We are not unique in our abuses of trans people. The UK is currently legislating to remove trans people (mostly trans women) from public life. There is currently legislation in Canada to make accessing life saving healthcare more difficult. Transphobia is everywhere. Please watch out for our sake.

No one is legislating here in UK to remove trans women from public life. A challenge was made to more relaxed gender recognition changes in Scottish law, using our Equality laws, which turn out to be inadequate to protect trans people. The clarification is devastating but not new legislation.

Parents, love your kids. Always. No matter what. If they do good things, if they do bad things; if they succeed or fail. Especially when you don't understand them or they don't understand themselves. Just keep loving them. You may be all they have sometimes. Don't leave them with nothing.

You are all too kind and such wonderful beautiful humans! This is actually adding hope coins to my hope bank and soon, I know I'll be cashing out with the biggest smile I could ever muster. All I want is goodness for everyone. "The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is to love and b loved in return!"

Robert DeNiro is a good man, an A+ actor, & most importantly, a great father. So many out here need to take a few lessons from our talented loving brethren. Talking to you, insecure not-very-smart felon musk.

That's very sweet! Any grandparent who doesn't love a grandchild unconditionally is a fool! I didn't care about her gender when she was born, and I totally accepted her transition. I want her to be herself!

I believe that's because Robert, you have the capacity for love and compassion. The people who reject their own children have deficiencies that prevent them from being able to feel enough love and empathy for their children. It isn't the LGBTQ+ children, it's their lacking parents.

That's what a good supportivt loving parent would do unlike the crrep Elon Musk, who sees his children as objects that are only an extension of his egotistical lowlife stupid dumbass fucked up self.

It really is just that easy. My kid's gender and sexuality have nothing to do with me. I love THEM, and it doesn't matter what's in their pants or who they partner up with. I love my children with every fiber of my being, and I want them to be 100% themselves and THRIVE!

~ ~ It is not a big deal. I met my first transgender women over 40 years ago, at work. It was computer and mainframe support, a male dominated career then. Anyway, the guys took me off of midnight shift and made me work with this gal because they refused to.🙄😜

If only all of those so called Christians would heed this example. Love is love, for your partner, your family members, your friends or acquaintances. Even strangers on the street, everyone deserves acceptance and to be free of judgement.

Guy, without going into my family's personal business, I understand on so many weird levels. I'm glad I read your other replies to get a full picture, because that first comment had big "Waaah! I'm the victim. My kid is dead to me" energy. I'm glad you love her, but your bitterness is palpable

CNN it's really embarrassing that a news provider as large as yourself doesn't bother to use alt text so that your content can be enjoyed by visually impaired people (and indexed better in search, filtering, and feeds)

Alt text: (picture of Robert De Niro) "I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter. I don't know what the big deal is." Robert De Niro

Right? If any person wants to go down that road, God bless 'em. And who cares? Let people be who they want to be. Keep your judgments to yourself. Live and let live. And stop hating what you don't understand.

It’s not even that they *want* to go down that road—for them, like us, it’s not a choice. They are who they are and it’s their parents’ job to love them. Totally agree with you that people should not hate. ❤️

If any of your expectations for your child are based around their gender then they are both unfair and NEVER guaranteed to begin with which is why I will never understand people who ‘mourn’ any aspect of their child transitioning. There’s absolutely zero ‘loss’ involved.

I don’t know what the big deal is either. Good parents love their kids & want them to be happy & fulfilled. I’m glad he supports his daughter, that’s how it should be.

I love and respect this, BUT I hate that we are in a place where doing the absolute bare minimum is groundbreaking. This is simply not being a garbage parent. (Good on him still)

You did not understand what he said, right? Because op said that it sucks that currently doing the bare minimum is already considered to be such a big amazing thing, even though it should be just normal

No, I understood that it was a comment about society at large. It also shows that universal acceptance is a long way off on both sides of the argument. If someone showing support is immediately met by negative comments, why would anyone bother.

While I hope that a day would come where we don't need validation from celebrities for stuff like this, we are clearly not there yet and these statements of support are very important & I am glad he said what he did.

Yes, Robert DeNiro is a good human being. He understands what all are different and we should all be respected and loved. Republicans hate people who are different or lack power and can be bullied & divided….they hate transgender and women, gays, blacks and browns and you can fill in the blank…….

Robert De Niro is the perfect example of of real man/father who is comfort with his and others sexuality and loves unconditionally!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈
