god please let the AI bubble burst soon, i know it's going to take half the economy with it i'm just sick of every tech product i use begging me to try their shitty fucking AI content generation

I just had a friend fail their course because they changed the "technologies" part of the curriculum to be an AI circlejerk. She used the required texts to instead criticise AI, and they gave her a 0 on two assessments for "not understanding the assessment". This shit needs to stop.

The biggest frustration to me has been how chasing AI has killed off any other innovation. I used to love keeping up with phone upgrades, new features and see what was coming. This year every phone - Samsung, Google, Apple - they all just said the new feature was "AI". Garbage.

I'm mostly excited because I plan on buying Three Mile Island when it goes up for a sheriff's auction. Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of owning a nuclear power plant and, by god, The Secret won't fail me now.

I considered getting a samsung watch recently to pair with my phone (look, I'm brain poisoned, okay) but every single feature screamed about how it was driven by AI and just. no. like I can't even think how some of them *could* use genAI and yet that's still the "selling point".

Absolutely, but (aside from just being annoying in a general sense) there seems to be a lot of stuff where what was a feature before "AI" is now locked behind giving up a ton of personal info/tracking to their datamining tools on the basis that they "need it" for it to work

The funniest possible outcome is all the crypto and AI bros who voted Trump have to sit and watch the entire tech industry collapse when he puts in 200% tariffs against China and everyone just stops buying consumer electronics

it won’t take any of the economy with it, nothing depends on that nonsense technology. a couple overvalued tech companies will collapse and some VC funds will lose a rounding error’s worth of money and move on to the next extractive bullshit.

No it'll take quite a bit of the economy this time. Just the amount that Capital has been dumping into it and the fact that almost all of our economic growth is driven by these tech companies... I think it's gonna matter when this bubble pops

Amazing they haven’t realized that no one wants it. Meanwhile they’ve invested near trillions collectively in their stupid race to provide it, so they need to convince us it’s Important but it’s not, it’s garbage.

Lol 100% only chatgpt works half way for composing documents, rest is garbage. AI coding its a beginers project. Call me when AI can do the laundry, walk the dog and real stuff, doing image mokups won't make it

A lot of the US economy top performing companies are in tech while the rest are mostly stable. So if it burst a lot of the economy will come crumbling down and we will all feel it. Also I want this to happen yesterday.

the worst part is like 99% of the websites/apps prompting you to use their shitty AI is there is no option to even turn it off or filter it out!!!!! trying to use google image search for general reference without getting inundated by slop has become near impossible

My recommendation would be to start adding "before: YYYY-MM-DD" to your searches, if you use Google! If I go to look for reference photos for, say, Cyberpunk art, I'll generally put: "Cyberpunk Art before:2021-01-01" and it filters out a big chunk of those AI sites. 😄

No, yes, please, every program I use, please add more AI prompt icons I have to maneuver around or repeatedly dismiss to your UI. I *love* having to remember to add “-ai” to the end of every Google search!

90% of what I see as "Ai" is just automated systems that were already in place with a shiny coat of Turd Polish. Copilot is just Clippy without the charm. I'm perfectly capable of writing a coherent and professional email because I'm a functioning adult.

Like they'll funnel so much into AI or Crypto horseshit, which is just guaranteed to not go anywhere, meanwhile some breakthroughs like Quantum Computing could probably use a ton more r&d money

I'm not saying it won't, but I think it's just as likely that it'll be annoying for a few years, ruin some useful tools, burn a bunch of rainforest, accomplish nothing useful or interesting, and then one day big tech will just get bored and move on without embarrassment, apology, or reflection.

It'll be almost erotic. Watching my 401k tank but knowing that by the next month "security updates" will strip every instance of AI from every one's apps. ... Look sometimes financial kink is a coping mechanism...

Generative machine learning is a dead end technology with very few consumer applications. There are plenty of less flashy applications for the technology such as in scientific research. But the problem is investors are fucking stupid and have chugged that corporate hype Kool aid

The good news is: Two years or less! Have an extensive and exhaustive article about it: bsky.app/profile/edzi...

Newsletter: We're at peak AI - generative AI models have hit the wall where they won’t improve much further thanks to a lack of training data, killer apps or any kind of sustainable business model. The results of a collapse could be catastrophic. wheresyoured.at/godot-isnt-making-it

The wider economy actually won't be hurt that bad - investors aren't borrowing heaps of money to risk on AI, so when the bubble pops they won't have to sell good investments to cover the losses. It'll take a chunk out of the tech cos and the S&P 500 in turn, but a recession isn't likely.

Chromebook ad with a skunk attack? You now have me searching for this.... 😂 Closest I could find sadly was just this hedgehog in the "Do more than you thought you could | The all new Chromebook Plus" video on the Chromebook YouTube channel 😂

I can't watch more than a couple of YouTube vids without seeing the ad, where a woman's Chromebook AI assistant is helping her find ways to avoid being sprayed by a skunk, while her friend outside is trying to befriend a skunk. Mostly it just tells us how AI is going to make society even stupider.

the thing about AI is every industry that needed it was already using it before chatgpt so anywhere that adopted it afterwards is just trying to make themselves seem hip to the times

tiktok already had an algorithm zendesk already had a keyboard shortcut to make your language more or less formal photoshop already knew how to select an object or whatever

I'm trying to buy a fucking *laptop*, and I can't find one that doesn't have some tedious, pointless, half arsed AI bloatware installed just so that they can advertise AI on the box. Nobody normal knows what it is, or cares. Of the people who *do* know what it is, 75% hate it!!

atm i don't see it being particularly damaging to the economy when the bubble bursts, it should only really take down the AI-hawking-only companies once everyone realizes it's a huge waste of money.
