"So it's the, it's the ballot or the bullet. Today, our people can see that we're faced with a government conspiracy. This government has failed us. The senators who are filibustering concerning your and my rights, that's the government." - Malcolm X

You ask us to be good people, while giving a pass to health care companies who profit off human suffering? Their actions cause deaths and they should be held accountable. Tens of thousands of Americans die every year due to lack of health insurance; about 1/2 the number who die due to homicide.

I never said it was, but asked you to consider that our health care system is also "cold blooded killing" about 110 Americans every single day, as surely as if they shot them in the back...except they allowed them to suffer first.

Daniel Perry was acquitted for murdering Jordan Neely, a homeless, mentally ill, Black man. Neely was a victim of a failed healthcare system. We free Perry's murderer to kill again when the mood strikes him. Luigi will be punished because he chose to kill a 'somebody' instead of a 'nobody'.

True - and yet….. our healthcare insurance co. & big pharma are cold blooded killers too - responsible for far more death than Luigi. He knew he was sacrificing his own life, trying to bring this issue to light. Our government has done absolutely nothing to fix it. It’s reached despairing levels.

Hey Adam, do you shed tears for murdered human traffickers? Do you shed tears for murdered fentanyl traffickers? Just curious how far your moral outrage over ‘cold blooded murder’ extends… This privileged white man is no different from a human trafficker: they both profit from human suffering.

The 1% is pushing the other 99% too far. Trump will accelerate this. We have 300 million guns in America, we have 150 million seriously pissed off people. Class Warfare is not coming, it is already here. This episode was merely a flirtatious prologue.

The thing is Adam people are fed up with the health care systems we have in place and you guys aren’t seeming to get that. UHC has caused thousands of deaths and mass amount of suffering due to their policies in place. You cannot deny that. He shouldn’t have murdered this man but no one will listen

I agree with you. This young man threw his life away and for what? The gop and the insurance lobby will never allow changes to the insurance industry. The chatter will stop eventually and the insurance industry will go on collecting its massive profits.

It’s not just healthcare. It’s the elite corporations that raise prices on groceries higher than they need to be and other elite that just ran us through the coals. #ClassWar

They are insulated from liability which is a huge part of the problem and why they get away with it. They don’t say they are denying, they say they just aren’t approving and MD’s can appeal the decision but many MD’s don’t have the time or resources to go through multiple levels of appeal.

I was thinking, law enforcement can seize the assets of individuals accused of committing crimes. Since corporations are considered people in the eyes of the law, can law enforcement seize the corporate assets if the corporation is accused of committing crimes.

The government can become the board of directors and run the industry seized but no dividends would be paid out until the matter is settled in a court of law. The company would not be able to use seized assets to pay for lawyers. Just thinking.

No , sometimes the enemy of your enemy is not your friend . In fact it's rarely true. This guy hates trump , yay , he is against murder yay. But he supports supplying 2000lb unguided bombs dropped on kids and of course the brutal systematic torture. Just don't mess with his shares 😶

How bold of you to say absolutely nothing. Yeah, I know he murdered someone in cold blood... I saw the tape. Yeah, I know he is going to rot in jail forever... that's why I didn't want him to get caught.

He is a symptom of the disease that is killing society. A lot of us have been out here trying to create a more just and equitable society. Trying to reduce gun violence. And there are a lot of people who want a more unjust and inequitable society.

People who want everyone to have easy access to guns. People who worship violence as a means to an end. Guess what? We all live (and die) in the society and the world we create for ourselves.

I would never have known just how cold-blooded, unethical, and corrupt United Healthcare Group is had Luigi not murdered this corrupt CEO. Murder is bad. But now, as I figure out which Medicare plan to choose for the very first time, I can very confidently scratch UHC off the list. Silver lining!

So he should But these are Trumpian times, anarchic conduct can be celebrated, and convictions can be difficult to obtain Will a NY jury convict? I hope so, but don’t ask me to put a $1000 bet on it, given the reactions I’ve read Hatred of insurers is rampant

I suspect he will do time but if there are medical/psych issues, that could mitigate the charges. I’m really struck by the level of anger in the electorate when it comes to corporate greed. Time for the billionaire class to take notice and review the history of the French Revolution.

