I was in an airport lounge napping and someone said my name and I looked up and it was a guy talking to his wife about my latest book, completely unaware that I was 20 feet away until I groggily said THAT'S ME, which was probably weird for them to have suddenly manifested an author out of thin air

I was in an airport lounge once where I was sure I knew the guy a few chairs away. Being me I start chatting away, where do I know you from etcetera. Convo lasts about an hour. As the flight is called I ask, btw I’m Beth, and you are? Ted Danson. Nicest guy ever.

What are the odds?! Pretty close to 1:1 for you, now and again. Pretty close to extremely long for the other guy 😂

I was in a hospital lobby, just reading stuff on my iPad. Some people a few rows over were talking loudly and said "God's going to get you for that." I calmly put my iPad down, looked them in their eyes, said "Nah, I'm okay with that," and resumed my iPad work. They skulked off rather quickly.

I passed a guy sitting alone on a laptop in LAX and went "you look a lot like Cory Doctorow" and he said "I am Cory Doctorow" and I went "Cool" and gave him a thumbs up, and then left him alone.

Two surprises for me were 1) meeting Tom Power from CBC radio (his show is called Q). He was just as open, interesting, and genuine in person as he was on his show. 2) Meeting Tom Wilson from Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and part of his family. Open, welcoming, and down to earth. Great people.

I sat next to one of the news anchors on my local network on a flight home from somewhere and I kept thinking "I know I know that guy," but it just did not click until FINALLY someone else came up and said, "Are you?" and I hope he was amused instead of offended.

Rowan Atkinson tells a story about a guy telling him he looked JUST LIKE the guy who plays Mr. Bean. Atkinson said, “well, actually I am the guy who plays Mr. Bean.” The guy responds with “and you’re funny like him, too.” Dude refused to believe he was Rowan Atkinson.

I definitely startled the shit out of a podcaster I like once, when I recognized him and asked if he would take a picture with me on a completely not-podcast-related boat tour where I spotted him. (He was very (pleasantly!) confused and very nice about it.)

I was at SFO, waiting for a connector, watching Breaking Bad on my tablet when someone came up behind me, grabbed my shoulders and said, "That's the best damn show ever!" When I turned to see who it was, It was Brian Cranston, he waved at me and walked on.

I like to think that my response would be:"I'm not sure I can trust your answer on this but am I hallucinating?". When in fact it would probably be "Holy Shit it's John Scalzi. I love your work and how is that private campground thing working out?"

I ran into Jon Singer at an airport once when he asked me what my Southwest boarding number was and then we recognized each other and sat together on the plane. Good times. Also ran into my high school boyfriend on a street in Reykjavik once.

I ran into an old school.... buddy? We weren't friends but we weren't enemies and we were in the same school K-12, so...... but I ran into him inside a Top Secret clearance military intelligence facility about 6 years after high school, that was bizarre

Did Jon then take you to the hidden restaurant in the airport with the most amazing dumplings, where he swears he has never before beeen but all the staff treat him like family and serve you in the kitchen while conversing in a language that none of you share?

I was on the TGV to Paris with my very young colleague on her first trip. She squealed, jumped up and approached an elderly, handsome man across from us. "are you Boutros Boutros-Ghali?" "yes, I am. And you are?" Niche Geneva Fandom, but she was EXTRA cute and I bet he had a little moment..

I was walking down high st in Columbus once before a concert and someone approached us when I wasn’t really looking and ask if we were looking for him… the him.. Weird Al. He saw our “We want Al” sign all of our friends signed to give him. Ended up having lunch with him. Great guy for sure

I was once in line at an ice cream shop on Charles St. in Boston & there was a guy ahead of me I was sure I knew. We got to chatting & after a bit I asked him if I had run into him at one of my usual haunts and he said no, but I might have seen him in City Slickers. It was Josh Mostel. V. nice guy.

When I worked at a news outlet, I was running up the stairs late back from lunch, and I glanced at the top and saw a friendly guy who looked so familiar, like someone's uncle. Only when Roslyn stepped next to him did I realize it was Jimmy Carter.
