Tucker Carlson had pro-Hitler Daryl Cooper on his show and called him "the most important historian alive." It's Cooper's opinion that Hitler was the real hero of WWII. Carlson is a fully fledged Nazi and yet he spoke at the RNC and is liked and respected among Republicans. This is nothing to them.

They not only had adult Klan members but a separate Klan for women, older kids and even one for babies. the civil Right Act made the stop wearing sheets for the most part and to be careful with their racism, so many whites have grown up racist as hell, they just kept it quiet.

Respectfully disagree. The Republican Party I knew growing up in a household of Republicans was not like this. On the margins, there were extremists like Jesse Helms. But they were fringe. In the past, I sometimes voted for Republicans like Weld and Baker. Trump, however, has made the GOP toxic.

Fine, but Jesse was not "fringe." He was a Senator for 30 years, chair of influential committees, and a national voice for Republicans for decades. Republicans like Weld and Baker have not had party influence since the 80's. That party does not exist any more. It started fading out 40 years ago.

The point of the "bad apple" metaphor is that the rot in one apple very quickly spreads to all the others. So often people get it exactly backwards, and use it to suggest that we shouldn't presume that the rot has or will spread.

My ex-husband was a leading member of the young Republican club in the 1980’s where we lived. I am VERY familiar with this line of thought and speech. It’s not new, it’s just not hidden as well anymore.
