Wile E. Coyote, despaired, takes a bucket of paint and a brush and paints a beautiful two-bedroom house on a mountainside. He paints a beautiful coyote wife in the window, and two adorable coyote kids running around in the yard. He tries to enter this new coyote life, but it is inaccessible to him

The international chess Federation banned trans women from playing women's chess. CHESS. It's not about fairness. The fairness argument is intended to radicalize people into more violent forms of transphobia.

That rock skipping, yes tossing stones across a pond or river, is a gender segregated sport, should tell you something about how gendered sports are not about fairness of physical ability, and is instead about the male ego

Neat webperf investigation thread, & one that has me eager to look at if this is happening within my purview as well

I went down a #Meta #Facebook Pixel performance rabbit hole after seeing the same #INP regression across unrelated websites. Meta’s JS time during clicks increased by 77.5% between April and August (Trend column) So I dug through months of historic fbevents.js versions. A thread 👇

How cool! I've paddled the Bronx River in NYC. A river otter was spotted in the Bronx River for the first time in over 100 years! Because otters need clean water and abundant fish to thrive, this sighting hints at the waterway’s ecological recovery from being treated as a dumping ground.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

The UK countryside is full of interdimensional portals. You just have to know where to look. I've decided to make a thread here of some of the best ones I've found on walks. 1. JRR Tolkien's Psychedelic Lime Kiln.

"Believe in the me that believes in you" was bars in 08. Its a fucking holy anthemic prayer right now because it acknowledges that belief in yourself is hard if not impossible "Oh you don't believe in yourself, that's fine, believe in me and that'll carry us both" BARRSSSSS

Decided to wander out for a Wing Wednesday deal, & I succeeded in convincing someone to try Fernet & Malort on their own tab. This feels like some sort of bar persuasion accomplishment.

The best stock photo sources these days are very specific people who take photos of very specific things. This guy takes pictures of trains. All trains all the time. Only trains. Do I have to worry that one of these photos is AI? Nope. He would never disrespect a real train in that way.

The funny thing about chrome shoving a 4gb LLM on all devices is that when I interviewed for Google back in 2019 one of the interview sessions was all about how you'd deploy updates to 4 billion android devices, consider how many users are on slow internet connections or with unreliable connectivity

I say it every year - if you're even the least bit interested or involved in web performance, this is THE place to be every year. It's the one trip I prioritize my travel budget for. The talks are awesome, but the hallway track is unbeatable. The concentration of experts in one place is insane.
