As an Electrical Engineer I am appalled at his either lack of knowledge or just outright lies to sell petroleum products. This is the type of propaganda that will cost tax payers their life savings. Battery backup is standard in most systems and has the advantage of being instantaneous in response and requires little to no maintenance. They are cheap and reliable and he is an idiot! This is why CHINA is leaving America in it's dust, STUPIDITY! We need to invest in schools and pay teachers well!

The components are coming from China because big non-renewable energy bought it up in the US and closed it down for fear of competition. Running renewable energy component production plants were shut down mid-production and simply left to rot. Repeatedly.

And batteries don’t need to be chemical. A really good method is to raise a weight with a portion of the daylight energy and release the gravity to recapture the kinetic energy. Variants on this can lift an empty container and bring down material from above in a dual advantage transport system.

For the record: I think the number was closer to 6 to 8 billion; a cost they've already recouped through higher gas prices at the ⛽ And we haven't even reached the annual summer hike in gasoline, diesel, kerosene and propane prices. General petroleum product prices will be impacted by this war.

What people forget is that raw energy density is way less important for static installations. An old Prius battery that only takes 80% charge is still a useful thing in a ground-based installation.

Batteries are useful if you have solar excess, and low baseload at night (e.g. a desert). Also when combined with microgeneration, e.g. using old EV batteries. The real question is who we prefer to go extinct: oil barons, or everything on the planet bigger than a cockroach. GOP: team roach.

Battery production, maintenance and storage volume are still a problem even with today new methods. We don't have enough materials on the planet to produce the storage we need for our power grids long-term. This is why there has been a lot of experimentation into less resource intensive methods.

I remember back in the 80's PG&E connected two lakes of different elevations with a pipe. They pumped water up with excess energy and extracted energy on the way down when it needed extra power on the grid. A gravity battery, very simple.
