When booze-serving establishments become nuisances for neighbors, licensing is precisely the leverage point to keep/hold proprietors accountable. In these cases, hotel guests aren’t merely rowdy or disruptive: they’re killing civilians. And dead people can’t boycott.

Proximity matters. When armed federal agents are concentrated (and consuming alcohol) in a hotel and operate nearby, the community bears the risk. Zoning, liquor licensing, and nuisance law exist to address harms that spill outward. I’m not here to debate abstractions: people are being harmed.

Suspect the other guests wish they'd known who else was staying before they booked their stay, but agree it is unfair to them as I expect they could use a drink or two! I support what the city council is doing and am just proposing arguments they might use in court if it goes that far.

Legitimate governmental oversight and regulation. Hangovers lead masked thugs to engage in anti-social, unconstitutional behavior to the detriment of average Minneapolis citizens.

That’s some creative REPUBLICAN-like tactics!! 👏🏼 I don’t know who’s who on that Council, but I have been screaming that Dems NEED to get creative—let precedent be damned—like they do. In general, oppo legislators need to be unscrupulous, creative, and fight fire with fire.

It’s a good start. The city of Minneapolis administers the following public utilities and services: 1. Drinking Water Supply & Distribution 2. Sanitary Sewer System 3. Stormwater Management 4. Solid Waste & Recycling Collection Shut it all down!

Love this creative resistance! As someone who grew up in Wisconsin, I understand what a liquor license means to a Midwest hotel and how much this hurts, fight like hell from all angles! And, thank you for your epic reporting throughout this crisis - you are informing the nation and world!

I feel so bad for the hotel staff who have to deal with these lugnuts. For their sake I’m glad liquor is not served there. I hope all their sheets are changed with dirty sets, their pancakes are made with salt, their key cards never work, wake up calls come in at 2am, towels stink, vacuuming at 3am.

OMG. I love this. Having Marriott or Hyatt remove your franchise is bad, but having your liquor license pulled is the kiss of death, I should think. bsky.app/profile/star...

I like thinking outside the box, but they better get the GoFundMe ready to pay for the settlement. The hotels are following the liquor laws, as written; the city won’t be able to take these away (or use their renewal as a leverage piece for other changes)

One can almost hear the creaking of MAGA fainting couches now. “How *dare* you use our Glorious Leader's intimidation tactics like withholding funding and other things from establishments whose politics you disagree with?”

Health department wise it appears this hotel contains some sort of deadly disease vector. Quarantine measures similar to what might be done for a tuberculosis outbreak seems to be in order.

“Not with hold from businesses already suffering” they aren’t or shouldn’t be fucking suffering the tax payers are paying for the stay. Bullshit excuse. They chose to get in bed with the devil. Fuck those businesses. Guarantee ICE is fucking up those rooms too.

Hide the Michelob Golden Draft Light! They don’t get any of that goodness!! 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

Yesssss. YOU are the State. Show them collaboration those who harm your people has consequences. I think the water mains on that block need inspecting too. You never know with all this cold.
