A bunch of angry spouses on social media believe that Grand Theft Auto 6's in-depth relationship mechanic is equivalent to cheating on your real life partner and worth breaking up over. https://bit.ly/4qLlUbp

I confessed to my boyfriend that I do the Blackwall romance every time I play Dragon Age: Inquisition and he called me a “hobbit lover” in front of the entire HOA.

The Iron Bull is superior. I’m currently replaying Inquisition after playing Veilguard, and decided to try Solas…who I haven’t actually successfully romanced before. (I want to see how everything holds up with what I now know. It’s…interesting.)

Spouse confessed to me that he romanced Astarion in his first BG runthrough, despite Astarion being Very Much Not His Type, but ended up dumping him because he was *too* emotionally unstable XD

A) I doubt it's a "bunch." A scattered few, maybe B) If they feel that way? Just break up with them now. Anyone who can't tell the difference between fantasy and real life is a major problem waiting to happen. Get out now and save yourself the trouble

This feels like just another example of things still being in the literal age and people really have lost any media literacy. Along with a bunch of other unsettled, problems.....

Rockstar couldn’t imagine centering a game on a female protagonist without pissing their male fanbase so they’re going to let them meat puppet both sides of an interracial relationship which is sure to produce some super normal cogent reasons for enjoying gta6.

A bunch of idiots. A romance plotline in a video game is cheating in the same way that reading a romance novel is cheating. Given that GTA is most famous for violence, I’d think they’d have other concerns. I can’t believe we’re having to explain fiction to people.

Controlling, insecure people are and have always been controlling, insecure people. And there have been accusations of "emotional cheating" with fictional characters before.

My husband, meanwhile, not only bought me a Gale of Waterdeep body pillow pillowcase, but also helped me put it on said body pillow. He understands a virtual wizard isn't going to come through the computer screen and ruin our marriage because I romanced him while playing a lizard man. I love him.

Further proof that Shadowfart is the lamest video game character ever: you can still seduce her even if you blow every opportunity and act like a loser. Girl, have some standards. I'm a sickly mutant, I have no rizz, and I'm putting children in barrels and throwing them into spider pits.

Which is funny because Wrath of the Righteous lets you romance a sickly rizzless mutant who thinks basic hygiene is a sign of weakness, and it's quite easy to fumble her if she feels condescended to.

As silly as this is, if it’s not within the permissions of the relationship, it’s understandable to be upset. Some people have very strict relationship boundaries to the point where I think it’s a little silly, but it’s not my right to choose that for someone.

What? Yeah, it is actually being posted across socials. I've seen it on Bluesky, on TikTok, and even fucking Facebook. Insecure partners are actually worried about this. And if I was still with my ex, I know damn well there'd be a fight about GTA 6. She was on my case about SDV & BG3.

I kinda hate this modern media trend of finding a popular thing, then highlighting a small subsection of randos online who dislike it. These spouses have insecurity and probably either neglect or emotional dependency. Their problems are much bigger than gta if this is an actual concern for them.

My sister is very much like this. Kissing on screen is fine for her but anything more is crossing the line. I'm unsure about novels. There is a whole saga with her about how she thought porn bots were real people talking to her husband. (I'm talking spam bots in DMs before gen ai)

Technically in a game you’re making choices but there are a lot of people who believe porn is cheating. Would they feel the same about someone watching Secretary 50 times?

Someone being made angry by their spouse cheating on them in a dream was a cliche long before COVID. Insecurity has been a thing for a long time.

A bunch of comments saying that this is a made up thing. I've seen at least 10 different TikToks stitched by mutuals, all about how GTA 6 is going too far. And as someone who was in a relationship where my ex was upset about Haley from fuckin' SDV & refused to play it, yeah. It is real.

My friend decided to leave her husband when he left the beach to go play in the car. That was without these ‘relationship’ extras. Good news is he decided to put down the games and got back to fatherhood and they’re back together now. It seems to be going well for them tho relapse surely looms.

And the game is still a few months away from launching at all. Do people not have enough problems already that they have to start making some up?..

If a spouse gets upset/jealous about fictional characters, the gamer should be the one breaking up with them. That's a huge red flag and will definitely cause issues later in the relationship anyway. Gamers deserve better.

Also the people who are defending this they can't possibly be real LOL should I choose a woman that I can spend my time with and enjoy life with her or do I choose playing a video game with a bossy woman telling me when I should and what time I should go to the bathroom 😂this is RIDICULOUS!! CUCKS

The more I look at this game the more I don't want it what what game or wants to be a gangster with commitment issues and a woman who tells him what to do also the whole influencer nonsense I'd rather not they trying to get us off for a GTA online they put us on this poison I'll pass

Wow, the GTA marketing push is getting wild. Legit news sources just promoting the hell out of this game. Anything to keep it in the public eye until the release.

Has the game come out yet? Cause this feels very much like a thing not happening. And also a weird form of advertising. "Look dude buy this game its so great at relationships it'll make the totally real women in your life jelly!"

Old and busted: "I'm mad at you because I had a dream where you cheated on me" New hotness: "I'm mad at you because you took Candy Suxxx down the wrong side of the dialogue tree"
