my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite

Let's fill bluesky with spooky art 💀 QRP with a spooky piece! Was kinda hard to find a properly spooky one, I feel most of mine are at least kinda cute 😅 (Piece from Drawloween 2024)

Going to see Dracula tonight! I really do love the Dracula ballet because it's so distinctly someone's AU Dracula fanfiction. In fact, Dracula himself might be the fic author.

Looking for game devs who have been directly inspired by anything BioWare for my next video. I suspect the public likely doesn’t quite realize the extent of their influence on the industry, so I’d really like to highlight that. If you are one such game devs, pls reply to this post!

As we approach the midterms, remember that the Alt National Park Service is a merch sales operation claiming without evidence to be a group of federal employees, and is not a genuine source of news about elections of any kind. Please get your election info from a local, reputable source.

When I was 15 I would sit with Dragon Age: Origins and save before every big dialogue. I would replay them over and over and physically write out the trees. I didn’t know at that point that writing or narrative design was even a job I could have. They had such an enormous impact as a studio.

BREAKING: Electronic Arts is cutting 400 jobs and shutting down BioWare, the legendary development studio behind Dragon Age and Mass Effect. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

I got my start in my career as Insomniac's very first design intern way back in the day, and I think it's been one of the consistently best game internship programs out there!

Nick Folkman@nickfolkman.bsky.social

Applications for Insomniac's summer intern program are now live (including for a story intern)! Come get direct hands-on experience working alongside our devs on the (imo) pretty exciting stuff we're making now! insomniac.games/careers/

These were three individual pieces I did in 2021. Unplanned, they became something of an accidental sequence. They then prompted me to make the piece in the quoted post, of the pumpkin dance, by way of a conclusion. Ink on Fabriano Medioevalis, each 95 × 64 mm.

Also, from a library worker, those checkouts help us keep our funding. So checking stuff out is one of the easiest ways to help us out!

Co-signed! That’s what libraries are for, and they do pay us! Never apologize!

Tom Cox@dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social

Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

seems plausible that in the short term, people are not going to use a janky Adobe clone en masse in a way that fundamentally alters things. But people using AI KoolAid-manning into open source hobby coding communities and destroying them — I think that's already happened and going to get worse

Been playing this cooperative game my entire adult life. Rules are pretty simple though rounds can seem to take FOREVER and, wow, does it have a troll problem right now. Still, was excited to take my turn today. Hoping we can still win if we work together!

"You couldn't make a Mel Brooks movie today!" Of course not, nobody would give a Jewish veteran with a controversial Black comedian co-writer, both of whom have overt anti-fascist politics in their acts, a budget to make a parody of a genre nobody watches anymore.

reported on something that was really difficult for a lot of people for a lot of different reasons in a lot of different ways.

Kotaku@kotaku.com

Back in May, Double Fine employees petitioned for a union. Two weeks later, that petition was withdrawn. What happened? https://kotaku.com/inside-the-failed-fight-to-unionize-one-of-gamings-most-idealized-studios-2000742755

Making my bed first thing every morning became so much easier when I realized that "making your bed" can literally just mean "pull the blanket up." Still get the mental benefits!
