I've seen so many people online using the government shutdown as an opportunity to demonize people who receive SNAP benefits, WIC and any kind of government assistance. Here's the thing: I agree with those people. We need to end the WHITE welfare state BECAUSE welfare works. A thread:

Trump represents the greatest threat to free speech in the history of the United States. But I’ve had so much success financially complaining about woke censorship that I’m going to keep fucking that chicken.

The Ethicist | Our gardener was roughed up by ICE and can no longer bend over. We're obviously going to fire him, but my husband thinks if we wait a few months, we can declare him as a depreciated asset on our taxes, and then fire him after we file. Should we try it?

The Drug Enforcement Agency says almost none of America's fentanyl comes from Canada. But Truth Social user @bloodandsoil1488 says thousands of pounds cross the border each week. For busy presidents of the United States, it can be hard to know who to trust.

I think it's now possible to make a poli-sci course that equips one for modern political analysis better than most classic theory and has a syllabus sourced entirely from random internet posts. Text 1. Wilhoit's Law, born as part of a 2018 blog comment crookedtimber.org/2018/03/21/l...

This man is my hero because he’s a member of the United States Air Force and is standing by his #Oath to the #Constitution! I’m hoping that since he has taken the lead others will follow because this is what a true American Soldier looks like! Remember your Oath to the Constitution

I just made the best refried beans ever, with pintos, bacon fat, and home made hot pepper - garlic paste. No picture because it still just looks like mashed beans. Glorious, glorious mashed beans. #cooking

At this juncture I’d like to point out: * we’re on the brink of a golden age of medical healing * there’s enough money in the world to solve every problem in the world * a united approach could stop the climate crisis But a small group of sociopaths seeking personal power are going to throw it away.

Our capitalist society sees profit as the point of human society, and profit is most harmed by cost, and cost is most caused by labor of humans, so inevitably this will be a society that increasingly sees humans as a problem to eliminate, which is why that is how it is training its machines now.

There is only one thing that will stop fascists: physically preventing them from getting to their victims. No other activity will have any effect. Once they have begun to persecute innocent people, their desire for blood will make them keep going for as long as they are physically able to. /12

Something that's been clear to me for some time is that a lot of progressive advocacy and politics has overindexed on finding just the right combination of words to say while ignoring the fact that no media ecosystem exists where people might actually hear you say them. New from @mmfa.bsky.social

We have got to figure out a way to break the cycle of “humans find ways to prevent bad things from happening, bad things stop happening for so long that humans forget they’re possible and remove the mechanisms of prevention, and bad things start happening again”

🧵This country has a deep history of resisting & rejecting oppression. It isn’t often taught or acknowledged. We need to know. We need to learn from our elders, ancestors, & political forebears. Now. A thread about that. I will inevitably miss many examples; pls reply or QT with additions.

A nonprofit partnership in Maine has canceled $1.9 million in medical debt for 1,500 people. Mainers for Working Families (MFWF) teamed up with Undue Medical Debt to buy the debts, which were worth up to $1.8 million, for a fraction of the cost.

Not being sarcastic or glib, but what is the point of destruction like this? What does Musk gain from doing this? Is it really as shallow an explanation as “I want to just destroy everything.” But … for what? I get the attack on USAID, or the FAA, or DOJ. But what does this … do?

I think a real big problem with government spending is that "debt" is something extremely different for poor people than it is for rich people. For poor people, debt is something you do out of desperation; it's a threat that you need to be constantly wary of because if you fuck up it'll destroy you.
