I don’t care what side of the aisle you’re on, nobody should support this kind of deception. They created a fake pamphlet to spark trans outrage and sent it to every home in Texas. Then their paid shills continued the outrage on social media. Politics is broken.

Laura Bassett@lebassett.bsky.social

Team Paxton appears to have sent out fake mailers to Texas voters impersonating a trans student group and claiming to want to help kids secretly transition. The actual group said they had nothing to do with it, despite the mailers copying their aesthetic, and the address traces to a random UPS box.

Kinda wild that there have been wild protests going on in Albania for months set off by a corrupt Kushner luxury resort project and there has been barely coverage of it here 🇺🇸 and Trump never gets asked about it.

I’m genuinely curious if the MAGA elite really believe the bull shit they spew?

Being a Falcons fan is hard. The anxiety of being ahead and winning was really unnerving the last few weeks. The anxiety of being ahead and watching it slip from our fingers this week feels more familiar. Less scary yet far worse.

Our Democracy Book Club choice for October, On Tyranny, outlines 20 lessons from the twentieth century on how to spot and combat authoritarianism. Which one most resonates with you? #booksky

I note how Christian Nationalists, who think the public execution of Jesus was the most horrific thing humans ever did, are giddy at the prospect of getting to watch a public execution on live streaming—being so “pro-life” and all . . .

The American white collar workforce started working from home three days a week for like six months a year into COVID and executives so thoroughly lost their minds over this that they installed Trump II. If anything, AI will create the 7-day workweek.

Can you imagine any other...ah, nevermind. Should be leading news for a week, a month, a day? But, nah, nothing. The President of the United States openly talking about taking out major American cities and the millions that live in them.

Trump: "With the war, it's just artificial. It's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay ... let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."

An important Bijan Robinson fact is that I asked him at his draft what show he was binge watching and he said THE MARVELOUS MS MAISEL. I think of this often.

I love this idea! On Tyranny is such a good, clear, short book to begin with.

We're excited to announce the launch of Democracy Book Club! We're a monthly book club, connecting in person and via our community app, for individuals who care about democracy. Our October book is On Tyranny. www.democracybookclub.org <-- sign up to join!

I’ve resisted rewatching my old favorites, as too many have been ruined with 2026 glasses. 10 Things I Hate About You holds up. Just as good as it ever was. And I think I created my entire adult persona on Kat.

Thank you. That very much felt like two people who were told what they could and couldn’t say. They knew they were 💯 in the wrong with every word. But like 95% of men, they went along with it anyways.

Straight up: As a woman in football, this sucks to listen to. This week in particular.

Bush v Gore was the only decision Justice Sandra Day O’Connor ever regretted. It was the match strike. Citizens United was the fuse. Explosion is imminent.

Mrs. Betty Bowers@mrsbettybowers.bsky.social

Subverting democracy isn't new to John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, or Amy Coney Barrett. All three were on George W. Bush's "Florida Recount Team," which lay the groundwork for stopping vote counting in Florida—and Bush v. Gore, the politically-motivated SCOTUS decision that gave Bush the election.

🧑‍🌾 🐄 “Life on the farm is stressful… the help situation isn’t getting better… why should we keep going?” A dairy farmer who voted for anti-immigrant Trump complains she can’t find workers — then lashes out when the internet calls her out for voting against her own interests.

As a Falcons fan, I’m obviously sad and annoyed. But now I don’t have to wait till wk 7 to know we’re doomed. Let’s just get the shittiness out of the way. Find a recently retired QB ready to prove themselves. Let’s win another 7 games and sink our chances at a top 10 draft pick.

Don't be fooled into thinking that a "free market" only exists when corporations get to "self-regulate" and do whatever they want. And don't be led to think that the government is "intruding" into the market when it crafts laws to protect the public. The real issue is power — and who has it.

If a news organization does not cover this as a clear case of: “president Trump tells story of 9/11 that glorifies himself but has no basis in fact” they are not worth listening to. Yes, I’m talking about you, @nytimes.com

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump on 9/11: "I just thank my people. I was building a big building in New York & I took the whole crew down there right after this happened & they had no hesitation. Everybody went down with me... we thought it was coming down on top of us... two fireman lifted me up and started running with me"

Friday morning, I was gardening when I checked my phone. A request had gone out for help. For 25+ hours, ICE had been laying siege to a quiet neighborhood in Frederick, MD. Community members were afraid, some didn’t want to leave their homes. ICE vehicles seemed to be lurking on every corner.

My household makes decent money. Part way through the year we get another $500/paycheck bump when we stop paying social security. As nice as that is, I do not understand how we get a break whereas people making less money don’t.

And the Trump-supporting Talibangelicals would automatically reject it just to “own a Lib.” They’d rather have family members suffer or die than give up on their unintelligent, thieving, child-raping idol.

Every time a non-white woman in Dem politics delivers a less-than-pitch-perfect line—if they even briefly hesitate while speaking off-the-cuff about a nuanced issue—it becomes a major story about their intelligence, and meanwhile every single Trump appointee talks like this all day long.

Bill Kuchman@billkuchman.bsky.social

This sounded especially bizarre to me. So I looked it up. Duffy seems to have confused the EPA ending a credit for “engines that automatically turn off when vehicles come to a complete stop and restart when drivers take their feet off the brake pedal” with the START buttons that are now universal.

Ships traveling between the upper Great Lakes and the Atlantic must pass through Canada’s Welland Canal. The 27-mile canal and all eight of its locks are entirely in Ontario, meaning a strategically important portion of U.S. Great Lakes maritime trade depends on Canadian-controlled infrastructure.

While I like the thought behind this, do we really think anyone believes Paxton isn’t a criminal?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

MS NOW: "The Talarico campaign is filing a legal motion to unseal two depositions Ken Paxton gave in 2019 and 2022. A source tells MS NOW the Talarico campaign has reason to believe Paxton admitted to crimes in those depositions."
