I’d buy it as being incomplete or the only consideration, but AI as it currently exists is purely about investing in the potential of something, so whether or not the amount being invested is resulting in anything is just about the only thing we can measure.
Me personally when I give someone my money with the intent to get back more than I gave them, I don’t really care if I don’t get anything back. I can just go to my money tree and get more money
I figure that if the point of AI is to replace humans, then it would be simple to track ROI by comparing how much your humans accomplish vs how much AI accomplishes for the amount spent on salary/tokens. If you're out of 1 year's tokens in 4 months then surely AI did a year's worth of work by then
seems fairly easy to figure out what a year's worth of work is/should be, so maybe one issue is that business management is shit and no one knows how productive anything should be?
Strictly speaking, ROI is not the be-all and end-all of determining the quality of a product or service.
However, it is a strong indicator of whether something is worth investing in, and the abysmal ROI of AI companies makes the continued investment seem baffling from a financial perspective.
The fundamental concept of making money is archaic.
We have moved beyond the need for your primitive "finance" - in the new paradigm business is built on the Higher Order of Life Time Cube.
Man, that's what *I've* been saying this whole time I'm glad they're finally agreeing, just a shame they already kinda destroyed the environment and any remnants of the postwar social contract
I do wonder if some of these takes are from people who watched that Rory Sutherland video on the doorman fallacy and AI but have misunderstood it, thinking that AI was the doorman, rather than the automatic door.
Clearly this emailer has never worked in business. Every dollar spent should have a ROI analysis done before a check is cut
If you’re not getting a Return on your Investment, why invest in the first place?!?
By "ROI is a bullshit metric," they mean the idea that paying money for something should return some kind of value? The concept of buying a thing because you'll be better off with the thing than without it??
