Like, is the biggest threat to cybersecurity the mere existence of LLMs, or is it the existence of companies like OpenAI with basically unlimited resources and an incentive to create large security incidents essentially as a marketing stunt?

The actual math in this paper is over the heads of non-mathematicians but the core argument is pretty easy to follow: AI theorem-prover formalizations can't actually be trusted to faithfully be the same argument as the natural-language paper they come attached to arxiv.org/abs/2610.081...

The language in coverage of these things is so obnoxious. If I engineering, polished, and deployed a script that was designed to hack people, and left it running overnight, and it hacked people.. ...That means I hacked people. Headline should be "Google wages cyber warfare on [companies]"

A problem we have now is that we let the so-called tech industry, which is primarily an unholy union between advertising and consumer electronics, dictate the terms of the conversation about technology in such ways that the natural inclination is now to discount technology.

yeah so we need to talk about how "screentime is bad for kids" is not really true, but "short form video on algorithm-based platforms is bad for everyone" IS true

incredibly concerning that not one but TWO close friends, both progressive-lib-left, whom I've known for 15+ years both independently and separately said they believe Israel was behind 9/11 in the last two days the information space out there is BAD, folks. get your friends off tiktok.

Sorry chatbot lovers but the waning of Boolean operators in most search functions on websites has made my life actively worse. You can't find anything, you can only have things suggested to you.

oh god this is also why reading LLM generated code is *exhausting*; you can infer a subtext channel in human code which comprseses a LOT, but you have to actually *read every fucking letter* of LLM code because all submetatext is corrupt.

so machine generated code strips the *metasubtext*, information shadows cast by the letters-of-the-code itself that communicates *about itself* to other human maintainers and readers

remember when a bunch of software companies made a big deal about "returning to the office," citing worsening quality of work? and then none of their products got any better? and then some of them started to vibe code everything? and their products got even worse??

"Converting PDFs to presentation slides" is such a telling example because so much of what LLMs are being used for seems to be labor that doesn't need to be done at all. It's just renting a space heater in someone else's building to accomplish nothing at all.

Consulting giant Accenture is trying to figure out how to stop non-technical workers from blowing through companies’ AI token budget on trivial tasks like converting PDFs to presentation slides, according to leaked audio obtained by 404 Media. Welcome to the Tokenpocalypse.

"We're shipping so much more code with AI!" "Good, stable code?" "Oh heavens no. No no no. not at all. We couldn't possibly"

"The AI engineering impact data shows that output is up. It also shows that the work required to ensure that output is safe, correct, and maintainable has not decreased. It has increased substantially." Aye, if only any of us had been saying this from day one 🤡 www.faros.ai/blog/ai-acce...

You used to be able to google the time of the sunset, and Google would give you the exact time right on top every single time. Thankfully, with artificial intelligence, you can now ask Google what time the sun will set and it will conveniently tell you "I don't know."

It's fantastic how after all this commotion, the EU replaceable battery mandate ended up with an explicit exemption for devices which retain at least 80% capacity after 1000 charge cycles, so the only real effect for the average person is to extend the planned obsolescence cycle from 2 years to 3.

I have ideas for comicbooks, music albums, epic fantasy novels, and Tears of the Kingdom Challenge Videos. What I lack is time and financial security to pursue these ideas. You can ALWAYS identify a soulless salesman by whether or not they think the bottleneck of creativity is having a good idea.

ross spent over a decade failing to get a cartoon idea funded until recently. and now that the pilot has aired on youtube, it’s gotten millions views and i’ve seen countless fanart of the cute cat girl the new ideas are always there; you cheap fuckers just wanna avoid paying for them

Computer science is the art of preventing computers from doing things. Big NO notation is used to formally specify how many things you have prevented the computer from doing.

So much career advice boils down to "be more neurotypical," which isn't great advice unless you happen to be neurotypical. If you've been "unable to follow advice" for years, & all you've felt is shame at not hacking it, I invite you to ponder whether the advice is just not right for you. #ADHData
