Hey #medsky it’s time to stand up for trans rights. The option to be “non political” is gone when the basic practice of medicine is under attack from one party.

See also the British Labour Party - the UK's policies are *worse* than this. Wesley Streeting is actually setting social services on families that use private providers.

The Labour Party’s strategy of “Blue Labour” is precisely what David Shor/Matt Y/Simon Bazelon advocated and it’s resulted in the least popular British government in history. Both the far right Reform Party and the Greens are outflanking then

Yes. It's just made the party look both weak and unpleasant. It's incredibly jarring - if they try to take the moral high ground, they look like hypocrites. If they try to act tough it's pathetic and insincere. And both sides hate them for it.

It sounds like this means hospitals that treat transgender youth in any way cannot receive payments from Medicare/Medicaid for any treatment of any patients at all. If a trans teenager breaks their arm & goes to the ER, Medicare won't pay for a totally separate patient's open heart surgery. Right?

This report did not cite our best evidence, and no one is even brave enough to put their name on it. In short, it is primarily bunk, and no basis for policy affecting children's safety and mental health! That should be part of NPR's reporting.

How do they expect to define gender affirming care? If a patient who is under 18 comes into a hospital with injury or sickness and needs to keep on their hormone regiment during a hospital stay.. is that considered gender affirming care? Surgery for gynomastia ? Is that gender affirming care too?

This is the threat they’ve been holding over hospitals since January. So many have already complied in advance. Including in states like Washington where gender affirming care is mandated for coverage. It doesn’t help if the providers quit providing.

100% agree. They don’t like that they can’t “tell” (prey vs rival.) And for toxic men who already hate women, a trans woman is just too much. My magat bro can’t stop saying dumb, horrible things about trans women. It reeks of he met a trans woman, liked her, and hates her (all women) for it.

These people are monsters. Obsessed with destroying a micro-minority of Americans just because they can. And this just the starting point for this kind of targeting.

Long past time for the medical professionals to drop the Hippocratic Oath and refuse to provide treatment for any administration officials or legislators who push this crap. Treat them as the social pariahs they are.

This makes me cry for all the people it negatively affects. ALL medical decisions should be left up to patients with guidance from appropriately trained health care professionals. The government has no right to touch us, decide for us, force us. #FuckTrump #FuckMaga

Anyone who continues to support the GOP after this can no longer claim to be pro-life. This policy will kill trans kids (no matter who insures them) AND cis people on medicare and medicaid (whether they support trans rights or not). The GOP is very much the anti-life party.

Murderers and child rapists in prison get medical attention. But go around wearing clothes that aren't coordinated with your genitalia, and America thinks you aren't fit to receive healthcare. This is what dehumanising a minority leads to. Anyone who voiced anti-trans sentiments should feel shame.

Is it really true that such a pronouncement from the WH actually becomes law? They can actually stop payments like this? Really? America isn't anymore.

Christians really, really hate their LGBTQ+ children. They know that if one of their children comes out, then they will be treated like shit by the rest of their church community. They love their bigoted church more than they love their own children.

They'd rather mourn a dead child that they can imagine their idealized potential future of (no matter if it goes against their child's actual wishes), than have their child be alive and not following the teachings of their cult as fervently as they do. Pure fucking murderous death-cult delusion.

The hospital at which I work, Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC capitulate to this monstrous demand. I have been looking for a new job as they ignored all my correspondence asking for clarity from the Board as to why they have abandoned evidenced based care.

To be clear, this is illegal and unconstitutional for so many reasons, and it’s only being allowed because the republicans flat-out refuse to stop Trump and his hateful administration from pushing out completely unconstitutional decrees.

According to what policy proposals? I haven’t heard or seen a single Democrat talk about revoking the protections of ANY groups of people, let alone the LGBTQ+ community. I’ve only seen democrats sponsor bills to protect people from being discriminated against get blocked or rejected by the GOP

Democrats have put forward bills that would make conversion therapy illegal, make it illegal for doctors to refuse gender transition or surgery to remove reproductive organs, and provide kids with private showers/changing rooms so they don’t need to be naked in front of peers or teachers all blocked

So a trans kid breaks their leg and no hospital will be allowed to treat them or it risks losing all Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements? Doesn't that also violate EMTALA? This is supervillain-level insane cruelty.

I mean, my first reaction would be surely not, a broken leg has nothing to do with 'gender affirming care'. But with this lot, who the hell knows? (and yeah, I know, don't call me Shirley)

Gynomastia (excessive breast tissue in men) can be removed and chest reconstructed. This could easily be considered gender affirming care. This could impact cis gendered men also. Or breast reduction in women.