The only redeeming sort of quality this gentleman has, is bringing forward the issue with UHC and their practices. Ammunition for the rest of us to fight back against AI controlled denial of claims. I want someone at United healthcare held accountable for the deaths their denials have caused.

I’m sure he once had a lot of redeeming qualities. I feel bad the system causes someone who apparently had it all, to turn toward violence to make a point. But insurance companies auto generated letters of denial are maddening. Chronic pain can make one crazy in the brain.

The social murderers have escaped real justice for too long so we take what we can get

Mr. Bees@workers.bsky.social

Social murder is committed by the political and social elite where they knowingly permit conditions to exist where the poorest and most vulnerable in society are deprived of the necessities of life & … will inevitably meet an early and unnatural death.

it is bad policy, and dangerous. But if institutions are absolutely unwilling to address the problem, (and they are not), because those whose job it is to fix the problem are corrupt, sooner or later violence becomes the only road to justice.

The U.S. is so broken that millions of Americans have been paying for medical insurance that will use AI to auto reject life saving treatment, and we have been ignored to the point of not denouncing an act of violence that has finally brought our oppression to light.

Compromise: convict and imprison Mangione for his murder, but ONLY after every single family wrongfully impacted by UnitedHealthcare is fairly compensated, and their model is permanently changed to a pro-consumer one instead of for-profit

Well, yeah, obviously federal universal healthcare would be objectively the best decision to make, but I have less than zero faith in the US being able to pass that in the coming decades so might as well just kneecap this one corporation’s ability to profit off of human suffering, if possible

I remember vividly...long ago while living in Az when Meecham was gov of Az and Az did not participate in Medicaid. An elderly woman in a nursing facility, when her funds ran out, was thrown out onto the sidewalk in 100° heat like trash where she died a horrible death alone.

Also, while living in Az with my mom, she had 3 strokes in her early 50's. 2nd was pre existing so not covered. No Medicaid, too young for Medicare. Called state for help. They had a $200 mo cut off and me helping her was $. Was told to throw her out and reapply in 3 months.

agree he is a murderer. But it still begs the question: What is it called when an insurance company knowingly denies care that they know, or have been advised by a doctor, is a life saving or life lengthening treatment? Capitalism?

Maybe we should save our thoughts for the countless victims of withheld medical treatment, rather than for a man directly responsible for said countless and avoidable deaths, and deaths at that caused solely to boost already obscene profits..

I know you are making sick rape jokes but he probably will be popular in prison. The crime he committed will likely be celebrated and he seems personable and nice to be around.

Lol I was right

Phil Lewis@phillewis.bsky.social

Luigi Mangione’s fellow prisoners yelled “Luigi’s conditions suck” and “Free Luigi” from their cells in Pennsylvania during an interview: www.newsnationnow.com/banfield/lui...

Why do I get the feeling the upcoming court appearances will be filled with histrionics by the defendant that should embarrass those of you cheering him on…?

Denying coverage to people you know need coverage and can’t otherwise afford it is also murder. So, vigilante violence is wrong, but I feel more sadness for the lives lost to United Healthcare than I do for the CEO who profited from them. Call me old fashioned.

ho hum. I don't care anymore. We tried to work within the system, but the system works FOR the billionairs and against working people. so. I. DON'T. CARE

All jokes aside, it's really fucked up to see half of the country celebrating the re-election of a raping, traitorous, scumbag, POS traitor. But, you get over it and used to it. (At least that's what those assholes have been telling us) #FreeLuigi

To be honest, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night and it’s obvious he’s suffering from a complete mental breakdown as a result of the torturous medical claims process put in place by greedy sociopathic CEOs.

Why did you take a screen-cap and cut out the author, instead of just linking to the post? bsky.app/profile/stei...

Wild Geerters@steinkobbe.bsky.social

All jokes aside it's really fucked up to see so many people on here celebrating murder. No one here is the judge of who deserves to live or die. That's the job of the AI algorithm the insurance company designed to maximise profits on your health and no one else

To be fair basically what you are saying is that the rising costs of health care and CEO greed continued at the same pace as BEFORE ACA, unabated. And there were things in the original that might have changed that, but the Rep. Would not approve it with those conditions in place.

