VAN HOLLEN: You suggested Alex Pretti was culpable for his own killing because he had a gun he was licensed to carry. Would you like to retract that statement? BESSENT: I would not. Would you like to express remorse over the death of Ashli Babbitt here in the Capitol?

This is revealing Legally carry a gun and express your 1A and 2A rights. You're in a public area. Not trespassing. You deserve and caused your own death. Take part of a mob that stormed the Capitol and shot while violently smashing a door being told deadly force will be used and you're a martyr

America is ruled by a murderous puppet regime, a front for crooks out to steal your money and take your freedom before killing you off by the millions. AGAIN. Courts, judges, Dems and pep rallies will not remove it nor get you accountability. Rise up before the #RFKjr plagues break out. Thread:

Nothing wrong with expressing regret for anyone’s death. However there’s no equivalent for someone being shot while trying to help and protect someone who was forcibly tackled to the ground and someone who was forcibly breaking into the Capitol to stop the peaceful certification of an election.

Takes a special kind a person to compare behavior of an insurrectionist to that of a good Samaritan, trying to help others being oppressed JUST because they both died in completing their tasks? Did Bessent actually think this through?

If anyone is suggesting that Babbit being killed was a travesty, but killing Pretti was his own fault, they should be required to reconcile that on the spot.

What a clown. Pretti was engaging in a First Amendment protected activity. The other person was engaging in treason.

Comparing law enforcement protecting our nation's previously peaceful transfer of power from violent insurrectionists with a citizen murdered on the formerly peaceful streets of Minnesota by federal thugs defies the reasonable and exposes the tyranny🦅vote em out🇺🇲

Ashli "Traitor to America" Babbit ain't no Alex Pretti. Those names should never be mentioned together. Full stop! Ash was a Qanon moron who stormed the capitol and paid with her life for it. Pretti was a VA ICU nurse helping a fellow protester. For shame, people. For shame.

Gee, one person was shot while lying down and not drawing a weapon while helping someone else who was pushed by law enforcement, at a peaceful protest against the inhumane practices of attacking immigrants. The other was wielding a weapon while engaging in violent behavior attacking the Capitol. 🤔

This admin is the admin of retaliation so we’re the deaths of Pretti and Good in retaliation of Babbitt’s death? Honest question here! He sickens me- comparing the two deaths is like comparing apples to oranges! This whole admin is demented

Babbitt was actively involved in breaching a space she was repeatedly warned against. Pretti was helping a woman shoved around by ICE thugs when he was dragged to the ground, pepper sprayed, and shot 10 times. These two events don’t even compare, you gaslighting fuck face.

Bessent is a smug, lying bitch. When confronted with something he wrote in a letter, he will lie about not meaning it if it goes counter to trump’s position. And he’s always so smug about it.

Just to recap, she was part of a mob that stormed the capital with the express purpose of preventing our votes from being counted and ostensibly to hang the vice president. They attacked law enforcement and while doing so she was shot and killed. He … wasn’t.

Ashlie Babbet was in the act of breaching the House chamber after being warned repeatedly that she would be shot if she did not stop. Pretti did no such thing.

Van Hollen keeps his cool here, but he shouldn't. He should express righteous outrage at this response. Alex Pretti was standing on the street, filing ICE officers and helping someone and was shot and killed. Ashli Babbitt was part of a rioting mob that had broken into the US Capital!

There is nothing comparable between these two situations at all, and so why does Bessent even bring up Babbitts name?!? The ONLY thing they have in common is that they are civilians. Then when Bessent starts saying its a hearing about economic stuff this should also prompt some righteous fury

Bessent strays out of his economic lane all the fucking time! He's the one who first commented on Alex Pretti's death! He could have said "no comment, I'm the Treasury secretary, talk to DHS or the FBI" - but he didn't - so its perfectly reasonable to ask him about his own comments. What a prick.

They have one goal "destroy the US". They know that the only way they fail is by admitting it. Thanks Merrick Garland for holding absolutely no individual in power to account after the first attempted coup. Joe Biden's administration was feckless in the face of tyranny.

Neither should’ve died but the situations are not comparable. Babbitt was actively breaking the law. Pretti at worst was annoying CBP.

