The FDA just approved daraxonrasib, a breakthrough drug for advanced pancreatic cancer that doubles survival time. This is huge: pancreatic cancer was once thought untreatable. The researchers received a standing ovation when they presented the trial results, unheard of at scientific conferences.

The article says it will be under insurance; thanks to the ACA we have annual and lifetime OOOMs. One dose and that’s likely reached (as I did with Herceptin, known as a most expensive med). Could we maybe not doom this immediately?

Pancreatic Cancer treatment lots of promise: Revolution Medicine - Daraxonrasib - great science behind how to make undruggable - druggable - - states improves median survival improved from 6.7 to 13.2 months (family member got over 3 years on it before recurrence)

but also Vinod Balachandran’s neoantigen vaccine - cerumeran - developed by mRNA cancer vaccine researched and developed with Genentech and BioNtTech - 90% of patients whose immune systems responded alive up to 6 years!

How do you use them: Advanced metastatic or pretreated cancer, immediate start and most RAS mutations - Daraxonrasib! mRNA neoantigen - takes 4 to 10 weeks to identify unique neoantigens - as an adjuvant after other treatments -and it prevent recurrence - for low tumor volume (like early stages)

My dad died of pancreatic cancer four years ago now– words can't describe the pain he suffered & how incredibly difficult it was to watch him waste away The development of drugs like these that can extend & improve quality of life illustrate the necessity of appropriately funding medical research

One of my exes’ Mom perished from pancreatic Ca. A truly awful, awful, AWFUL “way to go”. BSS LOVED food & wine & sailing the seas & tennis &… She was an OG ‘grammer for Burroughs, FFS!! I’m wrought w/ chills & HUGE gratitude for this research. No one “deserves” pancreatic death. Well, excluding…

I wonder. Dolly gave a million for covid vaccine development. What if science was fully funded. And research didn’t receive tRump admin cuts. What other great breakthroughs could we be applauding??

And a middle-aged type 1 diabetic received a kidney and !!pancreas!! transplant, and appears to be doing well, and the medical community feel they have doubled his life expectancy. This is huge!!

And how is the regular folk with no insurance being able to afford that if they need it? Just asking... My best friend died of pancreatic cancer. I have no idea how he didn't die of a heart attack earlier under the pile of hospital bills he started to receive immediately after the diagnosis.

You’re right about the medical bills, and we have (crappy) insurance. I wonder if my husband could get this, but not holding my breath…

People should have insurance. Pre Covid subsidies are still there, many states have supplemented. OOPM will cap it (at thousands but not tens of). It’s not perfect but it’s better and I’m tired of the political damage done to ACA by those purportedly supporting provision of health care.

It's unbelievable that we could have such a victory in these impossible times. I remain grateful to the scientists who persist in their work and wish peace of mind for those who will benefit from this modern miracle.

I’ve been on the Expanded Access Program for a week. The side effects are manageable and I’m hopeful it will give me time to finish my next novel and perhaps the one after that. Science is a good thing, and I’m thankful for those who dedicate their lives to its advancement.

As a survivor (PNET) I want to thank you. It takes a special kind of courage to try the new stuff in the midst of the fight. You are saving many lives and I hope also your own. To many years ahead!

Big Pharma are very tricky with their sales lingo: "In a key clincial trail, patients who got the pill, lived twice as long..." 'a key' means only ONE of numerous trials conducted. 'lived twice as long as' the other group So if the other group died in 5 months, the Drug group died in 10 months.

My father died of stage 4 pancreatic cancer in 2024, almost a year to the date after his diagnosis. I hope this drug becomes widely available and works.

Lost my cousin to pancreatic cancer. So hopeful that others won't lose their loved ones. Bravo to Medical and Science researchers!

This is great. I wish there was an option for the research company to submit their receipts, get paid back by the gov't for all their research to get to this point and then they charge something reasonable for the pills themselves, instead of a half million dollars a year.

And just as the applause faded the found out worm-brain cut funding to prevent full commercialization...my bitter self assumes.

When my mom was diagnosed 18 months ago, her oncologist said, “unfortunately, when it comes to pancreatic cancer, we don’t have much to be proud of yet.” But THIS is something to be proud of. I love science.

My wife also from pancreatic cancer, diagnosed by CT when the tumor on the pancreatic tail was 6x9 cm. She had been having indigestion and abdominal pain for months which was treated as IBS. When these are discovered they don’t bother to label it as Stage IV and just estimate how long you have.

My wife had the car packed to visit her daughters in TN the morning she got the CT results at he NP’s and she put off going. I just wish she had gone. Chemo did nothing. She died 8-1/2 months after the diagnosis. Hopefully the new med will ease the progression and pain to give some time to enjoy.

Thinking of an acquaintance who died of this. We spent a lot of time together in her final days, as she got her affairs in order around all the pain. I think she would be very glad to know that there will be a day when people with pancreatic cancer won't have to go through what she did.

Well, if I get pancreatic cancer I’m not taking anything until JFK Jr tells me it’s OK. Even though he’s not a doctor and he’s dumb as a turd on a fence, I don’t make a medical move for myself or my family without his advice. 🫠

Good news, there has also been a big breakthrough in the treatment of Alzheimers, altering neurological response in the brain, the drug has been very successful on mice with minimal dosage.