Yet the right wing media were celebrating and rejoicing the acquittal of the man who strangled a poor hungry man to death with his bare hands. All the while ranting for Luigi to rot in prison .The hypocrisy is what’s also wrong.

That’s what I mean, the media spins it any way they want, not true he’s a killer, the homeless man should have been taking to a hospital then a shelter not be killed , he’s indigent so no one cared like they do the Billionaire CEO. 😡

Cold blooded killers kill at random….,,not on principle. Did he break the law? Yes and he will pay for it but one thing is for sure….those CEO’s are finally taking notice. People are so done with them and their bottom line!

What about the role of shareholders of UHC? CEOs work to increase returns to the shareholders. I bet many condemning this CEO are unaware that they actually hold UHC in their mutual funds and have reaped the benefits of it. Pot calling the kettle.

Thank you for proving my greater point that ultimately the system is to blame and it needs to be dismantled in order to create a better world. Did you expect that to be a dunk or something?

🤬 Blame politicians for continuing to think healthcare delivery is appropriate for free markets (capitalism). It isn't! We must have govt healthcare. If CEOs allow unprofitable decisions - even for compassionate reasons! - they'll be sued by shareholders...and lose! Direct anger at Congress!

Who do you think is corrupting the politicians? It's the capitalists, getting mad at politicians is just being distracted by the middleman. To weed out a problem, you need to kill it at the roots

I agree the American political system is corrupted by money, but that is not an inherent characteristic of capitalism. Socialist and communist systems are far more corrupted by money. Keep demanding campaign finance reform and vote out "cronies." Democracy is hard.

Nobody is forced to be a CEO of a for-profit healthcare corporation. The obsession with profit and shareholder value above all other considerations is a national sickness, and saying 'blame this or that court or legislature!' is also a sickness.

America chooses capitalism. Welcome to the drive for profits and shareholder return. As I've said, capital markets should not deliver healthcare. Deep read why: Arrow, K. J. (1978). Uncertainty and the welfare economics of medical care. In Uncertainty in economics (pp. 345-375). Academic Press.

Yes, "business is the problem" because free (capital) markets cannot handle healthcare. See this: Arrow, K. J. (1978). Uncertainty and the welfare economics of medical care. In Uncertainty in economics (pp. 345-375). Academic Press. (free pdf w/ title search.) I agree Citizens United is a problem.

why are you arguing that assassins should be targeting politicians like Biden, Trump and prominent members of Congress? I sure hope the FBI doesn't see this when they do random word searches, for your sake.

Murder is appalling but so is the ridiculous amount of extra resources and money spent to find Luigi solely because he killed the elite class. If one of my children was murdered in Manhattan would there murder be investigated the same way?

This was a targeted hit, mob style. That doesn’t happen often today. Hunting down a person in daylight to whack them on the street for a particular reason would not happen to your daughter. It’s unacceptable and he should have gotten pursued till caught. Are you suggesting differently?

Adam, grow a brain, a dick, and a heart please. Do you know what it's like for people who don't have the healthcare that you and I are so lucky to get? Do you have ANY idea? If you had ANY idea Adam, you would have killed that mother fucker yourself.

So was Brian Thompson who will rot in hell forever. Do not condemn one without getting off your ass and doing something about the other. We need to know, Adam, how much blood money did you accept from the health insurance industry?

Meanwhile, the cold-blooded murderers on steroids are United Health Care and all the other insurance companies that are murdering their customers by refusing life-saving treatment while enriching their golden parachutes.

Corporations in America claim to have human rights, so they must also face human consequences. By law, what United Healthcare was doing is a human killing another human, thanks to the legal precedent of corporate personhood. That means civilians can step in and defend their victims. #freeluigi

Not true at all. The Nazis never created any kind of legal framework for mass murder. (This was in fact Wilhelm Stuckart's objection to plans for the Final Solution at the Wannsee Conference). It was entirely extra-legal.

