It has been very disconcerting to be part of the “business class” and also a supporter of the rule of law as applied to markets because equal protection makes everyone more wealth while Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and other crooks destroy that rule of law and collapse the American economy.

sorry to ruin your fun but his whole stoner nice guy routine is an act. Scooby's not even his real name, it's Gideon, and the only reason he can doss about in a mystery van is because his family, the D'Oubay-Doux, made a fortune in the East India Company in the 1700s. educate yourself.

Ok, slightly conspiracy-ish but their whole bleating about AI's "existential risks" is a misdirect to get AI regulations to focus on idk ending humanity or whatever and not copyright and human responsibility for chatbots telling people to kill themselves etc.

Brian Merchant@bcmerchant.bsky.social

Anthropic is trying to write its own federal AI regulation law. The major AI firms have all issued feeble proposals for how their AI will serve the public, in anticipation of their pending IPOs. It's all a reminder that we cannot, any under circumstances, let AI firms govern the future.

Would love to talk with editors from 1998 and ask them: If Congress dropped a 50-page report detailing, with witnesses on the record, that President Clinton raped women, would you put it on the front page?

Whether it's Elon Musk cutting off the Starlink access that protects Ukrainians from Russian missiles or Ukraine cutting off Russian bot servers that give Elon his X likes and retweets, both sides have escalated a deadly feud.

Insane that we're just over a week away from midterms and this isn't the lead story on every single U.S. news outlet. The zone is so flooded.

Beyond disgusted by even more rape allegations against the President of the United States. "In total, more than 25 different women...have independently accused Donald Trump of rape, sexual assault, or other sexual misconduct." Report w/ new details: democrats-judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-su...

Reading thru an ex-Google exec's deposition unsealed last night, these excerpts stopped me cold. Brings questions of IAB's independence, especially given its silence on Google's antitrust violations. And little hope it'll speak up about Meta's sweeping new commercial terms. 1/2

The shift away from the US continues. Ten countries have now signed on for Macron’s Forward Deterrence initiative, including the UK, Germany and Poland, WSJ reports. Under the plan, France would station nuclear-capable fighter jets across Europe as trust in the US erodes.

Despite the significant investments ploughed into artificial intelligence it has provided “zero payoff” to corporate America outside of technology, according to Apollo's Chief Economist Torsten Slok. Read more: bloom.bg/3UO2c30 📷: Victor J. Blue/Bloomberg

Just come across this quote from Oliver Stone “When you look at a movie, what you are looking at essentially I think is a director’s thought process, and when the film becomes tedious that’s because the director’s thought process is becoming tedious.”

Starting Monday, no BYD car gets through the gates at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. Not personal cars, not taxis, not delivery vans. The concern: cameras and sensors in modern EVs could collect data on the base. defence-blog.com/u-s-air-base...

I’m convinced that AI is a bubble. But I’m also convinced that a shitload of comparatively recently adopted tech that we think of as normal is also a bubble. None of it has been costed as a business, just as speculative investment. Stuff we think we rely on. I’m not sure it’s all going to last.

The defensiveness of AI boosters over calling this morally reprehensible is remarkable, they really do not like it when anyone has any kind of principles or when they care about something lol

As I said earlier on Yahoo Finance, Jensen Huang is channel stuffing to pump NVIDIA's revenues, forcing GPUs on customers months in advance and making everything more expensive for everyone. It's morally reprehensible. finance.yahoo.com/video/spacex...

Small ironies. Arnold Schwarzenegger was the first to congratulate David Cameron (a bit prematurely) on election night 2010. He liked his Steve Hilton-influenced liberal conservatism. In 2026 Arnie has pointedly not endorsed Steve Hilton, now a maniac, for Governor of California.

An insight into the limited vocabulary of Whitehall press offices.. and the inability to think properly about regulation.. .that a govt that talks about “ending 40 years of neoliberalism” also reverts back to old tropes about “slashing red tape”

So Anthropic lost $80billion in six months. How insane is that?. Well it makes it the fifth biggest company loss in history. In only six months. It’s also bigger than the Irish bank bailout €64billion.
