With just six half-hour episodes, POLICE SQUAD remains, pound for pound, the single funniest television program ever produced.

Daniel Fienberg @thefienprint.bsky.social

Huh. "Police Squad!" is coming to Netflix on November 1. That's another of those shows that has either never or almost never been streaming anywhere.

Teachers don’t beat children in school anymore.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

We've added a way to use our Magic series plugins as a hands on tool in your performance! It's really a lot of fun. Check out the short demo video 😘

Update for Free gs-dsp.com/dow... With this update you are receiving an all new way to interact with your Magic Plugins. Our Spectral curves can now be manipulated in fun and intuitive way. Jam with Magic Pitch, Filter, Blur, Fusion and Delay.

I have this theory that so many ok-but-not-great shows on Netflix would be really good if only they were animated shows instead. Watching “Below” right now and animation would allow your brain to stop questioning the plot holes and inconsistent behaviours of so many characters.

I do think philosophy as a discipline has dramatically underperformed at answering the question “When would an artificial system qualify as conscious?” Should have nailed that one long before it became a practical issue.

Reuben Binns@rdbinns.bsky.social

While I do think much current talk of AI consciousness is deranged, possibly AI psychosis-induced, I also don't think philosophers have a robust basis to decisively debunk it either. This paper 'On Cheap Artificial Consciousness' lays out a good case for why that is: philpapers.org/archive/MICO...

One month in Damascus: a few field notes outside my usual research Observation 1: Traffic is the ultimate hazard. Pedestrian crossings are mostly ornamental, demanding often an assertive hand-raise just to claim the right-of-way, while motorbikes darting down sidewalks keep you on your toes.

Every time a discourse kicks off over whether AI music, literature or art will be "as good as" the real thing, I'm always amazed more people don't cite that **there already are** creative pursuits where human-free spectacles have been available for decades, and nobody has ever wanted to watch them.

You don't have an inalienable right to be an antisocial dipshit because you're doomscrolling all day and it makes you feel terrible. There are no qualifiers to this. You are not released from the obligation to try to be decent just because Elon Musk is lighting the world on fire.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Dunno if this is weird or normal, but I don't understand artists or authors who have enough money to never work again who are hardcore about policing their IP rights. For me, IP law is purely a financial protection mechanism. If you blopped $10M on me tomorrow, I'd rights-free everything I've done.

David Heinemeier Hansson called for the extermination of Romani people, comparing them to animals. An entire roster of tech tycoons responded by each personally giving him $1 million for his open source software project, even though he’s already wealthy enough to have a personal race car team.

A song which would a) launch this British hip hop group into the pop charts, but also b) inspire Massive Attack to expand their live show from just decks and a microphone after seeing Stereo MCs perform live

Apparently ChatGPT Astra-6 beat Rimworld and Portal, and I for one am excited to think finally AI can play the video games, which will free us up for additional Toil.
