It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

The Heritage Foundation laid out how they were going to rescind Title IX, the law that prohibits sex discrimination in education, by first targeting trans people's participation in sport. Capitulating on the human rights of transgender people is catastrophically falling at the first hurdle.

i am genuinely bewildered by people who say that the rise of white nationalism in the republican party is a response to the "woke left." like, did the woke left cause pat buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign? is the woke left why steve king had a long career in congress?

the fact that the NTSB is conducting a federal safety investigation of the helicopter crash, but nobody is going to do anything about the original deadly car crash, really shows just how few fucks our country gives about every day traffic violence that kills 40k people every year

Nihar Shah did a heroic experiment for TMLR: he spent 20-25 hours over two weeks interviewing authors of seemingly low-quality submissions about their own papers. He confirmed what we all suspected: people submitting these papers have *no idea* what is going on in them.

TMLR has faced a deluge of submissions, necessitating stricter desk rejection policies due to limited reviewer capacity Co-EiC Nihar Shah reached out to authors of 10 papers slated for desk reject. Could they answer questions about their *own* submission? medium.com/@TmlrOrg/ask...

May I politely suggest that the correct response to people voting for fascists is not, "how can we feel their pain and listen?" but "what the hell is wrong with these arrogant fools?" The latter is still a quest for understanding, but in the correct frame, I think.

Blue state AGs should be warning postal officials that they will face felony prosecution for election interference for any legal ballots diverted and not delivered. Separate felony counts for every single ballot mishandled and not delivered. We would expect no less if private citizens stole ballots

When professors say they are scared of contracts they are telling on themselves: revealing that they are unable to be vulnerable even in the slightest way, unable to have normal human relationships based on mutual trust. Afraid of their students. Honestly very sad.

The authentic relationship comes first and the mentorship follows, not the other way around. The contract makes it *easier* to trust since *both parties* have protection *in case* of abuse.

We wrote it that way anyways (under advice of counsel) because the purpose is *to have something to appeal to in case of abuse*, not to actually enforce an arbitrary limit none of us care about precisely.

I could find many ways in which my students are not exactly satisfying terms of employment, and I'm sure they could dig up ways to burn me too. But we don't bring it to a legal battle because we have trust, give grace, and communicate feedback. And this is normal! Normal human relationships!

If you establish mutual trust, good intent, and two-was communication, there is nothing to fear from a contract. And if you are not willing to extend trust, why should you expect it in return? (Or why are you working with people you don't trust?)

My wife and I co-own our 2-unit house with another couple. We have a contract that says we each can't have more than one pet. When we wrote that contract, we were already in violation of it.

If this was about electoral advantage — the thing reactionary centrists claim as their expertise — they would be writing about how this entire issue is a distraction. If you are concerned about the influence of fringe radicals over policymaking, Republicans are the bigger threat. Of course they are.
