Paying 47% on every dollar she earns *over the first $190k* which is frankly a lovely problem to have and you also probably should get a better accountant.

Understanding the way that overall societal productivity also drives up wages for non-automated jobs is hard, so I can see why an organic farmer/artisanal woodworker/etc might falsely believe they live off their own productivity, but this person is a fucking professional Instagram influencer

It has lower gross debt than nearly any developed country and an AA credit rating. Can we have some serious commentary please.

Victoria’s debt gets a lot of bad press. But the state has made progress in repairing its finances, and in some other states, debt is now growing much faster.

Interesting that the Mike Burgess comments and the ASIO report are very similar to what extremism researchers in Australia were saying the apparatus was ignoring five years ago. Very interesting!

This is a good primer on Israel's political situation going into tomorrow's election. But I'd like to go deeper on something he only touches on, which is that part of the reason for Israel's electoral doldrums (and resulting geopolitical chaos) is its broken political system bsky.app/profile/avis...

would love to see y'all dig into how this was won, for english-speaking audience. the past weeks of mass mobilization there has been insane, millions of people on a single whatsapp group coordinating flipping votes 1 by 1, coordinated hijacking of rightwing lingo to get around meta censorship, wild!

So how did Lula come from behind to defeat Bolsonaro? In short, turnout. Bolsonaro's vote share barely moved. But Lula banked millions of votes from those who didn't vote in the first round & won eliminated candidates' votes. A remarkable mobilisation. Second round turnout is usually below first.

Rather than recalculate these, Labor passed new legislation to retrospectively validate debts they had already conceded were illegal. Now people are having to go back decades to find evidence with which to defend themselves. This is beyond indefensible. Spitting in the faces of Robodebt victims.
