There is only one solution that will save these jobs and put Canada back in the driver's seat: we need to nationalize Stelco.

Benjamin Boles reposted

The American CEO who bought Stelco is openly admitting that he purchased the company to sabotage it. This is why the Liberals should have never approved Stelco's sale in the first place. When you give away ownership of a critical industry like steel, your economy is forever under another's thumb.

Cleveland-Cliffs CEO: I bought Stelco because I could not afford anymore having Stelco flooding the market here in the United States to the detriment of my own company. David Cochrane: Am I understanding you correctly there? It was a defensive acquisition?

Trump/Musk/MAGA don't realise that their ability to influence world events by holding other countries hostage through tech shutdowns is rapidly diminishing. This was always a one-off strategy. Once you actually use it then all the calculations change.

Yeah, this is really bad. It's good that El-Sayed distanced himself from it, but I am in awe at how Cenk's left-wing PAC managed to combine antisemitism with transphobia and pitch it as *supporting* the Democrat in this race.

As importantly, all of the Olivia Chow-aligned incumbent councillor and most of the Chow-aligned candidates (all endorsed by the pressure group Progress Toronto) are winning their races. Council was a big barrier for her agenda for the last three years and it’ll be a bit easier now.

Olivia Chow has received the highest number of votes of any Mayoral Candidate in Toronto history. Prior to this the high was Mel Lastman with 483,277 in 2000. She has recieved 523,641 and counting. More votes than *any* elected rep at *every* level of government in Canada has *ever* gotten.

Benjamin Boles reposted

Don’t know if this has been said yet, but Olivia Chow is the first mayor to ever receive over 500,000 votes

Benjamin Boles reposted

How much did Olivia Chow exceed expectations? (Worth saying she was always expected to win.) She's gotten the most votes of any Toronto mayor ever, and the joke candidate who ran because he had the same surname as her came in third on the strength of alphabetical ballot proximity. #Toronto #TOpoli

Who the hell is Chow Braeden??

Everyone I voted for in the Toronto election won, and my new councillor (Diana Chan McNally) is probably the only person ever elected to city council who is currently renting a basement apartment. I am very excited to see her replace Gord Perks!

Voter turnout may be the big story in Mayor Chow’s re-election. Turnout is up 250K compared to 2023 and Chow’s popular vote is also up 250K. Compared to 2023, she’s held onto her base downtown and in central Scarborough, but added north Etobicoke, parts of North York & completely swept Scarborough.

I'm going to try to do this cleanly. Today's right wing governments are networked to each other. Those networks are well-documented. You can read about them in books. Following the elections in one node of that network is good practice for understanding the U.S. node.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

This, plus Canadian conservatives mimic American conservatives, so it's important to know what the former will be borrowing from the latter.

I would *LOVE* to not need to have strong opinions about a dozen US Senators or be able to name more SCOTUS justices than I can SCC ones. But the head of the US executive branch currently has very strong opinions about the continuing existence of my country, so

I remember always finding it weird that my Christmas nostalgia was for 70s-style tackiness despite growing up in the 80s and 90s, then realised that it was because regular people (particularly working parents with better things to do) don't or can't keep up with cutting edge fashion.

Darryl Mott@gamerstavernshow.com

That's the bit everyone gets wrong. They try to look like the 80s/90s and they pick whatever was in fashion or what was on TV show sets at that time. Most people lag about a decade behind whatever the furniture and decor trends are because they only buy stuff when they need to replace them.

good morning fellow Toronto's please don't let us be mayored by a guy named Brad Bradford. A dud with a dangerous desire for power who would destroy this city from within. Olivia Chow is not a perfect mayor, but she's a damn sight better than anyone else on the ballot, and we can't backslide now.

This is not a "you didn't KNOW?" post because I truly envy and respect anyone unaware of Linehan's output BUT he's been EXTREMELY racist for years now. When President Trump first said the phrase “transgender for everyone," he meant it as an insult, a sign of how extreme his political opponents had become. Now, though, some LGBTQ artists, activists and allies are transforming the president’s oft-used words into a rallying cry.