But that transgender kid maybe taking daily hormones and those may be with held with consequences for a patient. Or may be roomed with someone who doesn't match their gender. 18 year olds are not on a Peds unit. Violation of their rights as a patient

I'm pretty sure it's just gender affirming care, but that will embolden doctors to do things like ordering a trans kid brought in w broken leg to stop taking their HRT, and flag them as a "difficult patient" (I forget the term they use) if they don't, making it harder to access other care

Of course that's already a thing that can happen, along with all kinds other medical discrimination against trans people of all ages. But this would make those problems worse and more prevalent And they definitely won't stop with kids

In many urgent care intakes, remotely presenting as female earns you a hard to refuse pregnancy test, regardless of reason for visit. A lot of doctors will argue that patients lie, ignorant to their health, and/or symptoms+treatment may be affected. Why improve protocol, they're just incubators.

I think it’s pretty clear that they are talking about barring any hospital that provides gender affirming care from receiving Medicaid or Medicare which is bad enough and also going to affect cis kids if they don’t make exceptions. It’s ridiculously cruel.

damn, that's absurd. 🤬 I'm so sorry, that sucks. I was thinking as I was reading along that it reminded me a bit of the way fat people often go to the dr & no matter what their complaint is it gets associated with their weight. Sure enough, at the end of the article they mention that too. IDIOCY.

This hopefully will be the argument. A trans kid taking HRT or blockers gets sick or is injured needing hospitalization - would the hospital be able to continue providing medication while hospitalized? My 16 yr old takes daily medication - what would that look like?

It would be "transgender related" services, from what can be gleaned. So a broken leg would be fine, probably, although if you were a minor on HRT any blood test that showed "incongruent" hormone levels might flag the clause. No trans kid will receive therapy tho, that's a guarantee.

To clarify the latter: If a child is in an intake for therapy and any kind of gender identity related topic came up, it would likely be required of the therapist or facility to tell them because they are under medicaid, they cannot discuss those issues with the child. Making it functionally useless.

what age defines "youth" here? if they're using the deranged, obviously outlandish claim of "anyone getting HRT under age 25 is too young" I'm going to fucking vomit

I'm sure that's what they want. They want no GAC until 18, then talk about brain development at 25, then say there's not enough research and that we need like another 50 years of research, then when the person is 75 they're like "You might as well stay what you were assigned"

Fuck everyone who voted for this guy because you thought he'd improve the economy. Fuck every dem/leftist who continues to coddle fascists running or in office.

This is it y’all. The genocide against the transgender population in this country is now in full legal force. If you have transgender children, get out of the country as soon as you can.

My God. How much more horror can this administration roll out? Kids and adults and their families! I’m appalled and hope that some organization can take them to court and stop this.

I do believe that the people who support this policy should also refrain from using Andy gender affirming medical procedure. So if you are a man and you believe in this policy, no gender affirming treatments or medication should be provided to you www.thehastingscenter.org/news/gender-...

thehastingscenter.orgGender-Affirming Care for Cisgender People: Q&A with Theodore Schall and Jacob MosesThe term "gender-affirming care" is almost always applied to treatment for transgender people, but an article in the current issue of the Hastings Center

So the White House is anxious to see trans kids die. This is a deliberate decision. God have mercy on this man’s soul and everyone else who is part of this evil vile administration.

But if a hospital asks you to wear a mask during a pandemic they freak out and raise holy hell about no one can tell them what to do. Funny how the "don't tread on me" crowd loves to tread on people. What's stopping any hospital from claiming anyone is trans and denying care? Walgreens-esque.

Here's the headline: The White House plans to bar hospitals that treat children and youth from getting any Medicare and Medicaid payments. The move would affect youth who have private insurance, too.

It may be more difficult to get treatment but won’t stop the majority from seeking it. The theory seems to be it’s just a phase and if denied treatment they’ll just move on and get over it. But Caitlyn Jenner’s case is instructive since she obviously never got gender dysphoria treatment as a youth.

Regardless of where people stand, this would have real effects on families and hospitals. What’s the right balance between policy, ethics, and personal care? #HealthEquity #PolicyDebate #TransRights #Medicaid #PublicHealth

So let me understand this: if your transgender kid has appendicitis, no hospital will be allowed to treat them, on pain of losing Medicare and Medicaid payments? If I have a stroke, I'm to pray that the nearest hospital has allowed some trans child to die, so that Medicare will pay for my treatment?

Sulzberger’s nyt waged a relentless campaign to spread medical disinformation and legitimize anti-trans hate in the 2 years before the election. He demonized a vulnerable population who pose no threat to anyone while ignoring the clear threat to democracy itself. It was his in-kind donation to trump

1) Restrictions on women’s reproductive healthcare are typically justified through religious doctrine, where moral authority is claimed through appeals to sacred texts. Limitations imposed on Black communities historically and contemporarily are grounded in racial hierarchy narratives.

3) It is not rooted in theology, nor in an articulated ethical philosophy. Instead, it is anchored in a form of ignorance that is both deliberate and self-sustaining. This ignorance functions as a protective mechanism for individuals unwilling to engage.

4) In this sense, anti-trans sentiment is not merely a product of misunderstanding; it represents a refusal of knowledge — a conscious retreat into intellectual simplicity in order to avoid the discomfort that accompanies social and scientific complexity.
