Note that propranolol is a beta blocker. Drops your blood pressure, slows your heart. If you're on other blood pressure meds it can fuck you up very badly indeed. It's prescription-only for a reason. It is NOT an anxiolytic, people really need better monitored access to BZPs (the 1990s moral panic).

This was my closing statement. The GOP have held our general assembly for 15 years. People are pissed.

We have 19 days left. Last night I got to make my pitch for why I want to be the next state senator for NC District 25. Early voting started today. I’m doing this, because I believe in us. #southey4senate #ncpol

I attended a forum two weeks ago against my Republican opponent for NC Senate District 25. One person in attendance said it had been forty years since they had witnessed the two candidates actually appear together for a debate/forum. The energy is here this cycle and it's going to be wild.

I was in NC this weekend, and it's clear the NC GOP is nervous. 90% of the ads on TV were strident attack ads focused on state house races.

yknow i would not have expected, given the trajectory we were on at the time, for them "Barb-" part rather than the "-enhimer" one to be the thing we evolved into, but a world where the mascs just get to bop around with toys and horses and pretty cars and don't have to think anymore sounds dope

look i support women having the sole right to hold elected office as long as men gain an equivalent unique civil right (the freedom to call each other "big guy" and "my man")

Look, I'm an evolutionary physiologist, ok? I believe in biology, not this sentimental feminist claptrap. Women are biologically optimized to be nurturers. They run households, they don't fight lions. That's why they're the only ones we can trust to govern our complex, industrialized civilization.

I don't know that there is a definitive line to cross that makes you say, "I live in a police state now" but when masked gunmen can routinely brutalize the public, citizen or immigrant alike, with impunity, you have reached that point.

So much to say about Brazil, not least of which is the role that Erika Hilton, a Black trans leader and most voted woman politician in Brazil, played in mobilizing folks for Lula. She was behind the critical, concrete, economic promise of shorter work-week. theprint.in/feature/erik...

One of the oddest parts of Reflect Orbtial’s schtick is its claim of “substantive discussions” with scientists and astronomers. Basically zero evidence of this or it having an impact thus far.

There is an international, well-connected network of fascists promoting far-right candidates in elections (and coups) across the world. The guy who owns the site Yglesias posted this on is one of their leaders. Be careful of people advocating for their opponents to disarm!

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

No. This is dooming for nothing. Lula *did* end up cruising to re-election, it was called an hour after polls closed. The fact that he managed to pull that off when everything was pointing to a Bolsanaro win is not terrifying, it's inspiring. Stop looking at things through the worst possible lens.

you know how there are literature and journalism prizes? i propose that we introduce a system of literature and journalism demerits. if you do bad gonzo journalism that turns you into a mouthpiece for big tech it should earn your book a demerit that appears on the cover like prize stickers do