This moment of privilege from AK gives me an idea - After TFG's re-election to office, we all now have a way out of jury duty: All you have to tell the judge is that after the Senate failed twice to convict him and with his re-election, you have vowed to acquit anyone accused of criminal activity.

You privileged mf If I were on his jury, I'd vote not to convict Exactly like the Senate GOP did - twice - with a felonious, raping traitor that shares your political party The GOP never again gets to lecture anyone about The Rule of Law Sit down and stfu rich boy

Congress voted the second time to impeach and not let him ever run for office again. Adam voted yes on the second impeachment. Mitch McConnell screwed up in the Senate.

praying mantis@gentlem.bsky.social

@thenewslizard.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2024/12/10/n... Mr. Hill: “A lot of people are judging him, not knowing him at all,” he said. “And it’s not right. That’s not him. It’s just a sad thing of what has happened and even more sad of what people have tried to turn him into.”

Rather than just criticizing Adam for his past #ACA votes (which feels a lot like X/Twitter style), I think it makes more sense to ask him: 1) if you were still in Congress, would you still vote to repeal it 2) what alternative would you propose replacing it with? GOP never proposed an alternative

Luigi is a symptom, not the cause. You refused to address the cause, along with every other GOP elected over the past 40 years, during your time in office. You can be anti-Trump and anti-Middle Class. They are mutually exclusive.

The health insurance 'industry' is a grift enabled by the government. I'm 60 - I've been out of work since 2020. My health insurance, minimal coverage, is $490 a month+ $6000 deductible. I just ran out of my retirement funds and got my SNAP card last week. I don't have much sympathy for that CEO.

If you read about his story in the WSJ this morning, it’s actually pretty sad. The guy clearly had a break with reality. His actions in the last year aren’t of those with a sound mind. It was a vicious and immoral act, of course, but it doesn’t make his story less depressing.

This is important. As someone who has been in extreme pain, I know that this is still not the natural outcome of that. Never mind that he was able to afford probably any treatment he wanted. This is a fucked up person and not a hero.

If the RNC paid his legal bills he too could be president. Now he’ll have to sell shitty sneakers and phony gold plated fake guns for prison $. 🤦🏻‍♂️

#ColdBloodedMurderers "On the 2021 phone call, which was recorded by the company, a nurse told her colleague that a doctor contracted by United to review the case had concluded that McNaughton’s treatment was 'not medically necessary.' Her colleague reacted to the news with a long laugh."

Teen Vogue@teenvogue.com

In the hours and days following UnitedHealthcare CEO’s Brian Thompson’s death, online opinion has become abundantly clear: Despite the brutal nature of the incident, Americans are angry over the difficulties experienced under the country’s current healthcare insurance system.

i’ve read this a few times. if it weren’t for his parents calling their bluff and hiring an attorney (something so many can’t do), this young adult would likely have died from so many complications due to his disease.

Victoria Kavanaugh is a god damn sociopath. Holy shit, could you imagine being this evil for like $200k a year. Theres a special place in hell for united hellthcare employees collecting blood money.

This was an absolutely horrifying story. I’m sure there are many more similar to this that haven’t been brought to light and where the victims didn’t fight back and their outcomes were quite grim. The Kavanaughs and insurance company doctors of our country must be replaced by people with ethics. 🥺

Absolutely. What you & everyone else is failing to see & talk about is that when the laws & protections of our society break down like they have been doing, Vigilante justice grows. People have lost faith in our legal system. They have lost faith in leadership as well. There will be more of this.

He is a hero. He risked his freedom, probably traded his life and took out a crooked person who betrayed his fellow man for money. Those of his ilk are running scared now. He is a hero. People like you who never fixed anything are part of the problem.

Imagine if they weren’t always distracting us with new ways to hate one another and we instead focused on the real enemies. Instead, desperate, people vote in billionaires that will wreck everything. We needed a populist leader—but we got Trump, a cult leader for a country with nowhere else to go

They have us too busy caring about non issues like trans people and shit so that they can keep sucking billions of dollars from people from people who need health care so they don't die. We really should all be on the same fucking side when it comes to health care and not getting fucked by corps
