The woman whom the House Ethics Committee determined Matt Gaetz paid for sex when she was 17 years old was living in a homeless shelter, working at McDonald's, and needed the money for braces www.nytimes.com/2025/11/13/u...

What pisses me off is that prosecutors declined to press charges against Gaetz...because his victim "wasn't going to make a sympathetic witness" or something, due to her situation in life. In other words, she wasn't a squeaky clean high school cheerleader, but rather a down & out sex worker.

#ACTION Now is the time to call your congressperson (house rep) and tell them you will be watching their vote next week regarding release of the Epstein files. You will be watching to see if they vote to protect pedophiles — or not.

please don't refer to her as a woman when what you really mean to say is that she was a CHILD. "The CHILD whom the Ethics Committee determined Matt Gaetz paid for sex when she was 17...."

ohhhhh he got defrauded by unethical sex worker practices. Because of church-based attacks on sex work and refusal to help poor, underaged girls get braces. We gotta normalize NOT shaming men for being stupid sex pigs (it makes them sneakier) WHILE protecting young women from stupid sex pigs BETTER

Trump's first pick for Attorney General of the United States. All to cover up #TheEpsteinFiles and his global organization of wealthy child rapists. The Bigger the cover-up, the Bigger the scandal. Trump would destroy America to protect himself and them. It's That big.

I can't help but notice that all these underage or pedophile scandals take place in Florida. Even the Mom's for Liberty sex scandal was in Florida. Rather than banning books, maybe the adults should change their behavior. Unbelievable.

Iirc some journalists said a leak from the FBI told them he wasn't charged for this because the witnesses they had (including her) were going to be hostile witnesses and a statutory charge was likely to fail when the victim both didn't want to be there and had lied about her age. Don't agree 1/

but it's one of the few why the hell didn't X get charged that at least made some sense considering the usual DoJ standard of only charge if you are positive you can win (not the exact language but close and which is a whole different issue with that being a norm but that's another argument). 2/2

Garland knew what was in the Epstein Files. He still did not release them even after knowing that Trump wanted to choose Gaetz as his successor, whose file I'm sure he ALSO knew. It's maddening.

Matt Gaetz's asignation with a 17yo had almost nothing to do with ending his political career. It happened because 1) Gaetz talked Trump into nominating him for AG; 2) Gaetz resigned from Congress after his nom; and 3) that nom was withdrawn cuz he was so despised he wouldn't have been confirmed.

Hey, if you are in my mentions doing tedious, pedantic word-choice policing in the context of a story that no literate person has any trouble understanding is bad, put down your phone, put on your coat, and go outside, I promise it’ll do you good

*pushes glasses as far up their face as possible* How rude of you to assume that everyone lives in a cold climate. Many people live in warm climates and wouldn't need to put on a coat before going outside. Please check your climate bias and be inclusive of people that live in warmer locales.

honestly i'm sorry for the long reply chain. I'm not saying you're a bad person or did anything on purpose. When I ask you to take more care to always describe the victim as the child she was, instead of as the adult she is, I'm not like... implicating you.

I disagree strongly that word choice here is irrelevant. We are talking about adults having sex with kids. These adults frequently use "she might be young but she acted like an adult!" as their justification/excuse for their behavior. "She isn't actually THAT young" is a common refrain.

With all that in mind, all I'm asking is that you be more careful to always frame situations like this as "child raped by adult(s)," instead of "she's a grown up now, and here's what happened." That she's grown up NOW, years later, is irrelevant to what happened at the time.

This NYT coverage is insane. "She falsely advertised herself" -- like, what the cinnamon toast fuck, she was trafficked and an online platform helped. Which online platform doesn't verify the age of its sex workers? NYT won't say, protecting its sources, I guess Magically, it's the victim's fault

At least it upended his career. The trouble with these lawless conservative goons is they keep resurfacing after their shame-laden downfalls. Meaning they have no shame. My respect for our country diminishes every time one of them receives power again.

Let nobody accuse Pubs of not wanting there to be a safety net for kids .. they just think it should be accessed by having to have sex with creepy conservative politicians
