Post

Thank you for sharing this! I follow some 80 people, but my Following feed is literally just Jon Cryer, and the Discover feed couldn't possibly be any less relevant to me. For you is actually fun. I'm happy. Yay! ♥

not to talk trash on the implementation, but one look at that feed illustrates what's wrong with the premise: showing me posts that other people who like similar posts have liked, but that *I* haven't, just shows me the posts from my mutuals that I'm most unenthusiastic about

Hey, I like a weener as much as the next (probably not straight) guy, but that's not what I use Bluesky for 🤣 I hope some of those great algorithms get merged to make discover better 😁

it really needs "feed feedback" to work better! i want to use it more but it feels a lot more stale which i think is because it's unaware of what i've seen

+1 Consider hiding the already seen posts on the client side so that you don't have to expose who has seen what to the feed owners. That would be a cleaner solution from the privacy perspective. I got multiple requests to hide posts from the follows.

I just tried your feed. Works great in general! Would it be possible to filter all accounts I already follow?

Also if you want to have multiple feeds the only way to coordinate seens is client side. I think to make people use > 1 recommender all the time youd need something like that

I don't understand the problem with feeds knowing what you've seen. They know what you've loaded so why would you worry if they know whether you've viewed it?

also not a fan of that option because I don't want to basically have to lose posts like that just because I've already seen them once. I might want to go back for some reason. And that's a lot of clicks/time/energy

this already happens for muted settings and it breaks my read detection logic, since i lose the ability to map a feed response 1:1 to an actual feed entry in the bsky client. worst case it turns 50 posts into 5, requests the next cursor immediately and it breaks logic +

i don't think that's actually a good solution because the client would have to keep paginating more and more aggressively (since the feed will not know not to return already seen posts), spamming the server. it's maybe a workaround that can work sometimes but imo the server needs to be aware

may I shamelessly plug my feed, which is something I’ve been wanting since before bluesky and was finally able to build it myself 💃 the anti-algorithm, no rules no learning no nothing. a purely random shuffle of all your friends’ posts

I think it's something wrong with my PDS, since it keeps giving me Bad Gateway errors everytime the client fetches your feed hopefully I'll be able to try out the feed soon, since it does sound nice 🙏

Embracing the randomness takes me back about 15 years when I had a script that once a week would empty a Twitter list and add five random users. For one week I'd get an insight into someone's feed that I wouldn't normally. No virality, just mundane posts like mine.

anecdotally, doesn't look random to me, of the first 30, all that weren't reposts (not sure if there's a way to surface when a repost was made) came from within the past 24 hrs? I know its a small sample size, but some of these people have been posting for years so I'd expect to see something older.

I already use the ‚for you‘ feed. It works great, but I would prefer that it filters posts of follows. The purpose I use it for is to discover NEW accounts. I already asked the dev if it would be possible, but it seems not so easy to implement.

Thanks for the sharing this. I personally don’t recommend Discover to anyone. It constantly shows you things you don’t want to see despite blocking and using “See Less Often”

Have y'all considered overhauling the feed discovery page? They're currently sorted by likes and the page has featured the same feeds for about a year, so it's pretty stale. Would be nice if the list rotated over time with e.g. a basic decay algo or stuff like community featured feeds

Please add drag and drop to the feed tab bar, it’s annoying to have to go to another page to re-order the feeds and it makes me not want to add more or use them also a long press to unpin them

feeds that can be posted to there’s “feed logic can scan for words or hashtags” but that is prey to spammers stuffing keywords/hashtags Want more of a “you sub to this type of feed, you have the option to share your post with this feed or post to it, mods can remove you if they don’t like you”

Feeds should have an ability for user to input their preferences, like a system prompt. And third party feeds can't use the "Less like this" either. Imagine you could write a text that describes what you want the feed to do, then the feed author could use that text to try to adjust the algo.

A golang binary + sqlite. Consumes jetstream firehose and stores likes/posts/reposts as "ratings". All recommendation building happens at serving time - no precalculations. At serving time reads your last 500 liked posts => for each post: reads the first 1000 people who liked it *before* you
