a counsel issue; where the real party in interest is genuinely the U.S., DOJ is fine. When the litigant, in truth, is Donald J. Trump either by name or by proxy, they’re kookoo bananapants.
