Dolly Parton did all the good she could, for all the people she could, for as long as ever she could. From her legendary songwriting to the Imagination Library—which sent 1 million books a month to children across the country—she was the best of America. Dolly, we'll miss your great heart.

I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

This wheel is to the boy squirrel the way that the football is to Charlie Brown and it still makes me laugh every time he tries to use it only to be immediately spun.

🤣🤣🤣 Gotta love Murderbot's adversarial relationship with its own risk assessment module: "I ran that through risk assessment and it produced the equivalent of a shrug sigil. Shrug sigil right back at you, you piece of shit." #Murderbot

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue

Again, speaking generally: There's what a reporter knows, and what the lawyers will let you publish. Those are two different things. Is there more, much more, that will stay in the reporter's head forever, but that didn't get past legal review? That's a great question and I'll let you think on it.

Word has spread on the long tailed tit grapevine that I run a very good bird café. This family group (likely brothers & sisters from a 2025 brood) came to dine. I’m passing on these 5 adorable tiny birbs (colloquial name: flying teaspoons) to you bc we all need a bit of joy rn🪶:

In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties. The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized. Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.

Please, I am begging you, do not tell AI to translate for you. Do not just use a translate button on languages you can't read. Please ask a human being to help you. Machine translations are often close enough on a sentence level but that is NOT good enough for anything you take seriously.

Courtney Milan@courtneymilan.com

"Use AI for translations" Hey, who was doing translations before? How did we train AI to do translations? Who was the author of the translations that were fed into AI? Ah, I see, another "ethical" use.
