I find it even more disturbing that they name Mamdani a socialist. He's not. He's a social democrat. "Social democracy is originally a parliamentary variant of the broader socialist movement, which aims to achieve a more equal society through elections and reforms of capitalism."

Socialism does seek public control of all productive property. Social Democracy is fine with private property, with public provision where superior and regulation for public benefit. Democratic Socialism aims for socialism through ballot box. Communism accepts revolution for a socialist state.

That's deliberate. The right has been polluting the language by repeating the idea that the two are synonymous for decades.
