Like most of the House, Mike Johnson has only been there in the Trump era. It’s not simply that he’s abdicating his power as a coequal branch, it’s that he doesn’t seem to understand that it *is* a coequal branch.

WELKER: MTG says you're '100% under the direct orders of the WH' JOHNSON: The president and I work closely together because we have unified govt. That's what the American people voted for W: Is there any area where you disagree? J: Yes. But we do that privately. I'm going to support my president.

"the most productive in all the history of Congress". Sure Mikey. That's the Trump recipe; when you lie, lie big, the bigger the better. The House was on holiday for months at a time. Choosing Mikey as speaker took multiple votes. The House was a castrated, fearful, docile tool of Trump. Pathetic.

Congress is not co-equal, and we need to end the Wilsonian / Nixonian lie that it is. Congress is Article I. They are supposed to have way more power. Our system has Congressional supremacy, and it would be great if they acted like it ~ ever.

Fusion of legislative and executive powers through partisanship, like a parliamentary system. Except: 1. The legislative leadership is an extension of the executive, the reverse of parl. systems. 2. Less party unity on policy.

Mike Johnson admits there that it is the people who are accountable and responsible for all electoral outcomes....that's more than the populist left will do. Trump was the first non-incumbent Republican to win the popular vote in 44 years...just fifteen months ago. A swing state clean sweep 😗

We have a congress full of MAGAs. Which has been in the making since before Trump’s first term. These folks didn’t suddenly appear when Trump came back in 2024, they were already in place to roll out the red carpet for his return.

Pretending an eager fascist is just a poor ignorant helpless soul swept along by forces beyond his control gives credence and power to fascism. Johnson has a law degree and has worked toward this goal his entire professional life. He knows exactly what he is doing and why.

I will however let you know that one disagreement we had was whether it is pedophilia to have a 13 year old give you a blow job. I always said no and we disagreed. But when Trump said she bit him then I agree it is all okay.

No, Johnson is right here. The people DID vote for this. And yes they DID vote for a de facto dictator. T made it very clear that was his offer. Voters took it. Stop blaming the employees and blame the managers. Voters need to do better. Period

Oh he knows, he’s not stupid. He also knows that if he does or says anything that may be confused with him having a spine he will get removed from his position immediately (ask Kevin McCarthy) HE IS ACTIVELY CHOOSING TO BE A PUPPET. 😐

It’s NOT a coequal branch! The founders made the legislative branch MORE powerful than the executive. Yes, there are spheres of power in which the other branches can check the legislature, but it was given the most important powers (like the purse) because we wanted a weak executive

Unless you're owned, which Johnson is, its not the role of Congress to support the president at all costs and never disagree in public. Nixon resigned because he lost support of congressional Republicans who said they'd join Dems in supporting impeachment and removal. He was cooked and he knew it.

trump sycophant Mike Johnson lying noting many voters unaware pathological lying felon insurrectionist serial adulterer failed businessman trump LIED to voters ⤵️ Mainstream media recited his lies⤵️ putting this moron back in White House to destroy our democracy Now he’ll try to stop #2026election

More importantly, it’s NOT supposed to be a coequal branch. Congress is in Article I for a reason. It alone is supposed to set policy for the nation. The executive is only supposed to implement congressional policy.

Little Mike calls an overt racist, misogynist, grifter, convicted felon, Russian asset, seditious traitor, and narcissistic psychopath “MY PRESIDENT.” Little Mike also calls himself a “Christian” Ain’t that some shit?

Oh for the days of a Speaker who would stare down the POTUS, who sought the chair BECAUSE of it's status opposite the person in the Oval Office. Tip O'Neill is spinning in his grave.

This is directionaly correct, but wrong. Congress (Article 1) is the superior branch. For example, only Congress can remove members of other branches. If Congess doesn't want the courts to have jurisdiction over something they can strip jurisdiction. That's why Johnson's position is even worse.

“Doesn’t seem to understand” is granting him a benefit of the doubt his actions show he doesn’t deserve. He is choosing to make Congress subservient, actively advancing the anti-democracy project.

Mike Johnson might possibly not have understood the structure of the Constitution and separated powers before he was elevated to speaker but he does by now Relatedly Trump's inadequate cognition is real but still mainly downstream of his malice and depraved indifference btw Congress is>coequal

And he doesn’t seem to understand its vital role as a check on the other branches to sustain a balance of power. Our founders worried about sycophants like Mike Johnson.

The status of an institution doesn't matter whatsoever if what you actually believe in is an ideology and the main pusher of that ideology happens to be in some other institution. Unless your main ideology is instituationalism, such comparisons are almost quaint.

It's a bullshit argument that he essentially repeated during this interview without any meaningful pushback by Welker. That's the story much of the American public isn't aware of regarding Republican efforts to steal the 2020 election. Johnson broke his oath to faithfully discharge his duties.

He lies about Georgia but tells Welker he doesn't want to re-litigate the issue and Welker is happy to oblige him. We have a display of more than one institution failing to uphold their obligations in this interview.
