I have long believed that we should be WAY more vocal about how police and ICE constantly murder dogs, and I think this is great messaging actually. The reality is that you can mobilize a whole lot of usually tuned-out Americans around a “someone is being mean to hecking doggos” cause.

I have been in animal rescue for years and was first exposed to the rescue world because of a report of a family pet murdered by police at the wrong house. One of the issues that UNITES Red & Blue is stopping the abuse of companion animals & rescuing them.

ICE is already responsible for overloading shelters bc detained/fleeing families have to leave beloved pets behind. ICE will also kill a lot more dogs. I know @weratedogs.com is already bold in taking political stances, but any amplification of this carelessness could further grind down ICE's rep.

This is going to sound bizarre but I think stories of them striking or kicking dogs would serve the purpose better than murder. A dog getting shot dead is so far from normie experience, the mind recoils. Someone hitting Waffles? That's comprehensibly enraging and not too gory to spread on Facebook.

He's talking about Hasan Piker. His dog made a yelp noise on stream and everybody who hates him decided that means he must be abusing the dog. I'm not even a big fan of his. I find him a little grating. But it was really nonsense.

Anyone who’s witnessed the bloodlust on display from normie Facebook Americans around reports of someone being mean to a dog will viscerally understand this

I think it is totally fine that some people just aren’t fans of pets and not a moral commentary on them one way or another, but when considered with all the OTHER horrific aspects of Donald Trump…

I think it is totally fine that some people just aren’t fans of pets, and I firmly believe that people who don’t like pets are not somehow inherently suspect or evil - however, when considered with all the OTHER horrific aspects of Donald Trump…

I absolutely do not remember some of my neighbors names but I know the dogs. I have 2 dogs stop outside my house just in case I come out for scritches. I'm just way too slow most of the time bc my spine & chronic pain & illness. Literally give me pain killers so I can pet doggos.

Yeah, this isn't is issue like taxes or even healthcare where people have strong opinions but not pillar of your identity principles. Killing or harming dogs or other pets is. I would vote for any candidate who promised maximum harm to any officer even in the proximity of the murder of a pet.

Someone in my town complained on the town FB page about an off-leash dog pissing on their lawn chair, and you’d think the chair owner had insulted their moms. It was full of people blaming him for letting his chair get peed on, for complaining about it, etc. And that guy hadn’t even done anything.

It's another inevitable consequence of having armed police: give them a firearm, and they will use it as first resort, not last, even if only on the principle of 'safety first'. They apply this to human shootings, after all. Lots of research on the subject. scholars.unh.edu/unh_lr/vol17...

scholars.unh.eduMore than Just Collateral Damage: Pet Shootings by PoliceThe Department of Justice estimates that American police officers shoot 10,000 pet dogs in the line of duty each year. It is impossible to ascertain a reliable number, however, because most law enforc...

British police are not routinely armed. A Freedom of Information request in 2024 revealed that the Metropolitan Police - easily the largest force - destroyed 9 dogs 2018-2022. Police do have access to armed officers, if the need arises, and if a dog is judged to pose a danger they do act. 1/3

The reason that far fewer dogs are shot by UK police than in the US is the same reason that far fewer *people* are shot by UK police: the typical police officer is not armed. We can have unarmed police because we have very tight firearms laws, so officers rarely face armed threats. This means 2/3

The only time my conservative side of the family got mad at the cops was when one of them killed a black bear. Even though we should care when the police kill any person, animal deaths cut through copaganda very effectively.

3 or 4 years ago the off duty cop who was married to the city manager of the tiny town I grew up killed some guys dog over a minor fight at a boat dock. To this day, ppl still have up signs in their yard honoring the dog, in a deep red town with lots of back the blue folks.

I watched a youtube about the Detroit pigs & the insane amount of dogs they shoot every year. They lie through their teeth about it constantly before video gets released. Every time I see some cop getting caught lying on video, all I think is how many lies they get away with without damning video.

It is, i think of myself as empathetic mostly, but something about someone hurting a dog or cat. in your next post you describe it as bloodlust. Its probably why John Wick as a story has its own place in our zeitgeist RIP Gilbert RIP Chop

I've long joked that you can tell the police don't have a warrant because your dog is still alive, but I guess that's a bad metric now that they don't need a warrant to murder a family pet.

We can disagree on a lot, but as soon as you hurt a dog, I know we're on the opposite side. Wild how that doesn't extend to women or minorities or disabled people or queer people. But I appreciate dogs performing their historical duty of warding against evil. 😍😭😍🙏😭🌋😭🙏

The single most successful political project of my lifetime has been the image rehabilitation of pit bulls, you can have the most suburb-brained conservatives in a foaming-mouth frenzy on this issue.