I remember when the drug was announced originally. A standing ovation from the medical community. Hopefully people will have access & not the insurance denial method of care.

It will be $50K a pill and will have to be taken monthly for life and insurance won't pay for it as it's experimental. Somehow the pharmaceutical company will make money by selling it to 20 people around the world each month.

We just lost a very good friend to sudden pancreatic cancer. Developed since her last check up and blood tests 6 months ago. Went to stage 4 within that time. She passed 3 weeks after diagnosis.

Man I hope this continues to improve and aid the people unfortunate enough to meet this disease. My MiL died of pancreatic cancer in pretty short order. Total cluster fuck of a cancer.

Science has Always been your friend. Dictator Trump had Musk fire the scientist that helped make the world healthier. Trump, Musk and Kennedy need to kill off a few million so they can own land you won't be here to use. Three of the dumbest males in America. YEP there are others, Trump Cabinet.

Lost a few folks I knew to pancreatic cancer, an absolute death sentence, they were gone so tragically quick. This is stunning and welcome news.

It's a good step forward, but those I've known who've died from that cancer did so less than a year after diagnosis. And much of that time was in pain. So doubling that to maybe 2 painful years doesn't seem that much of a breakthrough. But hopefully they can build on this for a much better outcome.

Still, doubling median survival from roughly 7 months to 13 is meaningful, not transformative for most patients. This is a second-line option for metastatic disease, not a cure. The next test is whether the drug reaches people at a price and speed that matches the science.

Breaks my heart that my friend's brother is in the last weeks of his life due to pancreatic cancer, but I am also so glad to know so many others will live longer with a better quality of life.

My bad, it's more. "Revolution Medicines said the drug would have a sticker price of $39,800 a month, or about $478,000 when patients take it for a full year. The vast majority of the cost is expected to be covered through insurance, with varying out-of-pocket costs for patients."

nytimes.comF.D.A. Approves the Drug Daraxonrasib That’s Poised to Transform Pancreatic Cancer (Gift Article)In a key clinical trial, patients who got the pill, daraxonrasib, lived twice as long as those who got chemotherapy.

Your bad for reading half a sentence and not understanding what laws actually still exist. But do your thing and immediately, without any evidence, convince people they can’t have what they actually might, to save their lives (💋 cancer patient sitting in radiology as I type)

It will at least give people time to say their goodbyes and get their affairs in order. I wonder about the price. My sister is a director at AbbVie and these cancer drugs that cost tens of thousands of dollars per dose are not extending people's lives by healthy years, but by sick months.

My concern about this new drug with this hollowed out FDA and the many Trump/RFK jr sycophants having been placed there, is that this may have not been thoroughly tested and rushed out to make big profits instead. In addition the price tag is insane. Only the rich would be able to afford this.

I just had a friend die of this six weeks after diagnosis. Doubling survival time would have given her 12 weeks. Sorry but I don't find that worth celebrating. How about better diagnostic tools so it can be caught much earlier in the process. That I would celebrate.

sorry about your friend. many in this thread are sharing experiences of it being caught earlier than her. we don't have to and should not focus science in one direction, some may focus on evaluating approaches for fighting cancer while others evaluate approaches to do early diagnosis.

Kim....please understand that every single day with someone you love is precious. My husband was given a year. He got 10 months. And we savored every second. We were married for 54 years. I know it's not a cure...but it may lead to one. Don't take away hope.

More than that, it's also just the first drug. Now that immunologists know it's possible, they'll be able to make better ones.

As for the money...the drug company will help. I know this. I have a disabled child and her experimental drug is provided free...it would otherwise cost me thousands a month. I hope you or a loved one never has to go through this pain and loss.

I’m genuinely happy your last days with him were welcome and (hopefully) pleasant. My best friend in the world since we were 14 yrs. old spent her last, brutal year on chemo and immunotherapy. If I could go back I would beg her to NOT to do it. 6 good months would’ve been better than that.

I remember a massive argument when developing an enteral feed specifically for this cancer. The then leading UK expert on pancreatic cancer lost his shit when he heard that we were claiming extended lifespan. He spat truths that day. I hope that he sees this drug do what we couldn't.

I'm glad they've found a breakthrough for this horrible cancer. Unfortunately it comes too late for my oldest friend who died from it almost a year ago. It was pretty much a year from diagnosis to dying.

Also in the works: a pancreatic cancer “vaccine” (actually a form of immunotherapy) by BioNTech, the company that partnered with Pfizer to produce the COVID vaccine that rivaled Moderna’s. Same mRNA technology that Moderna used for their melanoma vaccine. Early results are promising.

My father-in-law died a horrible death with pancreatic cancer. No one loved life and wanted to live more than he did. I hope this drug helps others have the chance at more living and time with those that love them.

My dad was an outlier who lived five years after his diagnosis, but it was an awful five years with treatments that most would say were worse than the disease. All criticisms of the drug in these replies are actually criticisms of capitalism.