Sure. I'm sorry she was so deluded and radicalized that she had to be prevented from attacking members of Congress during a riot. Also sorry she violated her oath to defend the US Constitution, although that's fairly common in MAGA.

False equivalence. Public street... vs violent takeover of a government building, breaching a broken door, through broken glass, despite multiple warnings etc. Yes... Sad that Babbitt got shot. I blame Trump.

Dear Mr Bessent, Pretti was perfectly entitled to be stood on the street, filming, then protecting an assaulted woman. Babbit was part of an insurrection killing cops and smearing shit on the walls and doing hundreds of millions of dollars in damage. Hope this helps.

Never apologize. Never back down. When caught in a lie, lie. Bessnet graduated top of the 2025 class of Trump University. Master Degree in how to lie with a straight face under pressure

I have a theory that Epstein was the brains of the Trump operation. Trump had him killed because if there's one thing he CAN'T STAND, it's having someone in the room smarter and more respected than him, and Trump II as a result is just a complete shitshow because there's no one with leverage on him.

Why express regret over the death of an domestic terrorist that attempted to destroy the democratic process of certifying elections by endangering the lives of elected officials ?

That smug, condescending, smirking jerk-off thinks he's all that and then some, doesn't he? His answer is a stupid effort to be the big though guy in the room. Idiot! He tried something similar with Maxine Waters. He such an arrogant 💩🤬

Ashli tried to steal an election from ME so I do take her actions personally. And Trumps DOJ paying her family off was enough to make one vomit. All in service of the Big Lie. Bessent is proving himself one of the absolute worst of the many gaslighting sycophants.

These cabinet members are the most disrespectful, contemptible bunch of low life ghouls to ever inhabit the White House. They all forget that they work tor the People NOT president man/child.

How about Kyle Rittenhouse- oh wait, he wasn’t killed and was made a republican hero because he stormed a protest with a gun and actually murdered people. Bessent can F off

Babbitt was actively engaged in a violent insurrection where officers had already been beaten to death. She was actively climbing in through a window to a secure location and was repeated warned to cease or she would be fired on. This is the worst False Equivalence anyone could even attempt to make

Hey Bessent, Babbitt was armed . She had a knife. She knew how to use it. She had military training. She wasn't killed because she had a weapon. She was shot because she was attacking officers. Alex was unarmed and shot in the back 5 times then lay prone on rhe ground and shot 6 more times.

No cops were beaten to death that day. Some died later from stroke or suicide. 140 were injured, some permanently. Not minimizing Babbitt's treachery, but we shouldn't misrepresent the facts. That's MAGA's specialty.

The woman who broke into a government building and repeatedly refused to follow law enforcement orders while being in a place where she had no business of being at at the time?

Excellent point! Instead, she won herself a well-deserved suicide-by-cop, which is tragically unfair to the officer who fired at her. I won't mention his name, but I'll note he was just doing his job. He deserves accolades, not infamy.

But I want to know is why the secretary of the treasury keeps getting trotted out for this bullshit. None of them will ever apologize or expressed remorse or care for their fellow citizens. It’s all about being rich and powerful to them.

CBP and ICE are not supposed to use lethal force unless there's imminent danger. #AlexPretti #ICE #CBP #DHS #gunviolence #immigration #video #migrants DHS policy is to respect human life and to minimize possible harm. DHS Policy 044-05 on use of force and de-escalation www.dhs.gov/sites/defaul...

Such blatant whataboutism… it’s truly pathetic. Such a disgrace for the LGBTQ community: the first openly gay person to hold one of the 4 major cabinet positions is this piece of shit. I still don’t get how MAGA supports an openly gay man who worked directly for George Soros.

This smug fuck thinks this hearing is an opportunity to use oppo blurbs on the committee members, and act like a schoolyard bully - like the asshole he serves. There are no adults in the current admin. Period.

Alex Pretti was shot 10 times in the back while he was on the ground, face down after he was attempting to help a woman being accosted by ice Babbit was shot while attempting to kick her way through a door leading to the Senate chamber during an attempted insurrection. These are not the same.

WTAF? Those killings are not even remotely the same. Ashli Babbitt was breaking the law and posing a threat to members of Congress. Alex Pretti was not breaking any laws nor did he threaten anyone.
