VARNEY: 11 million people would lose their coverage because of the changes to Medicaid. That's gonna be a political problem for you, isn't it? MEHMET OZ: This is really a psychology question. If you're able-bodied and able to work, on average you're spending 6.1 hours a day just hanging out.

It’s not about people wanting to chill on the sofa. It’s about the ridiculous cost of healthcare in the US. I know people who can’t afford their company’s family healthcare plan and need Medicaid for their kids.

Umm... if you work a regular 40 hour a day work week, and you get 8 hours asleep ever night. Even with an hour commute to work 5 days a week, you still have 7.4 hours or so of "hanging out" time every day on average. (and who gets 8 hours asleep anymore!).

Also 6.1 hours a day, isn’t that just the time outside of a 9-5 job? Love how his first point is that statistics are made up by science people & then he uses a statistic to justify his argument

Exactly. The money is sent to the hospital or healthcare provider for services. If one of these "able-bodied" people on Medicaid is hurt at work or in a car accident, they will go to an ER, and if there is no Medicaid to pay for it, it most likely will just go unpaid

Republicans have been on every news outlet for the last six months telling us about these 35 million ineligible people receiving Medicaid and have not shown one single piece of proof. Time to stop lying and show the American people your evidence.

Is Oz this removed from reality? Most likely. People who have enough money to be secure and comfortable should never make decisions regarding those of us who do not. They have no frame of reference and don't care to find one.

The 2025 version of the “welfare queen” - the able-bodied person who’s just sitting around doing nothing, because they have that cushy government health insurance called Medicaid. I’m waiting for them to actually go find one of these mythical creatures-with no disabilities, no low paying job, etc.

Ask Oz How Many Civil Settlements He Had To Pay Out To Seal The Fraud Cases For Junk He Was Selling On His Show, While Failing To Disclose To His Viewers That He Was A Top Investor In Those Fake Products.

Dear “Dr” Oz: Most able-bodied people on Medicaid are already working. For companies like Walmart, lots of them. Or small businesses that don’t provide any insurance & don’t pay enough for their employees to buy it. You’re either a fool or a liar. Or a lying fool. Or a lying liar.

Ok so lemme try the maths here: 6am wake up 6–7am get kids fed and ready for school (fix breakfast, pack lunch) 7:30-8 shower and get dressed 8am leave house 8:30 arrive at work 12–12:30 mandatory lunch break (you aren’t paid for this time) 5pm: leave work; pick kids from aftercare/sitter

6pm: Arrive home 6-7pm: Fix dinner 7-8pm: eat family dinner 8-8:30 wash up 8:30-9pm put kids to bed 9-11pm relax 11pm bed (that will get you 7 hours of sleep) This timeline doesn’t include any chores other than washing dishes after dinner (no grocery shopping, no laundry) or kid extracurrics

If you aren’t a rich person with hired help, this is pretty intense grind, especially for someone with low income trying to save money. Money buys leisure: housecleaner, lawn service, prepared meals and takeout, babysitters and more. A rich man like Oz has no clue.

He is in an administration whose leader is an overweight, big mac eating and cola drinking slob and he's telling the American people that they've got to live healthier to deserve Healthcare? Also, a large percentage of employed people can only afford Medicaid. Why is this so hard to understand?

Don’t you have to find out EXACTLY who and how many are cheating Medicaid BEFORE you cut the budget? You might be able to save even more money!!! Or, these cuts will endanger and kill people. Either way, it’s usually good to measure twice, cut once.

ABLE-BODIED PEOPLE DON'T GET MEDICAID. Please, any able-bodied, go try to get it and bring us a receipt. Then we can talk. They created this whole new category of able-bodied on medicaid who can go work on farm. Such people don't exist, but they are ready to put them in charge of our food.

What % of people on Medicaid are able-bodied? Oz making a straw man argument. "All of the pink Martians on Medicaid spend too much time watching TV. Therefore, we need to cut Medicaid funding."

Someone show me the math on how these young able-bodied people are somehow using up $800B in healthcare If theyre going to the Dr that much, theyre probs not that “able-bodied”

That's right. Not taking care of children, aging parents, getting the chores done; cleaning, garden work, home repair, shopping, cooking, addressing mail, catching up on the day with partners/family/friends, gassing up vehicles, attending doctor appointments, refilling perscripts...just hanging out.

lol, seriously. How many hours a day are these clowns doing “interviews” so their boss is happy? Hegseth needed his own makeup and hair room and Noem needs to show off her cute “I’m bad ass but also pretty” work outfits. Trump complains if he doesn’t see them when it’s “executive time.”

If all able bodied people can work why isn't there 100 % employment. There are lots of people trying to get jobs who have given up trying because there are no jobs to be found for there skills set. What's the government going to do transport all of them from mostly city or urban areas to the farms?

It's a 10 hour day working with a commute/dropping kids off to daycare, which leaves 6 hours - food shopping, prep, clean up, homework, school sport or activity, laundry, taking care of an elderly parent - all the stuff that gets done after work doesn't leave too much time for the chill leisure bit.

Recipients not working is a false talking point. Only a small percentage (8%) were not working for other reasons like retirement or inability to find work. Facts below. In addition, you cannot save enough money by having non-workers work. The math doesn’t add up.

Umm… work 9-5 (full time) and that leaves 6 hours for “hanging out” cooking, doing laundry, caring for the kids, homework, friends, cleaning and maybe some time playing video games or watching TV or reading. We call that the American lifestyle.

We do not need more rich white men who have no concept of what it's like to work for a living in positions of power. Or that have no concept that you can be working and be on Medicaid because we don't pay a living wage in this country.

I know fox is owned by a very old man and they let old men come on board and lie through their teeth. We are so tired of them constantly lying every day just to rob us blind. Every old dog has its day!! It can’t come soon enough 🆘

I'm 64, and to look at me my doctors don't even believe it, but let me tell you, your life becomes one trip to a doctor in all directions multiple times a week, and you're in mild pain all the time for nothing. Even a quack like Oz knows that. This is all gaslighting.

Gee, he sounds so sensical, but what he isn't saying is that most people on Medicaid are working. So, maybe if we want people off Medicaid we need to raise the minimum wage to a livable wage.

6.1 hours hanging out? Let's see... 8 hours at work 8 hours of sleep 1.9 eating/errands 6.1 to recover for tomorrow. Oh, I see, we're supposed to work every minute to produce for the oligarchs. No free time. No relaxation. No recovery. Just work until we die and get replaced by the next cog.

"If you're able-bodied and able to work" includes everybody who's working full time, part time, or not at all. Oz obviously doesn't know what he's saying, but why should anyone find that surprising?

The MAGA sickness has gotten so bad I had this conversation with my FIL: FIL: I hear by 2030 most people won't have jobs thanks to AI. What then? Me: Probably Universal Basic Income FIL: Great, I guess we'll have to pay for them too. Me: (in my head) like they have a choice.
