No end in sight to the cost of Trump's crazy forever war. He is going to end up as the most unpopular and reviled President in US history and UK voters need to be extremely careful not to fall for the same lies by backing Farage's friends of billionaires. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Reading the details of the US execution story from last night and it is absolute barbarism. Like reading a history of the medieval period.

I was around in the 1970s. I don't recall even the most rightwing Tory politicians downplaying National Front marches as some kind of justifiable expression of popular discontent.

Even leaving any politics at all aside: as general rule, no state can allow a group of masked men to be able to close down critical infrastructure. This is basic stuff.

Astonishing to hear people say they'd rather asylum seekers drowned than be saved by the RNLI. Next comes letting people die in burning hostels rather than be saved by the fire brigade and letting people get kicked to death in the street rather than be saved by the Police. Don't platform this hate.

Any politician calling to leave the ECHR is lying about what that will achieve. It won’t solve any problem or improve our lives It will make us worse off and remove our rights. Just like Brexit. The ECHR belongs to us all. It’s not theirs to take. Please sign www.europeanmovement.co.uk/echr-petition

I said I wouldn't criticise Burnham just for the sake of it but his silence needs to be called out. Starmer was endlessly criticised for not immediately responding to any given situation. I've no problem with Burnham not immediately taking to the airwaves, but he's had plenty of time to respond.

1. The climate won’t wait for us to feel brave talking about it. 2. Pick a side. Make it the one backed up by the science. 3. Grow a spine. You have everything to lose. 4. No more ‘treading a fine line’. It’s all in. Now, or never.

theguardian.comHow can we talk about this extreme weather now that it’s a battleground in the culture wars? | Andy BeckettWeather forecasts once gave Britons something safe to chat about. Not any more, and that’s a problem for the experts – indeed, for all of us, says Guardian columnist Andy Beckett

As we face prolonged heatwaves, please watch out for elderly neighbours. There's a real risk they'll corner you and try to talk about legendary heatwaves that never did them any harm when they were young, before sunscreen was invented, when they lived inside an active volcano.

In 2015, Royal Mail was privatised. In 2017, it missed delivery targets and has never met them since. Yet again we see 'the superior efficiency of the private sector' in action.

As you boil in the heat, never forget that all those people who for decades have deliberately and maliciously disrupted efforts to tackle climate change are probably sitting comfortable in their large air conditioned houses. Houses funded on the back of lies/misinformation they helped propagate.

Condemning riots isn't enough. We need policy action, including an immediate appraisal of X as a vehicle for coordinating far-right disorder. And we need political leadership, to challenge white nationalism as an idea, not to validate it daily and then complain when it turns violent.

MPs are currently allowed to drink discounted drinks just steps away from voting on our futures. Taxpayers cover the millions lost by Parliament's catering services every year just to keep their private bars open, while we’re paying more than a fiver a pint down our local.

Angela Rayner was dragged through every front page for weeks... HMRC's verdict: NOT deliberate. NOT even careless. Farage pockets £5 million and chooses not to declare it So where's the wall-to-wall coverage? Tell me this isn't a rigged game.

Crazy isn't it Jeremy Corbyn's Labour party had an 'antisemitism crisis' and now Zack Polanski's Green Party does. While Nigel Farage's Reform party, with Nigel Farage and loads of Nazi lovers, doesn't. It's like it's some kind of scam used against Left Wing parties.

The populist right don't give a crap about solving real societal problems. Just running a cretinous pantomime for people who mistake “owning the libs” for improving their own lives — while the men at the top quietly fill their pockets and walk away richer than ever.

Interesting reference just now to "the left-leaning Daily Mirror" on the Today Programme. I hope this practice is going to become routine, & that we'll be reminded of the political affiliations of The Daily Telegraph, The Mail, The Sun, The Express & The Times. It would actually be quite healthy.

Imagine choosing the death of democracy over a tax hike. Billionaires would rather let the world starve than lose a fraction of their hoard. It’s not just greed; it’s an abomination.

Now.. very slowly for those at the back… Who wins when states go to war and when politicians promote fossil fuels over renewables and push to scrap Net Zero? Because it isn’t us. Our bills don’t go down. Our planet doesn’t get prioritised. Our futures don’t get safer. (Sky News)

Reform really should be an absolute gift to a sitting government. Deeply target-rich opposition leader who is badly tainted by Trump. Back rank of even more unlikeable characters. Real nervousness among voters about them. That Labour is still doing so badly shows exactly why Starmer needs to go

Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet. This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.

Perhaps the American Congress could do us all a favour and spell out what behaviours they would impeach Trump for because frankly most of us feel there’s nothing left. I’d be interested to know exactly what depravity they are waiting for.

"A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again." Donald Trump's instability is more clear and dangerous than ever. If the Cabinet is not willing to invoke the 25th Amendment and restore sanity, Republicans must reconvene the Congress to end this war.
