Susan Collins announcing she'll vote against a controversial nominee is basically the moment it becomes clear that nominee will be confirmed. It means Thune has enough votes to confirm, and thus, Collins gets a pass to look independent.

They say every regulation is written in blood, but that's not true. Some are actually written in violent, painful diarrhea.

If you want a "Trump cancelled a gov't program that made this outbreak worse" thing to be mad about, there's a much better one! Trump's FDA + Congress cancelled a program that actually WAS going to allow rapid ID of where outbreaks came from. www.marlerblog.com/case-news/ta...

1/ Two misconceptions are doing most of the work in the Moda Center debate: "The city owns the arena, so the city pays for it." "The Blazers and the arena operator are the same thing." Both are wrong. The state's own comp report shows why. Let's fix them. 🧵

Hey Oregon Legislature: Ohio passed the Modell Law after losing the Browns. We can do the same for the Blazers–especially since we own the Rose Garden now.

After ICE deported Wendy Hernandez Reyes, it turned her 3-year-old son Orlin over to her sister’s estranged partner, who tortured Orlin and beat him to death. I can’t say what I think should happen to those responsible without violating this website’s TOS. www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/...

Some time ago, I’m not sure when, higher ed started to be understood as an individual benefit rather than a collective one. My guess is that shift happened in tandem with the drop in public funding. Reagan era? A major loss whenever & yet another trend in need of reversal.

Oregon was supposed to elect its DAs today. But literally none of the elections on the ballot drew multiple opponents. (Worth spending a moment thinking of the elections NOT happening!) boltsmag.org/oregon-uncon...

All the partisan gerrymandering was always (in part) racial gerrymandering, because the parties' politics were always (in part—but large part) about race. So when you tell Southern legislatures "you can do partisan gerrymandering, but no racial gerrymandering," they know it means they can do both.

Most of us can see clearly that a desire to control women (including free license to abuse) is at the heart of MAGA's project but we're told not to say too much about this because we need to be appealing to lonely young men.

There's no question that the worst of the Jan. 6 criminals are domestic terrorists. And there's no question that Trump and the rest of the Republican Party support them. The GOP is a traitorous, criminal organization betraying our democracy and the rule of law.

I said this in replies elsewhere, but I want to say it loudly here. Anything other than a fullthroated affirmation of birthright citizenship in this country by SCOTUS is an act of treason. It is grounds for immediate impeachment. It is a violation of every oath they have made.

On some level I’m not sure my mind can quite grasp the raw stupidity of conducting a massive decapitation strike against Iran with no day two plan whatsoever, and then immediately finding yourself in a worldwide energy crisis with no off-ramp because you didn’t expect Iran to react

As a career public defender, the facts on this really matter. Trump invoked Iryna Zarutska—a Ukrainian refugee murdered on a Charlotte train—to attack immigrants. The suspect is a U.S. citizen with mental health issues who was passed by transit security that night.

Remember kids, nobody has to give the other 11 jurors a speech about what jury nullification is, they can just say “I dunno, prosecution’s story isn’t adding up,” and “sure, maybe, but the judge said ‘beyond reasonable doubt,’ does anyone else have reasonable doubts this was the guy?”
